interesting hmmm she says she'll release more songs written by her and prince
so that'll be something to watch out for. perhaps a few more tracks we have
never heard about before.

ultimately, what i want most of all -and what she'll probably not share- is the
original Anna Waiting track. that would be great to finally hear.

The song is ass but the phone calls are wonderful.

He was a taskmaster, that's for sure.

Anna played us "Anna Waiting" when we visited her at her house late last year, right after we did this interview with her.

It's absolutely amazing. Longer than Vicki, different lyrics, different breakdown. Much more personal. To me, it has more meaning since it's actually about a real relationship and not a fictional one like Vicki.

There's extra Prince harmony vocals on the chorus, too.

Second verse, for example starts with "All is well in Lonely Town..."

Very cool. I love the phone conversation. Her face reminds me of Vanity during the closeups. I can't remember if he credited her on the Carmen album, but I wonder if it will be a probem for her to release these things with regards to the estate.

damn it... now I have to be at work a few more hours... I am a little sad over that phone call... at the end... I have heard him say "I love you" on songs and on movies but not in a real conversation.

I just did not care for the music, I just, it just wasn't there

Prince is like 'you all have to work really hard before I go further with this'

At the time he had Carmen Electra, Anna Fantastic and Robin Power & the Uptown Dames... I'm missing one other

Not that crazy about the song but I love that she shared some of their phone conversations. It added a personal touch.

I am of two minds. On the one hand, it's very special to be able to hear Prince conversing with one of his proteges. On the other hand, it kinda creepy that the call was recorded, probably without his knowledge or consent. That said, his voice was tender, but he was still cracking the whip!! His voice here reminds me of his telephone interview with the Detroit DJ, Mojo. It's also interesting to hear him discuss his sway with Warner Bros. Thanks for sharing.

Good point about the phone conversation. It's interesting to hear a private call between them but you're probably right that he didn't know that he was being recorded.I think he sounded really sweet though.

I like how controlling Prince was. It was no saying no to him whatsoever.biggrin But it shows how good of a taskmaster he was. He expected the same dedication to anything like he did his craft.biggrin

This was very special for me to gear. Thank you, Anna.
I do also wonder if he knew he was being recorded.
I feel he doesn’t mind now though it being shared, and there was nothing to hide.
Thank you, thank you.

By the way, P had to be in charge. He had way too much at stake and he knew it. He didn’t have a second f to waste either.
But he was nice about it. He asked people how they felt about it. He gave them choice.

There are moments she's giving off a Vanity vibe in that video.

For the record, Anna texted me before she uploaded it and wasn't sure if she should include the phone conversation.

I told her that she should - it gives context. Jill Jones agreed and said the same.

Prince did know the call was being recorded, by the way. The idea was - back when they did the song - that they might use bits of the phone calls in "Behind The Scenes" promotional stuff, and perhaps the music video they intended to make. Not too dissimilar to this - except the project never went any further than this.

So, please don't take it as an invasion of privacy or anything like that. Prince did know, and he recorded many of his own calls himself too. And even despite that, Anna was concerned about whether it was the right thing to do and consulted with me and Jill for our thoughts.

She's a lovely person and I'm so happy she's put this out there. It's part of her story.

One of the aspects I appreciate about the video is that it acts as an artifact or time capsule, and that wouldn't be possible without the inclusion of the calls. It captures a moment in time and a tantalising glimpse of a project that never was.

That's cool. I hope it reaches all of us sometime. I remember she was supposed to have played part of it on some Dutch show, but I wasn't ever able to hear it for some reason.

Carmennwasnt around then. He didn’t meet Carmen until 1991. Anna was around in the late 80s and if I’m not mistaken before Prince started dating Kim Basinger.

The song and her dancing aren’t so good but I absolutely love the phone conversation with Prince. So sweet. I hope the other music she’s planning to release is a little better. Pretty girl.
