Why do you think he checked out many years ago?

I believe he checked out psychologically. I can not elaborate on any physical illness that he may have had (as purported on the board) but we can ascertain that the mind of an addict is fraught with mental anguish and torture. The very things that the brain normally rewards as "good behavior" are practically non existent in the mind of an addict. This is a daily fight between what was once normal and what is now the new norm . It is especially true for one who has been addicted for several years, as the longer you're addicted, the more a certain region of the brain is less likely to make decisions deemed "healthy".

There was nothing healthy about Prince in the last few years. What we saw was a mirage and that was sold to us who were on the outside looking in. He lived his life in a bubble for a very long time and his use of addictive substances enhanced this defense mechanism. What you and I would consider a problem that has a solution , does not equal to: Many years of drug addiction.

What is surprising is that most people do not want to believe that whether Prince was dabbling in the art of pain management for a legitimate illness/disease, an unhealthy psychological profile from addiction was developing because of mutated cells. The guilt and shame of having to keep the facade going( I am Prince) vs. the truth , became a brutal tug-o-war in the brain. I would even venture to say that the urge to feed the addiction, overrode pain management, if in fact that existed. Re: Days after Moline. Nothing about those last days seemed normal to me.

Now, you would have to ask yourself whether or not you believe that Prince's brain functioned any different from any other person who has been addicted to varied amounts of an addictive substance for many years. The answer is probably no. Prince's brain is not unique in that regard and so "checking out", is not seen as a threat or abnormal, living life without medicating, is abnormal. Lying is normal. Hence the daily struggle that wears and tears on the mind and the body.

"Checking out", whether it is because of a terminal illness or addiction, doesn't seem so much of a bad thing when it is fully understood.

Why cannot you not accept that his checking out had little to do with addiction. Has something

changed that makes it impossible for people to not be weened from drugs?

Anyone can go into rehab to get help with drugs. If you had an illness that has no cure or will become debilitating no one can help you. Even if he had crippling chronic pain with no cure it means no relief without drugs.

Prince was in the hospital. He could have left that hospital in comfort and gone to any rehab in the world. He was sitting on 40 million in cash he could have went to a rehab facility in a medical transport by airplane if he wanted to with no pain or illness. Yet he went home to wait for more test that would have been useless for him to use if he was going into a rehab the next day.

How can you accept that he was a drug addict for years without accepting all of the health issues that come along with it and chronic pain?

I was not thinking of that comment but when she said he told her - he came here to do. Prince was a grown man and in 2014 he was in his fifties. He was not a young man just starting out. He had lived a whole lot of life. He gifted the world with so much.

.

It seems to me Prince felt he needed to go or he would still be here. He is allowed to be who he wanted to be and that inlcudes his convictions and faith and feelings of things being demonic or not.

Prince is allowed to be who he was and not the image he built of who as a fan may have wanted him to be. Since his death so much has been learned about Prince and more than ever I think he had a public life, private life, and secret life. I admire the fact he kept things for himself and to himself. I feel the same as about his choice to exit earth on his terms. My respect and admiration for him as a human being has grown so much since his transition and I do not blame anyone for it nor his faith.

There is something uneasy when people want to make another's faith a downfall. I believe Prince's faith is what gave him the strength throughout his life.

.

I just look at his "friends" and associates since his transition in my opinion and he needed his faith to deal with all of them; not saying anything negative just they are alot to deal with. ALOT. I am glad he had his faith and his secret life to sustain him. He was human. Much love for him always.

Who exactly do you think are the enablers? the Weltons? KJ? Judith HIll? Meron ? his bodyguards? I reckon that most of the supposed enablers were folks who were too new to read the signs or too new to know how to broach the subject. To me, the only true enablers were probably that last three to see him alive. The older associates he pushed away or keep in their little compartmentalized boxes, but I imagine it was hard to trust many of 80's associates

since so many of them seem to love being interviewed about Prince and his behavior (and aren't bound to NDA"s) ... Even Sheila, if she knew or suspected about his addiction, would have exposed him publically in an attempt to shame him into treatment. he could threaten litigation but once the cat is out of the bag the damage is done. I don't imagine any judge would side for Prince if old associates were calling him out publically for illegally procuring drugs especially if it were true. And slander is hard to prove. It is also possible Prince was ashamed and a bit afraid of what old associates would think.

Sheila is a smart and strong woman and Prince knew he could not pull the wool over her eyes. Just my opinion, but Prince seemed to keep his enablers around, and the people who genuinely loved him and cared about him, he pushed away. Not a good way to live your life, imo.

KJ is the first that comes to mind. He was around Prince more than anyone else, I would say.

I think that Sheila may have known, but lets say she was 100% certain of Prince's abuse with pain meds; I don't think she would have exposed him publicly. I don't see Sheila being that type of person.

I agree Clover. I just don't see Sheila exposing him publicly. I can see her bugging him & being relentless about getting some help. She's known him since 70's & would've known anything public would crush him. I wish Prince would've seen how stars can admit drug problem, get treatment & then go back to their careers. Chaka Khan did it right after his death & is back to her career now.

If chronic pain management was the issue, I wish he would've called her. According to her book, she had same issue & after ending up flat on her back & with a collapsed lung from acupuncture, she maybe could have shared some advice. I don't know.... Maybe I'm overreaching???

Sheila said that if Prince did not push her away, she could have helped him; or she would have least tried to. If anyone could have given Prince some tough love, it would have been Sheila.

It has been discussed before but according to our drug experts. Prince was some super human who could consume and abuse large quanties of pain meds for 20 years with no effect on his health. Apparently, this would not be possible. Nevermind that any organ problem would call for an immediate withdrawal of all pain meds thus causing extreme illness due to sudden withdrawals.

But nevermind such things are not possible as Prince was super human and could not have any other aliments. Don't you know if he had any organ problem it was the responsibility of Tyka and Kirk to put on their doctor hats and assist.
