Susan Rogers Q&A

I'm going to attend the 3rd Annual Paisley Midwest Party this Saturday for the Susan Rogers Q&A.

I'm hyped to hear her speak and have the opportunity to ask a question or two.

Yeah, I know, should be in "Fan Gatherings", but, nobody sees that forum. Besides, this post is because I'm hyped to meet Susan, and Susan is an associate, so... wink

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

I don't know yet. I'm "vault" obsessed like any of us but I also have a background in Recording Engineering and have a lot of nerdy curiosities in that respect as well.

Ask about the vault and how much have they archived, etc.

Susan Rogers was fantastic tonight, the Q&A was great. She was just wonderful and so gracious in sharing her Prince experience. The Q&A lasted almost 3 hours followed by another hour or two of one on one meet & greet, autographs and pictures. How great is that?

No recording, livestreaming, etc was allowed as she was going from memory and considered this a conversation with those in attendence. She doesn't want the discussion to become a part of the official story of Prince as she didn't have the benefit of fact checking details of what was discussed.

That said, I took a lot of notes (because I don't trust my own faulty memory) of anything I found particularly interesting. Some of them I will share, maybe tomorrow. I want to take some time to consider what I do and don't share in respect to her wishes regarding this particular Q&A.

That said, as I won't be quoting her, and anything I say is third person, there's no reason I can't share some of what she talked about that I think other fans will be interested in.

In another thread I've already shared the info she gave about the new leak of Wally:

-the circulating version is NOT from 12/29/1986

-it was recorded after 1987, she thinks it's from 1991

-it has similar lyrics to the original, erased version

-it has different instruments and a different tone than the original

Again, I'll look over my notes, and give it some thought, and should have more to say tomorrow.

Overall, it was my birthday, Wally & the different mix of La, La, La, He, He, Hee (one of my FAVS) were leaked in the morning with the Susan Rogers Q&A in the evening... Happy Birthday to ME!!!

I'm going to have to think about this. Due to the controversy surrounding Wally and the info she shared about it which I've already posted, I'm feeling like sharing even less.

If my posts about Wally had not already been quoted by others I would be editing the posts to remove any mention of her comments on the subject. As it is, it's too late.

That said, there are a few little things I still want to share, but, I'm going to avoid posting anything I think might be controversial or spark heated debates.

I am sorry for that and I find it ashame that there cannot be discussions where people have different thoughts, ideas, etc. without it becoming an all out battle.

Thanks for what you did share.

There's a couple interesting (and hilarious to me) things that I just have to share:

Someone asked about "hidden messages" in songs. She said there is a Mazarati track (she did NOT say which one) that Prince played uncredited guitar on. She said at the end of his guitar part he spoke into the guitar pickup "This is not Mazarati. This is Prince." I love this!! I don't know if it's possible to pick this out listening to the album or not, but if anybody finds this PLEASE share with the rest of us.

She told another story of a time in the studio where another band (I don't think she said who) had left behind some tapes. Prince was jokingly trying to get her to load up the tape so he could add a bass part. (Of course, she could not do this as it would be a violation of her profession and of another's art.) He said he wanted to add bass and for her to write on the tracksheet "Bass U shoulda played". Of course they did NOT do this, but it's hilarious to me to imagine this conversation.

There's more I really wanted to share, but for now, I'm going to leave it at this. I'm sorry I shared what she said about Wally. I figured with the leak now circulating amongst us all and the debate in regards to it's origin that the information would help clarify, but, that didn't go as planned.

All in all, I had a great time. After Dez in 2015, Steve Parke last year and Susan this year, I gotta recommend anybody able to travel to little 'ol Winchester, KY might want to do so next year. I can't wait to see who The Paisley 5 & Dime gets to speak next.
