I actually remember thinking it was almost becoming normal for Prince to have a cowriter on a song by that point. With Fink, John L., etc having cowriting credits from 1984 (regularly) onward, it just seemed normal to be when I saw Carol Davis, or Susannah on there. I always paid attention to those songs more, just to see if I could hear something different in them than any other Prince-solo-penned tune.

in my opinion he probably generously gave songwriting credits.. rather than those people actually contributing to the songs

I think you're right, but I also suggest that it's 50/50. Sometimes it was for the sake of making sure someone was paid (like possibly John L.), whereas others had a direct input like Fink on "Dirty Mind".

These are great covers! It reminds me of the performances at the Prince tribute show at Carnegie Hall in NYC. The show made me appreciate Prince even more. Sigh.... how I miss him.

Respectfully, your opinion or mine are irrelevant. What matters is research and proof, case by case. There's pretty detailed information on most those songs and how they came to life.

Lovejunky

I was sceptical but opened my mind and was pleasantly suprised

NO...not Prince, nor was anyone trying to be him...

Each artist put their own spin and it worked IMO..

Stand Out for me was Darren Hayes singing I wish U heaven...

Gave me chills I could hear Darrens Love for Prince

The Kiss cover was also suprisingly good...really interesting approach

Bambi was ok..but makes you realise just HOW Great Prince was on Guitar,

the Only one I didnt really dig was I would DIe 4 U

nope....that song can never be done by anyone but Prince...

overall as a Tribute I think everyone did a great job in keeping this out of the

Karaoke Kompetition

Yes, Prince took a story that Susannah told him and turned into a song. Do you honestly think she had anything to do with the actual creation of the music and lyrics. He was nice and made it so she could get some money.

At least they are not making any money off of it unlike some out there.

Are you referring to The Revolution and NPG live show? Otherwise I’m not aware of anyone making money off of Prince covers.

Are the shows free? Are they donating the money to charity.
