She changes up her look from time to time. I really wonder what the hell her polictics has to do with not listening to her music. More than half the CD is covers.

I saw this and had to look twice, to be sure it was her. I am not a fan of the "resist" movement and this could be considered "cultural appropiation" by those same people.

Us Puerto Ricans assuredly have african bloodlines, but here she's trying to hard.

In her book she said growing up in Oakland around black people she had to pick an ethnic idenity to keep from getting beaten up. So she rolled with the black people. I do not think she is appropriating anything she grew up around black people seemed more close to her mom's people who are from New Orleans then her Mexican dad. It is called survial.

She said her dad did not even speak Spanish around the kids and she did not relate to Mexican culture until she got a little holder.

If you read her book, she has always had an identity more closer to people of African descent in America. She didn't even identity as Mexican. She connected more to her Creole mother.

Sheila E and her brother Juan even though growing up with the Latin Jazz via their father, have always played with people like George Duke, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Ritchie, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, etc

And she was rocking Afro's in the 70s, even though that is not a determiner of ethnicity.

LOL, on the one hand it's mildly interesting to hear about various associates from time to time, so I cant judge too hard. On the other hand I gotta wonder who has the time to micro-analyze all of these people's every move and utterance? Whether it's Sheila, M1, M2, or any of the other sister wives, jumpoffs, friends with benefits or has been musicians after all this time? Generally speaking, not rogi in particular.

The NPG and the Revolution can at least be said to be doing something musically productive even though some of the Rev members have an issue with diarreah of the mouth. Morris Day and even Sheila are also doing music when she's not selling ugly merch.

When people do not understand the references they should be humble enough to ASK rather than make erroneous assumptions.

@rogi.....this IS what many artists did during the era she is representing. They didn't sit back and wait for lying politicians to fix things, they spoke out and put pressure on them.

THAT IS WHY THE PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO CHANGE THINGS BACK THEN. Being close to 60, Sheila remembers that and is trying to help bring that mentality back at a time when she feels it's needed.
