hmmmmm

I don't think he can 'pick up the baton' in connection to Prince

But he can just be the artist he's wanted to be

What baton? The fight for artist rights? Outside of that, I love you Andre, you fine as hell, but uh...Prince is Prince, there shall be no other.

I like Andre, I really do. I just don't like that 'picking up the baton' No one could ever touch/duplicate that 1978-1989 run alone, not to mention the full scope of his career.

I saw a vid where Andre and the NPG were doing Pop Life, and Andre was skipping around the stage... and I'm thinking 'he copied that from Prince in a concert.' The moves the way he skipped and swayed his arms. I was just think, 'Please Andre don't do this'

I like Andre, but I don't want to see him attempting to "pick up the baton" and try to continue what Prince started. There is only one Prince.I want to see Andre being himself and focusing on his own music.

If picking up baton means impersonating Prince then no I'm not for that.
I took "picking up the baton" more as like in a relay, he is now gonna "run His
Leg" with NPG. Make new music and enjoy the old.

Same old org. Always inventing reasons to throw low key shade at certain people.....SMFH rolleyes

If you'd bother to actually read the fucking article, there is nothing to mis-interpret unless you just want to be negative toward Andre. He explains exactly what HE means by picking up the baton, not what you guys want to pretend he means! He doesn't say a damn thing about imitating Prince in any way, so I don't know where that came from or why anybody would imply that based on what was said in the interview? wacky

"I think now I might do that funk album, as there are very few artists who are expanding the sound – it feels like there’s space to make a mark. I feel like since Prince’s passing I’m picking up the baton, the spirit we had as kids was always to be different, and do things that no-one else was doing, and I want to keep that going.”

Y'all can't figure this statement out? Really? lol

If people would simply read what is written and stop trying to put words into Andre's mouth that he never said, these things wouldn't have to be explained.

Stop projecting your own thoughts onto him.....simple.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I am in agreement with you that is why I said I'm in favor of him moving forward
With NPG. Doesn't seem odd at all and I enjoyed the article. I would love him to
Break out his 70's notebook and throw down some retro Andre!!!

I disagree, he can be his own band leader.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what Andre said. I knew what he meant even before I read the full quote. Keep on keepin' on, Andre.

“The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I think Andre is the one who knew Prince the best when they were growing up. Thanks for sharing that, Latin!

felt the same initially..but having read it in context I am hoping he does a funk album. Sadly Andre -IMHO - is fairly indistinctive. His last album was really well intentioned & positioned with a strong message BUT the songs just didn't stand out. There will never be another Prince!..the baton will never be picked up again.

I think Andres choices have led him to a more well rounded life. Where he seems to enjoy other parts of life fully. I will choose to see that as a part of his greatness/sucessfulness in relation to his hits. Prince put in all in one place and I don't think I would advise that to anyone, and especially not to amuse me musically.

Of course he can. He was his own band leader in the 80s after Prince
