I am old enough.

I am not hung up with her skin color. I'm amazed that we can't admit it was done with purpose.

It has to be the same for all. Katy Perry goes Geisha and it's appropiation.

The Black Power raised fist - "By any means neccessary" is not something I am comfortable with.

Making up? It's right in front of you. One she's going for the hippie thing (all bright, Blonde wig, peace sign on her head and the other Urban brick wall, darker skin tone and big black power fist over her head. )

1. There is nothing to admit when your opinion isn't supported by any evidence whatsoever. Your assumption is not holy writ.

How is it appropriation? What part of her mom is African American/Creole don't you understand??? eek Why would it bother you if she identifies with both her AA AND Latino heritage? eek

You cannot possibly be anywhere near old enough because if you were you would understand that the point of protest isn't about making people who support the status quo comfortable. If you had your way I guess we'd still be on the back of the bus and fighting in Vietnam with all women barefoot and pregnant.

I was a kid in the 70's. So I'm not versed on each protest.

I have no interest in your hyper blowing this up. Acting like I want to go back to the 60's.

My point is that it's an intentioanal imagery that I don't agree with. That's all.

I have zero problem with you disagreeing. Myself and others are just correcting your mis-statements, that's all.

I am Puerto Rican. Without doing ancestry dot.com, if she's "creole" I am not stretching it to say she also has bloodlines.

She changed her appearance to look more african american to reach out to that movement.

Jesus Christ on a biscuit! Where did you ever hear anything about Sheila being Puerto Rican? eek

Sheila is Mexican and Black Creole therefore she is NOT culturally appropriating anything. We had a meeting and she was grandfathered in decades ago, lol

How does having her hair jet black, bone straight and four feet long make her look more "African American?" whofarted

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheila_E.

Born in Oakland, California, Sheila E. is the daughter of Juanita Gardere, a dairy factory worker, and percussionist Pete Escovedo, with whom she frequently performs. Her mother is Creole, African American, and her father is of Mexican origin.

JC yourself. I said I was Puerto Rican.

She's obviously darker in the pick. It's not a natural tan. She's on FB all the time as light skinned as ever.

Why would she make herself up purposely darker in a protest song?

She lives in CA I am sure that is a natural tan. Serveral of us have told you she rolls with Africa Americans because that is what she grew up with. I guess she has been appropriating the whole of her life just for this moment and time. Lol

I corrected it as soon as I saw it.

Third: So she did a whole photo shoot and happened to be darker than she is in protest shoot? She's not portraying any "hippie vibe" here. A raised fist is a symbol black power protest.

And what is a peace sign??? Do tell, lol

Y'all kill me seeing only what you want to see because you'd rather die and go to hell than be mistaken about something. Heaven forbid you should learn something.

As I said and evidently need to repeat, THERE WERE MANY DIFFERENT PROTEST GOING ON DURING THAT ERA!

Civil rights/black power movement

Anti-war protest

Women's Liberation/feminism

Sheila is old enough to remember all of this....are you?

I cannot imagine why you have such a hangup about her skin tone. She could have spent the weekend at the beach for all you know. Why would that bother you?

These young whippersnappers dont know jack.

She’s got the Morticia Addams loom going which isn’t flattering at all. And really if she wanted to send a message she should have sent it to her candidate Hillary Clinton who lost to the biggest embarrassment on the face of the earth, Donald Trump. America doesn’t need a message from her. But hey I know free country, free speech. I just won’t be listening to it. SheilaEdrummer (@SheilaEdrummer) 8/7/17, 8:33 PM NEWS ALERT! Yep. Nothing wrong with not knowing but how can people hope to understand when they are so closed minded?

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with what Sheila is representing. Next somebody will call her a Communist, I guess! lol

Well I don’t like her shoes, so there. SERIOUSLY? I’m not the biggest Shelia fan her but who cares if she changes her wig or the lighting is different in photos? Good God. Not everything has to be about race/ethnicity. It’s a different look, so what?
.
And as Babynoz said.. there were many different protests going on in the 60's… Yes, I was there.
.
It doesn’t matter, whether civil rights, anti war, women’s rights we were fighting for equality and peace.
.
And I hate to be the one to break this to you… but we still have to fight for the same things. Today... The voting rights act is under attack, we’re in a 17 year old war (and an idiot president who is taunting NK) and women still don’t earn the same as men who do the same job.
.
All this and some of you care about Shelia’s wig. sheeesh.
.
Peace, DD55

There is nothing wrong with this cover version. She is top notch funk drummer with a pretty good band. I do not think a video was needed for it but so be it.

Well I never said there was anything wrong with the song/cover.

I said the look of the video doesn't match the song.

She could be A #1 drummer of all time, it still doesn't match the song.
The cover is great, the video is great, but the 2 together are not a good match.

This is not a good look for Sheila. She's very beautiful, but this look does nothing for her. Not sure if this is a wig or the work of a flat iron, but I'd really like to see the flat iron go the way of the dodo bird. Most women that use a flat iron regularly overdo it and most do not suit such straight hair.

I've watched a few videos of hers last night she's had that long flat iron look for a while now, it just the added 60s accessories that's all different. And she kinda looks like she's really working out but then she's always looked in shape so I'm not sure what all that different, maybe it is just lighting. She still looks like Natalie to me in that first picture, it's the eyes.

Most of us ladies like changing our look from time to time, especially entertainers. I often wonder if males are as catty toward other dudes when they change looks?

I think the long hair looks nice on her and it makes her look younger! She is a Sagittarius with Leo sub influence. Sagittarians like change and changing their style/appearance.
