It's great news, this album may be light-hearted pop but it's a lovely collection!

It's a real damn pity that Martika didn't record Open Book at all at the time. I long hoped that she had and that it had remained unreleased, but after Prince passed she revealed the executive producers had vetoed it. Damn idiots! Even if they wouldn't put it on the album, they could have allowed for some studio time in order to record vocals for use on a future collection!

It would have been such a nice addition to this rerelease.

Why in the world they would vetoe 'Open Book' and leave some of the other songs on there is beyond me. I consider 'Open Book' a classic. Unless the producers felt it wouldn't work without Prince's falsetto?

She said even she didn't know, she now assumes they felt 4 Prince songs was enough, but she was very young and didn't question the decision (though she was disappointed). They probably didn't want too many ballads, IDK.

That is great news! I hope she does some press behind it.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Apollonia's solo album was re-released this year as a 2 disc edition. The 1st disc is the original album plus 2 extra songs; Victima and Theses boots are made for walking. The 2nd disc contains dance mixes and re-mixes of some of her songs. You can buy it on Amazon. Great Xmas present.

eek falloff

If there's one album I didn't think would ever be reprinted on physical format, it was that one!

.

To think that you have people here saying there's no market for vault releases, cryin' out that if Prince records don't sell by the millions there won't ever be another Prince record, and that there's no market for rereleases of any of Prince's own side projects... Meanwhile, in the real world, super obscure records by the likes of André Cymone, Wendy & Lisa or Apollonia get rereleased with bonus tracks...

I think that Record Companies under-estimate the popularity of Prince related artists and how much money they could potentially make by issuing deluxe/re-mastered editions of their albums. Apollonia's deluxe CD is well worth it's very reasonable price. I hope Vanity's albums are next.

The market is probably quite limited, probably comparable to what Eye Records makes (1500 copies for a set, maybe twice that much given that an official release can get more publicity and touch a larger audience in the R&B market with acts such as Morris or Jesse, who may be of interest to funk and electrofunk fans beyond the mere Prince fanbase), but if Eye can profit from 1500, labels can too.

.

Regarding Prince's "own" side-projects, there's probably a much wider potential because, if well promoted, a Jill Jones or Madhouse reissue could get some press coverage as "a Prince album under a moniker". If Prince hadn't been so uninterested in his back catalogue and (in the case of the WB owned side projects) at odds with his former label, we'd have seen those rereleases long ago... Now we must wait for the estate to be sorted out.
