Good interview. She says some sensitive and insightful things about him... I like how she explains that most Prince girlfriends were musicians or music oriented...because he was fitting them into his workaholic lifestyle (that statement kind of dispels the svengali image.). She seems to have no ill will.

She has a sweetness and positivity to her - but is extremely honest and forthcoming as well.
Interesting that she says Prince studied her face (I've heard others say that too), and would look for something of himself in the women he was with. This seems to be mostly a physical (looks) thing.
But I feel he would let you be around him if he felt you had other assets as well, such as talent, the ability to be private about him (I also like how she says that now that he's not here (I will add in my own words, in the same form he was), it's okay to talk about him, I agree with that.)

Be my mirror, be like me...

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

She does not have any ill will toward him but Devin had a carreer so she was not dependent upon for anything and they fact that they stayed in touch and still hung out until she got married says a lot about her and him.

Her book is really good as it is not all about Prince and she manages to discuss their relationship/friendship without throwing dirt and giving out too much personal information. I suspect they spend hours talking and we are not privy to all of those conversations. In addtion, she said a certain percentage of the book profits will go to Yes We Can Code.

Interesting how all these people are now telling us what Prince wrote and why. Nice lady though; I did not know she was around before and during the casting of Purple Rain. She was around when Apples got the part for the movie she laid out how Prince picked Apples and suprised she was aroundn in the 90s - she discussed Mayte as if she knew her too.

I find that interesting.

About him studying her face...she mentions that she also has a beauty mark on her face, just like he did. I wonder if that was something he liked or was attracted to. I'm beginning to see similarities sometimes in the girls he spent time with.

I want to revive this thread because I've been listening to PinkCashmere a lot and I often confuse Devin and Anna (basically same time frame, or one preceding the other a bit?)
Anyway, I believe he wrote PC for Anna...

Did he write a song for Devin?
She says "Adore"...anyone agree with that?
Otherwise, did she ever have a song written for her?

Anna came a bit later (around 87/88).

As far as I know Adore was not written for Devin De Vasquez . At least not to my knowledge. I know who it was written for but I don´t want to open a can of worms here. wink

Prince once mentioned who it was written for.

Yes, I think the general consensus knows who Adore is written for.
By the way, I recently happened upon the 2010 BET Awards video of him listening to Alicia Keys singing it. He's really quite emotional, eyes closed probably remembering...then tearing up. He wasn't being "on" for anyone.

It occurred to me though, I know of no song written for Devin. Maybe there's something in the vault. smile

Yeah, it's not a big secret by any means that the general consensus sees it as being written for Denise.
I would however like to know myself when and where Prince confirmed this. It's not as though anyone's going to be really surprised. 🙂💜

Because I don´t have the source to back it up. I read it was about Vanity but I can´t find the source even though I ´ve tried to look it up.
