Honeymoon Express ~ Wendy & Lisa

This song was written/recorded while they were still with Prince & the Revolution.

Possibly a lot of the songs from their 1987 album were.

I get so loney, when I think of you

I get the feeling our love is never new

We watched each other going many different ways

Come with me

let's meet at the station

Where we first started

Then we made love, life in the world

Seems like we are living on rainbows

Take a ride

on the Honeymoon Express

Take a ride

on the Honeymoon Express

What's the matter with your life
Is poverty bringing U down?
Is the mailman jerking U 'round?
Did he put your million dollar check
In someone else's box?
Tell me, what's the matter with your world

I think Prince influenced a lot of the tracks on the first album, perhaps even co-wrote. As you said, it was written while they were still in the Revolution.

Hi my peeps! I posted this for Wendy and Lisa on the anniversary of their first record. Hope you enjoy! 2764.png❤️

Honeymoon Express...

I’ve been reminded that Honeym...oon Express, the song I co-wrote with my sister Wendy has an anniversary this month! Wendy and I wrote it months before the release of the W&L debut record, in fact this was a track that neither Wendy, Lisa or myself would have known that in only a few months down the road would find its way onto the first W&L record.

The Galpin studio was so fertile during this time in music history, in fact, Prince and I had finished Crystall Ball a few weeks prior to Wendy and I going in to record. Prince was on his way to Los Angeles when I asked him if Wendy, Lisa and myself could use the studio while he was away. Prince was excited for us to use the studio and called Susan Rogers to ask if she'd engineer the session for us. Wendy started basic tracking first. She started the track with the guitar intro, then the bass line! This is where her infamous bass playing would prove to Prince what an extraordinarily bad ass bass player Wendy was and IS!

Prince asked me to pick him up at the MN airport a few days later and right away he asked if I had a tape. After the guitar intro to the song is Wendy’s bass line. I had my eyes on Prince while he listened. The smile on Prince’s face when the bass line came in was huge!!!!! Then hearing Lisa’s keyboard arrangements...then all of the vocals. Watching Prince listen to Honeymoon Express was beautiful. He had a special look on his face that, to anyone who knew him, would think whatever he was hearing was something funky, intensely musical and swirling in it’s own orbit. Moreover, it was usually his music that he experienced that way. But this was W&L!!! I sang on this track, co/wrote the track, but, don't get me wrong, this wasn't about me, this was Wendy and Lisa and in some ways Prince’s love for these two brilliant musicians who started their solo musical careers with Honeymoon Express at the Galpin house in Chanhassen MN.

Love and Kindness,

Susannah

I think he played guitar on something actually I believe he did work with them on the 2nd album 1988 like he did with BrownMark, but Bobby Z actually co-wrote 5 songs, and Susannah co-wrote this one.

Yeas, but it isn't that straight forward. Lots of ideas came out of jam sessions and rehearsals, and if the tracks were written while they were still in The Rev, then who knows who first came up with the ideas.

Yeah, but they most likely would have credited him.

He did play guitar on 1 or 2 songs on the 2nd album

Songs like Mountains and Power Fantastic were 'other' songs already composed by Lisa (and Wendy) outside of Prince before he heard them.

I think Prince wrote words/melody and added arrangements for M and PF.

Yes after he heard what Lisa did,

Like Power Fantastic used to be Carousel

I mean she had songs created already that he hadn't heard

I suspect guys in the Time probably did too

Anyway, I think it's just as likely that Prince influenced/co-wrote songs on The first couple of W&L albums.

So Prince not being involved makes it a better album? Anyway - you don't know that he wasn't involved. He probably was. As you admitted many of the songs were written during the Revolution era.

No,
I don't mind if Prince was involved in it.
I never said this one was better or not.

If you have factual information I welcome it

But about THIS song, not the album.

.

I didn't admit anything, I said it could have been
This is the only one from the album that I have direct information

Why does it always have to turn into this

I'm just appreciating this 1 song on this thread

.

Org member Latin has started a thread that discusses the whole album, called: Article-Testing a Dream Wendy & Lisa's Debut album. http://prince.org/msg/5/446345/

.
This thread is just about this 1 song.

Im a big fan of W&L's solo work but I'd love to have heard Prince sing this one, it'd have fit right in with that Dream Factory vibe. There's a few on their first solo album I feel like that about, a pity really.

I rather not....it would not make them have a unique sound of their own..they wanted to branch out as well be crative in their own way after the dismemberment of The Revolution

I would appreciate it if when y'all guys claim that Prince played on this or co-composed that it was backed-up with facts or substantial information. When not, it's just gossip confusing people's minds, and that's just not cool. Thx.
