Nice interview! Thanks for sharing.I love Emancipation! Especially disc 2

Prince also favored Disc 2! Excerpt taken from UK Hello, December 1996: Q - Do you have a favourite song? A - Not really, but I like the second CD best. I could say "The Holy River" -- right in the middle after 5 romantic numbers -- is my favourite, but then I also like "Let's have a baby." Just before our wedding, Mayte spent a few days away from our home so I made a lot of changes to our house -- especially in our bedroom, where I placed a crib. It was beautiful. Then, on our wedding night, Mayte was still wearing her long white dress when I brought her into the room and played her "Let's have a baby" for the first time. She couldn't stop crying -- it was an unforgettable moment. Prince says this about his wife from the same article: Q - Do you think your wife has had a positive influence on your life? A - Yes, certainly. She is the woman of my life, my best friend. We were made to be together and all the ingredients were there to unite us. Our fathers have the same name and our mother's names are similar. My family's name was Nelson and hers was Nells. We're definitely made for each other. With her, I've learnt what faith is and I no longer worry. Link - https://sites.google.com/...ember-1996

The love songs on Disc 2 are some of the most romantic and beautiful I've heard! I made a mix of them with some of my other favorites of his of the 90's.That's so lovely what he said about Mayte. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, pinkcashmere23. I agree, it is sweet and sad. The lyrics are so telling....makes me wonder if she is singing about Prince, Amiir or both.

I couldn't find much info about the song online. The YT description states Tommy Lee and another individual worked on the single. I would have taken notice if I had heard it played on a radio station.....might have been a minor hit!

They both appeared to be excited about Amiir! This RS interview, published November 28, 1996 (while it's apparent the discussion occurred late in Mayte's pregnancy, it seems odd the decision was made to publish it considering the circumstances), quotes the following:

Of course, no such scenario would be complete without someone in the role of the indulgent girlfriend. Cast in that spot is prince’s gorgeous and very pregnant wife, Mayte, 22. Wearing a short black dress with white trim, the word baby stitched across her chest in white above an arrow pointing to her stomach, Mayte sits quietly and smiles, shaking her head fondly at prince’s uncontrolled enthusiasm.

O(+>’s marriage to Mayte and the impending birth of their child were two of the important inspirations for Emancipation. It’s no coincidence that what prince describes as his “divorce” from Warner Bros. Has occurred right around the time of his marriage and Mayte’s pregnancy. “I don’t believe in coincidence,” he says flatly.

Along with covers of such smoochy ballads as “Betcha by Golly, Wow” and the Delphonics’ “La-La- Means I Love You,” Emancipation is filled with what prince sheepishly calls “sentimental stuff.” Discussing how he has been affected by the prospect of fatherhood, he says, “You’ll definitely hear it in my music.” For the song “Sex in the Summer,” which was originally titled “Conception,” prince sampled his unborn baby’s heartbeat. “Of course, that ’s a tempo,” he says. “The nothing baby set the groove for this song. Mayte always smiles when she hears it.”

O(+> may have used his baby’s ultrasound as a rhythm sample, but he and Mayte did not ask to know which sex their child is. “It doesn’t matter, “ prince says. “We all have the male and female with us, anyway. We’ll be happy with whatever God chooses to give us.” And just as prince has no intention of once again taking the name Prince - the people around him refer to him simply as “the Artist” - he says, “The baby will name itself.”

As he prepares to preview a song called “Let’s Have a Baby,” prince turns to Mayte and says, “You’re gonna start crying - you better leave.” Then he explains to me, “I got my house fixed up and put a crib in it. Then I played this song for her, and she started crying. She had never seen my house with a crib in it before.” “Let’s have a baby,” the lyrics run. “What are we living for?/Let’s make love....”

He points to a portrait of Mayte that is framed in gold. “I can’t wait for my baby to look up and see Mayte’s eyes,” he says, his voice filled with wonder. “Look at those eyes. That’s the first thing the baby is going to see in this world.”

Also, Spike Lee (SL) interviewed Prince (TA) in May 1997 in which he spoke briefly about his love for Mayte, the hope for more children and Amiir. Excerpts as follows:

SL: You said earlier that you have been in love with Mayte for one thousand years. Can you elaborate on that?

TA: I am a firm believer in reincarnation for people who either have more work to do or have so much debt to pay back that they have to be here. I hope for me it is the former, and my work was finding Mayte and having a child, which we will continue on until there are several here.

SL: Would you like to comment on how the media attempted to make a circus out of that particular episode?

TA: What people have to realize is that if one has a firm belief in God and the spirit, then one does not make statements that are negative and untrue. I would have been lying to myself and the spirit of the child. I have a very thick skin. I take everything that comes and let it bounce right off of me because I know the time will come when nobody will be able to speak falsely....

For me, the song is so personal....he really laid bare his feelings and exposed a vulnerability that I would never imagine he would experience. Inner deamons, empty relationships, drowning sorrows, the "coldness" of life, his joy (he cried) when Mayte accepted his proposal. The lyrics say it all.

Let's go down 2 the holy river
If we drown then we'll be delivered
U can still see the picture upon the wall
One eye staring at nothing at all
The other one trying 2 focus through all your tears
U can try and try but there's nothin' 2 hide
U can't run from yourself and what's inside
U got 2 find the answers 2 the questions that U most fear

So over and over U ask your soul
Why'd U come down 2 a world so cold?
And the voice inside says 2night the truth will be told

U surrounded yourself with all the wrong faces
Spending your time in all the wrong places
Puttin' your faith in things that only make U cry
People say they love U when they wanna help
But how can they when U can't help yourself?
The more they say they love U, the more U just wanna die
So here we go again, the self analysis
Have another glass of Port and uh. forget this
The band's playin' at the club 2night and they're bound 2 groove

There U are, U think U're high
U can't ask yourself cuz U'd only lie
If U had a dollar 4 every time U tried

U can't call nobody cuz they'll tell U straight up
Come and make love when U really hate 'em
Relationships based on the physical are over and done
They're over and done (They're over and done)
U'd rather have fun
With only one, with only one
Only one... one (one)

And then it hit 'cha like a fist on a wall
Who gave U life when there was none at all?
Who gave the sun permission 2 rise up everyday? (Ooh, oh yes)
Let me tell it (Go'n)
If U ask God 2 love U longer
Every breath U take will make U stronger
Keepin' U happy (happy) and proud 2 call His name (Go'n and say it)
Jesus (Jesus)

And over and over U ask your soul
Why'd U come down 2 a world so cold?
And the voice inside said 2night the truth will be told
And this time I was listening, hear me

Let's go down 2 the holy river
If we drown then we'll be delivered (Yes we will)
If we don't then we'll never see the light (No)
If U die before U try
U'll have 2 come back and face the light (Oh yes)
When U believe it, U got a good reason 2 cry (Oh my, my)

So I went on down 2 the holy river
I called my girl and told her I had something 2 give her
I asked her 2 marry me and she said yes, I cried
Oh, that night I drowned in her tears and mine
And. and instead of a glass of sorrow and wine
Looking back y'all, I don't miss nothing except the time
And when I see that picture upon the wall
The one eye staring at nothing at all
My eyes trying 2 focus but these are much different tears
Oh, yes they are
Let's go down 2 the holy river {x3}

Let's go down 2 the holy river {x3}

Uh-oh, here she come
She got them gold hot pants on again
Yeah man
I wanna talk, but I don't know her
She's a peach

She was dark - she was tan
She made me glad 2 be a man
She was young - she was smart
Just one glance and she stole my heart
The kinda girl U wanna teach
She's a peach

Summertime, feelin' fine
Gettin' wild all that's on my mind
Here she come dressed in red
Get her done is all that's in my head
Her hot pants can't hide her cheeks
She's a peach

Hey

She was pure, every ounce
I was sure when her titties bounced
Every way she's a winner
Turn a gay preacher 2 a sinner
No one U want your mama meet
She's a peach

(Look at that girl playin' hard 2 get)

I would die if I kissed her
I would try, but I'm last on her list
She's so cool and I'm so ugly
I'd be a fool 2 think she could love me
This kinda girl's always outta reach
She's a peach

Hey
She's a peach
Hey

The most heart breaking piece of work product resulting from Prince and Mayte's union....Comeback - 1998 The Truth 2cpccxy.jpg Walking up the stairs Just the afternoon Sweet wind blew Not a moment 2 soon (Hoo) I cry when I realized That sweet wind was U Spirits come and spirits go Some stick around 4 the aftershow Don't have 2 say I miss U (don't have 2 say I miss U) Cause I think U already know If U ever lose someone Dear 2 U Never say the words their gone They'll come back, yeah They'll come back, yeah yeah They'll come back Tears go here Tears go here Tears go here Tears go here

NACN, both "Comeback" and "Until U're In My Arms Again" are the most heart breaking pieces of work product resulting from Prince and Mayte's union. And those are the two known and published songs about Amiir. Per Mayte's book, there are more songs about this subject in the Vault.

.

Until U're In My Arms Again

All of my life I've never wanted anyone like I wanted U
Every night I said a prayer 2 God and His angels
I'm sure they knew
The many tears that I'd have 2 cry
If I ever had 2 leave your side

CHORUS:
Until U're in my arms again
I know this pain will never end
This broken heart will never mend
Until U're in my arms again

Every mornin' when I awaken, I imagine U sleepin' in your bed
Wrong or right the reason U're taken from my embrace
Well, it's never said
Cuz every day that U don't return
Is another day that my heart just yearns and yearns
That's why…

CHORUS

If life remains a mystery
Then there's no reason 2 the rhyme
And U, U'll never know what U mean 2 me till U're mine, all mine

Until U're in my arms again {x3}

(CHORUS)
Until U're, until U're, until U're in my arms again!
No, ain't never gonna end
Never gonna mend
Until U're back, right back in my arms again

I'll never see like others see
(I know that U'll come back 2 me)
I know U're gonna come right back 2 me (Come on back 2 me)
And this time U will never leave my arms again
(Never leave my arms again)

Until U're in my arms again {x3}
Come on back, baby
Come on back {x2}

Until U're in my arms again {x2}

Excited is an understatement. They were thrilled to become parents. Based on what Mayte wrote in her book, prince was thrilled, ecstatic, so-in-love, over-the-moon-happy about becoming a father. He somehow convinced Mayte's doctor to sell him the heart monitor. He had people build a playground at PP/their Galpin Road home.

.

People can say what they want about Mayte's book, but the details that she shares about prince's behavior during her pregnancy and while their son was alive are quite possibly the most heartwarming, magnificent, and flattering descriptions that anyone could ever write about the man. He was an absolute rockstar of a father and husband during Amiir's short life, and it's because of her book that the world knows how great of a father he was and how great of a husband he could be in his best moments.

I loved them as a couple. I often wonder if they might've stayed together longer had he not gotten mixed up with the JW's.

I feel his religious enthusiasm at that time saved his life.
I don’t blame that.
I think it had to do with the losses in his union w/Mayte.
She said gersekf in an interview that he believed that because of those losses, it “wasn’t meant to be”.
I think at the later stages of Mani and after Mani, he regretted splitting with Mayte.
