Wendy & Lisa and Go West

The other day I was listening to Aces and Kings the best of Go West. I was reading the CD booklet and it says Track 17 Healing Hands produced by Wendy & Lisa. The song is from 1993. Never knew they had worked together.

She worked with GM at those Trojan Soul sessions. The video leaked out recently (it was new to me, maybe it was out before), and near the end, you get to see Wendy working on an unknown track.

I sure wish those songs would come out sometime.

The track she did guitar on was actually called "Wendy Melvoin's song" - a cool funky track, but sadly instrumental as George did not finish the project. Other guest artists on the album are were Elton John, Seal and Janet Jackson.

Shame it didn't get finished as the tracks are really good.

That's a reference stand-in title, not an actual song title, of course. I've been the video in full. It's safe to say there was not going to be a song called "Wendy Melvoin's Song" on a George Michael album.

I know about the project as a whole. It was a terrific concept for an album, especially by someone who, and people forget this, loved and was greatly influenced by R&B and soul music. Some songs were more done than others. And the unfinished ones may or may not have had lyrics written or partially completed, etc. It was certainly in various states of being done or not done. I do believe that much of it is salvageable for a release later on. What they have to do is get those folk who were there in on it and help put it all together.

As long as they don't treat it the way they did MJ's Xscape album and have these producers totally redo a song in their own style.

It's such an intriguing moment in the video. She kind of struggles (and curses in the process if memory serves) with a chord and trying to get to it. She notes how awkward it is to play and execute.

Their first album Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking? produced by Wendy is my favorite album of 2005.

I think I had an EP of theirs. Also, I took a kid to see Ashlee Simpson back in the day, and The Like was one of the two opening acts.

As someone who is supposedly good with chords I would say she struggles with the chords throughout the video.

The wooh is on the one!
