Just listened to it and all I can say is...... WOW...simply....smooth & beautiful. Classy jazz music. I can actually here strong hints of UTCM on the second track ironically called "Don't Play with Love"

The bass on "Darkness" is near precsion and the horns are on point. The piano playing is of course the focus and highlight of this primarily upbeat and breezy recording.

The opening bars to "Lonely" sound so much like father like son on piano. For a split second I am thinking of Venus De Milo....not exactly but this song could definitely segue into it.

Definitely evokes the classic 50-60's upbeat jazzy riffs of a Charlie Parker. Listening to this album IMO one can't help but realize where P discovered his love for Miles & isnpiration with Madhouse and the Hornz.

I suggest everyone give an open listen as this is a big part of where the bloodline for the creative genuis we all love was born.

Sharon, beautiful work on the production and packagong of this masterpiece!!! What a gifted and talented family you're a part of it. You did your pops proud.

Also kudos to the Paisley Team on your top notch work!!!

Go Grammys...it would be nice to see Mr. John L. Nelson posthumously receive the well deserved recognition he so longed for on and of his own accord.

As most of us have said, Prince's music was the soundtrack to many of our lives.....its nice to hear from where the inspiration of that life changing artistry all began......

I look forward to hearing this. Thanks for posting, Militant.

I never want to see that artwork again. Ever.

It's also on Apple Music.

Understandable, though. In the time its taken to put out a barely-bootleg version of MOONBEAM LEVELS, they've completed a whole production for an unknown relative. If that impresses you...then that impresses you.

This thread is about the music.

If you want to complain about anyone who was involved with it, take it elsewhere.

Well, I'm not the most patient of folks, but I'd rather wait for whoever is working on the material in the Vault to do a great job on Prince's precious music than have them rush out material haphazardly and then regret it later.

It's not quite 2 years since Prince passed, and there is probably a vast quantity of music, which is likely to entail a great deal of work. It is probably a labor of love for those with the responsibility too, so I am guessing they are no doubt taking utmost care with it.

This is after all a marathon and not a sprint, and the most important thing to me is not that my selfish wishes for more music are met, but that they do Prince proud by making good decisions, and by releasing his music in the best available quality, and in a manner that would hopefully please him.

If they need to take time to get it right, so be it. I can wait. None of us are getting any younger, but, if I pass before most of it sees the light of day, I guess it's tough titty. wink

It's not as though we haven't got something to look forward to. Somebody reputable on here posted that either Parade or 1999 deluxe remaster may be on the cards this year, and someone I had never heard of ( though I think supposedly in an official capacity) was also quoted as saying there may be some 'mind blowing' new music later in the year, so hopefully there may be either a re-release or new release of some description for us oldies to love on, and hopefully some new fans to discover.

,

Anyway, back on topic, as for John L Nelson's posthumous release, I haven’t heard any of the music yet, but I can have absolutely no issue whatsoever with Sharon looking to share her Dad’s music with us. In fact, I think that it’s a good thing for her to honor her father this way. I'd like to think that Prince would approve hopefully.

Let’s hope that she is as eager and motivated to honor Prince accordingly too. I have to confess to slight misgivings about that, but hopefully she will prove me wonderfully wrong.

My understanding from Sharon's interview here and statements elsewhere is that all the heirs, including Sharon, currently have no authority to release any Prince music whatsoever.

Sharon seemed very interested in the prospect of a new incarnation of the NPGMC serving vault music directly to fans, but does not have the means to do so even if all the heirs jointly agreed.

Which sounds to me like a great reason to oppose the actions of Comerica and the people they hired who have no clue as to how to release his music and run his music business. If all heirs jointly agree then they should be able to release music as NPG, however until those heirs who's hands are tied by bad agreements which they entered into, I guess it will have to be waited out. It looks like Sharon's is teaching them a lesson with the John L. Nelson project release, showing them that she knows what she's doing and can produce, market and release music, which Comerica seems to be having difficulty doing with Prince music.

Look Northstar employee Comerica has not put out any Prince music yet and if SNJ keep running to court every other day they never will.

What part of taxes have to be paid, estate value has to be determined, and the many Lonnie lawsuits resolved before the assets cannot be fully monitized,

Wrong. My "shade" is being directed at you. Sorry, I feel obligated after that "without him no one would be on here" comment. Utterly facile.
