Watching it right now. They're talking to her a quick bit about Prince and her album. She's singing TGL and some new song which samples an old song. The first lines are from the national anthem, which brings to mind Prince's "America".

Now it sounds like she's singing the whole fucking national anthem to a funk song sample. She's kneeling during part of the song.

She's a gee-tar player now, too. Then she gets back on timbales ends the song, and does her solo-with-the-elbow-thing and knocks over her cymbal routine. Everyone's "OMG GIRL THAT'S AMAZING!"

I"m more...

^^Spoken like people who have no clue of the importance of protest and civil disobedience. This country came about through protest and has been made better by protest, activism and holding people accountable for the ideals they claim to uphold but only pay lip service to.

Flags and anthems are empty symbols, devoid of meaning if we do not uphold the principals they are supposed to stand for rather than sticking our heads in the sand and pretending not to see what's happening.

I came up during the sixties and seventies just like Sheila, so this is nothing to clutch pearls over IMO. Im more concerned that people lack the knowlege to put things in historical context.

It's disrespectful if one is uneducated on what an upside down flag means. It means someone is in distress, and I would imagine a vast majority of black Americans have felt some sort of distress in this country for a very, very long time.

Do you drink piss in your coffee, or does that shitass disposition come naturally in life? Maybe a little vitriol with your Vermicelli for lunch?

I equate kneeling with praying so I hope it is hip because we need prayer.

Trivial posted how much he hated it during the performance, throwaway review. Let's ask Oprah what she really thought.

Sheila said in advance the performance was going to be political and why. The band was tight. The stage business made sense, when they kneeled there was a video with Kaeperneck behind them. The video included interactive words with the music, some by Obama. The upside down flag was explained as a sign of America's distress. She played drums and guitar and said what she wanted to say. Let's crucify her, damn. disbelief

I don’t want to get into a debate about the knee thing but sometimes things celebrities do just seem like empty gestures. I appreciate that when Prince was still with us he was trying to help minorities help themselves and channel their energy into becoming a force for good in their communities:

http://www.latimes.com/en...story.html
"After the Trayvon Martin verdict I was talking to Prince and he said, 'You know, every time people see a young black man wearing a hoodie, they think, he's a thug. But if they see a young white guy wearing a hoodie they think, oh that might be Mark Zuckerberg. That might be a dot-com billionaire.'"

"I said, 'Well, yeah, Prince that's true but that's because of racism.' And he said, 'No, it's because we have not produced enough black Mark Zuckerbergs. That's on us. That's on us. To deal with what we're not doing to get our young people prepared to be a part of this new information economy.'"

http://money.cnn.com/2016...index.html
"He really believed that young people could change the world," said Jones, who is a CNN commentator.

Prince was a teen when his career got started, one of the reasons why he was so passionate about helping the younger generation find success.

"He believed in the Black Lives Matter kids so much -- and he had a dream for them," Jones said. "He said, 'I hope that they become an economic force. I hope that they use their genius to start businesses.'"

I thought it was great.

.

I only wondered why they had the keyboard parts pre-taped, Sheila usually doesn't go for backing tracks and she has great keys players.

I don't have issues w/ the kneeling or whatever. I've not stood up during a national anthem or pledged allegiance in almost a decade. I get it, and I'm a full supporter of it.

It's just her riding a dead rock star's coattails. The symbol & butterfly thing, her constantly on the "I was engaged to Prince". Yes well so was Susannah, Mayte, Manuella and maybe another one or two.

She is not stealing anything from Prince. She is constantly asked to remark on Prince, not the other way around. Bringing other women in shows how shallow you are about this for no reason except to wag away.

You haven't or you wouldn't have made that comment. You could not be more wrong if you tried about my stance on the national anthem or pledging allegiance to some stupid flag.

Exactly....sister wives are not the topic.

Sheila did not say anything about her relationship with Prince until she was asked and it's pretty silly to think that they are going to stop asking her about him anytime soon. lol
