The last thing we need is another fuckin' tribute album. I tolerated everyone and their dogs singing "Purple Rain" through 2016, but damn it - stop. I could count on two hands with fingers left over the covers that are worth anything.

Are you referring to The Revolution and NPG live show? Otherwise I’m not aware of anyone making money off of Prince covers.

First, don't school me on respect. Unnecessary, really. You're right, I don't have to listen, and I'm not interested. However, darlin', you're in a public forum where people cuss n' discuss a variety of topics. You posted, I replied.

Prince tribute albums are just lame. There's never been a good one, much less a great one. There are maybe three names on that list that anyone would know.

It's the Glee virus all over again. People used to get so hyped up about Glee, but I thought - why does anyone wanna hear these kids on a glorified Mickey Mouse Club sing Madonna, Britney, Prince or whoever's songs??? I'd rather hear Madonna, Britney, or Prince.

Even if they sold this record, who's making money? All the artists on there, plus production costs? They wouldn't even break even, much less profit from it. But I'm not worried about them making money - I just don't care to hear anyone resing a song by an artist like Prince. Prince is a legend for a reason - he sang his shit, not a bunch of re-hashers.

Who's making money? His estate. They still need to get mechanical license rights, I assume.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Trivial on this. Although I wouldn't be against the idea of a Prince tribute album if they had more interesting artists on it. For example, Bruce Springsteen did a brilliant cover of Purple Rain after Prince died and he did the impossible by making the song his own. Not as good as the original but still really good. If there was to be a tribute album with Springsteen's version of Purple Rain and D'Angelo's cover of Sometimes it Snows in April, then I'd be interested.

Funkenberry interviewed Elisa and Cassie:

https://soundcloud.com/dr...ompilation

Edit: I must say after listening to this podcast I got the feeling Funkenberry isn’t to crazy about this album. Didn’t really say much and at times the interview with Elisa seems awkward. I still don’t get why they’re making such a big deal over no one making money off this or no ones egos being fed. It’s like Elisa is throwing shade at others who I guess she thinks is cashing in off his death. I’d love to know who.

Who is cashing in??--all of them. Cassie said some awesome things about Prince's deep cuts and not just playing his biggest hits. She also seems a bit bitter about people exploiting his most famous hits for self-gain and ignoring his deep cuts. I literally said an "audible Amen" after she said that...LOL. However, it seems like they could have dug a bit deeper with this songs they choose. Most of them were the bigger hits..

Funny story Elisa said on the Funkenberry podcast.
Long time ago Prince called her, she wasn’t home so he got the answering machine.

He left a ‘message’ and just recently she found it.
He was using a funny voice and was banging the phone on the table or something.
She used the fragment on this tribute album at the end of ‘Starfish and Coffee’.

Personally I am not very fond of any covers of Prince songs but I could appreciate these ones.
They’re definately worth a listen.

I really like their version of Starfish and Coffee and I think the ending was a nice touch.I also like that Elisa put a bit of Anna Stesia in towards the end.Overall,I think the album was well done and I appreciate them sharing it with us.
