I hope the org will ask that people not publish photos from the book, just as you rigidly insisted that no excerpts be published from M1's book. It's not fair to folks who have not yet received their copies. Nor is it fair to the authors.

Sorry, but I did not rigidly insist the no excerpts be published from M1's book. That was a different moderator.

These photos though are out on the web. By Afshin Shahidi. I did not scan these from my book. Afshin has posted a few of these on the Huffington Post and FB

as well as lemoncrush19 Post Ur Prince Pictures Part 13 thread

When I said, "you," I didn't mean you personally. I meant the collective you, meaning the Org as a website. In fact, it would be nice if a copyright infringement disclaimer would be placed on the OP of all of the book discussion threads, just as it was done for M1's book. Just a thought...

Katz is the next one we need

Also Brian Ach. Though he says he has thousands of photos but they’re not his to share. What does he mean? Who owns them then? EDIT: I see in the comments Brian says Prince held all the copyrights to the photos he took on tour. Man I hope the Estate works with Brian to release them someday. https://www.dpreview.com/...-brian-ach
What is your favorite memory from working with Prince? Before the last show I photographed, I left a handwritten note for Prince on the table in his dressing room. I told him how I'd never have believed that the kid in Ohio watching Prince perform 'Purple Rain' at the 1985 American Music Awards on TV would some day be living his dream photographing Prince on tour. I thanked him for the opportunity. Prince didn't say anything to me before the show or after the show, so I was worried that he didn't get the note. But at 4am as the night was winding down, he put his arm around me and said, "Thanks for your note; that put me right to go on stage tonight. You make art. These aren't photos; it's art." That was one of the best things anyone has ever said to me. As a photographer I don't get feedback or validation very often, so to hear that from one of my heroes was huge for me. Prince never shared most of the photos I took of him during this tour. By the third show, he said that he wanted to keep the photos for himself rather than send them out on Wire Image. At the end of the tour he told me that the photos were art and needed to be shared, so he picked a few from each show to send to Wire Image. By then the tour was already over so the photos weren't seen by many people, and Prince kept the rest in his personal collection. A number of news agencies have called me asking if I have unpublished photos of Prince. I do - I have tens of thousands of them. But they aren't mine to share.

His live shots give such a fluid expression. I love the angles

I noticed that one photos from the 2009 LotusFlow3r period, that I actually thought was photographed by Mike Ruiz. Who did a smaller amount of photos

but photographer Randee St. Nicholas became the main photographer during the Planet Earth period. 2006-2009 and at the end we got the 21 Nights photo book premiered the Gansvoort Hotel NYC 10.10.2008

I appreciate it more now of course. But the photos were very posed and polished. But good. But not like Afshin Shahidi photos/book.

Why the continued inclusion of other photographers on this thread about Afshin's New York Times Bestselling book? Why not start a separate thread on Prince's photographers through the years??

Continued inclusion? There are other photos by Randee here?

Well I'm replying to rogifan's post of a book of photos from 2007-2011. The question stumped me until I remembered that we got a book of photos by who I assume was the main photographer at the time, Randee. This is not a presentation of including Randees 21 Nights photos.

There also seems to be an overlap and even certain photos I assumed were Randees or Riuz that belonged to Afshin.

So I wonder if Prince just wanted to work with a variety of photographers or if it was more about who was available when or could travel with him? I am curious how many other photos Afshin has that Prince approved of. I wonder if there would be enough to do a second book?

Afshin has said that he has thousands of images and, to answer your question, he says that, depending on the success of this book, he might publish another book of "B-sides." I would definitely like to see more.

yeah, he has had a lot of different photographers in the 90s and 2000s. It could be just about availability. Afshin took a lot of photos in the 2009 period too, the ones where Prince looked almost alien. So manybe he just focused on Randee for the 02 resident shows.

I suspect he has 100s more, since we have so many that were already released prior to Prince's passing.

This photo is not in the book, but Afshin Shahidi must have taken it, because there are other angle photos of the ladies in the book. This might have been from an aftershow party.

I think he just established he and Manuela are friends and for him that is part of Prince he knew at the time. I would wonder what Afshin felt about all the Tamar drama - he was around for that- he did not provide that- those bad times were part of Prince's life too. See. people no matter how nice we are all the same. We all have that seedy underbelly- for me I would not have any of his romantic women in the book NONE especially one he divorced and locked out the house and tore it down but hey . . . THAT was part of his life too. Just saying.

I didn't like the photos of M2 either...but P married her. Like it or not, that places her, along with M1, in a unique class among Prince's women. Also, remember, he worked with Prince for over 20 years, meaning he was there during both marriages; however, during the M1 years, he was a cinematographer, not a still photographer.

Also, there is at least one photo of Prince and Tamar in the book in which they are walking, I think, hand-in-hand. Lastly, it is important to note that all of the photos included had received Prince's green light; otherwise, they would have been destroyed and, thus, not considered for inclusion in Prince: A Private View.

As I've said previously, it is hopeful that any subsequent books will not include his ex-wife. pray beg There are no photos after 2009, so perhaps he will pick up there next time, well after that marriage ended. Also, he does not include Super Bowl photos. Surely, he must have been shooting that day. I hope he will soon reveal some of those, as well.

The photos are undeniably beautiful; they just invoke unpleasant memories for many in the Purple Family. I guess Vashtix raised the question of Tamar because she and Prince worked so closely during the 3121 era.

When you say, "Prince took up with Tamar," are you suggesting something other than a working relationship between the two? Tamar denies those rumors, saying that Prince was like "an uncle" to her.

Speaking of the razed house, I wonder if Afshin has any high resolution full frontal shots of the exterior of Prince's purple house. I would love to see one or more of those.

His camp? Who is that?

Watch this video. Tamar breaks down when talking about a gift Prince gave her (around Christmas). Sounds touchy feely to me (even if there might not have been a touch involved). This is also the interview where she says he was like an uncle to her. Kind of weird to say that about someone you had an intimate relationship with. :-|

Prince held Stevie Wonder's hand--was he fucking him as well? Yes, Prince was not naturally touchy feely but he might have made exceptions. Jill's cool but she also hasn't been much in the picture for the last 30 yearss. If I recall, you believe a lot of what Cat Glover says, correct? Cat says that P and her didn't engage in any hanky panky whilst they were working together (I am not talking about later) ... Well this picture proves (according to your theory) that Cat must have been lying and P was having three ways during the SOTT/Lovesexy tours... Well, see what I am doing here. I am questioning the fact that certain folk's words are taken as gospel. I do think though that song Fury might be prince addressing Manuela's accusations that he and Tamar were hooking up and Prince is trying to convince her that that wasn't the case. I say this because I believe Tamar was called to testify during the divorce. A wife being suspicious of Prince isn't hard to believe but that still doesn't mean she was correct. Tamar and Prince are the only ones who know for sure what happened..

You are going to have a field day with this one... (I am sure the twins, who also denied involvement with P, wouldn't appreciate the assumptions however.

Okay, cool. But I'm not taking that for gospel truth though lol Tamar has said it wasn't like that and she's got nothing to gain by denying.

Which..sorry i don't believe that lol especially after jill jones talked about prince giving albums instead of flowers theory lol
