Lord I wonder when was the last time Prince even spoke to him.

What does it matter? When was the last time Mayte spoke to him or saw him? Her book has been quite well received by fans. When was the last time many of his alleged 'friends' saw him, yet have given long interviews or told stories?

Even if they hadn't spoken in 35 years, that does not negate his role in Prince's early career, his interactions, and experience with him, nor what he saw, heard, talked about, did, etc. Owen's been around for a minute and in the industry a long time. His experience with Prince was probably just as random as it was meant-to-be.

Plenty of people have a lot to say about Mrs. Mayte someone has devoted an entire Youtube channel to debunking her foolishness. Prince pretended not to remember his name when being interviewed back in 1999 by Larry King. That should tell you something. Someone else riding the purple gravy train. He helped him when he was 19 and Prince moved on to bigger and better things.

I do not see what he could add now. Maybe he should go back to auctioning stuff online.

Its not just about prince. I imagine he will just be reiterating what he has already said.

I was in college for 5 years. I had a different roommate each year except for one. I can remember three of teh roommates names. I can't remember the fourth. I lived with this girlfor a full school year, and I don't remember her name. (I remember things about her howerver). Prince knew a lot of people. And his relationship with Husney ended in the late 70's or early 80's, right? Is it possible he just had a brain fart?

yeah yeah,we get it.You don't want anybody who was once connected to Prince to share their stories rolleyes You are forgetting that this is Owen's life, too. These were his experiences too (not just Prince's).I'd rather read Owen's book instead of a trashy tell-all by one of his former groupies.Speaking of which, you seem to support Devin Devasquez's book, don't you? lol I guess you're more interested in reading about Prince's sexual habits, lol.

I hear you but is Owen a musician who can shed light on Prince's musical development? He is going to talk about what he was like as a client (which is personal). I don't think its a big deal though because his perspective obviously is limited and he will probably talk about all the people he worked for.

Well she did not tell us too much about his sexual habits that we did not already know. I think Owen is a carpet bagger. That is my opinion and I stated why. I will share with you the Pepe Willie interview were he states the real reason Prince dropped him as a manager. See below. Be careful who you cheerlead for my friend. Read the part in bold.

http://beautifulnightschitown.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-work-pt-1-pepe-willie-talks-2.html

They practiced in our home from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., 10 hours a day. They worked really hard. Prince gotten a sum of money and he was buying all this new equipment from all the stores. Husney was his manager.

One day, Prince was at his home after rehearsal. I went over there, because, I couldn't get him on the phone. It was after they had practiced for 10 hours. So, I'm over (at his) house on France—he had just got signed by Warner Brothers, so, he had his own home. I was knocking on the door and he's not answering. I hear this tapping from the back of the house.
So, I go around to the side of the house, I look in these windows and I can see Prince playing drums. He's kicking drums after 10 hours of rehearsal. So, in between the beats, I'm knocking on the window, so, he can hear me. Then, he finally heard me and I said "Open the door, man!" So, he opens the door. We go down in the basement and we're talking. He was talking about what he needed. I said "Look man, your manager is supposed to be doing this stuff for you" and I said "Well, I'll go talk to (Husney)."
The next day, I go to (Husney's) office; he had an ad company. I said "Well, Prince needs this and Prince needs that. You're his manager and you're supposed to do this stuff for him."
Then he said --and these are his exact words-- "What, am I supposed to quit my job here at the ad company for some guy who probably won't make it?" I couldn't make that up...
Then I said, " [T]hen you're out, you're fired." I don't know if I had the right to say it, but, I said it, because, I was protecting my cousin. He said "Well, why don't you be his manager?"
I said, "Well, I'm not a manager. I can't be his manager. But, I'm not going to let him get screwed out here." Those were my exact words. So, I went back to Prince and let him know what was going on. He and Husney parted ways shortly after that. So, now, Prince needed management. He's signed to Warner Bros. He's got a good record out that's doing well, For You. But, he had no manager.
I knew Don Taylor, manager of Bob Marley and The Wailers, through my connections. I called him and said "I've got a guy who's signed with Warner Bros. His name is Prince and he needs management." He said, "Yeah, I know Mo Ostin (then president of Warner Bros. Records)." He sent Prince and myself two first-class airline tickets to fly to Miami. He got us both hotel rooms. He came over to the hotel and he and Prince went back to his house to talk business. I just stayed out of the way.
I told Prince, "Look, I'm not a manager, but, I'm not going to let you get screwed." But, I did manage him for 30 days. Warner Bros. as sending me all the correspondence and necessary things.

I think people forget to show Prince's side of things. So good for Pepe on that one. When I listened to Owen, all he said was that Prince wrote him a note explaining that he needed him to do tons of things for him so he could focus on his destiny basically to be a star. When it is told that way without the backstory of finding Prince drumming away at home by himself after a 10 hour rehearsal, Prince just comes off spoiled and demanding. In Owen's defense, he may have needed his job and didn't mean his comment to Pepe to sound so harsh. Some people think Pepe was instigating and pitting Prince against Owen but the way Laura quoted him it sounds like Pepe was being sincere.

I hope Owen tells how he did not believe in the artist he was representing and what happend to Jessie Johnson and Andre Cymone carreers. Because his track record as a manager was pretty poor.

But I am sure you are not interested in reading the little tidbit of info I provided.

Get over your own repressed feelings about sexuality. These ex-girls ( Devin was a girlfriend) and jumpoffs are going to talk if this is a problem for you cover your ears and eyes. Also realize no one put a gun to Prince's head and made him run around with these women.

well regardless of what Owen Husney's managing skills are he certainly helped Prince and really believed in him for years. Idk why anybody would be against him sharing stories about Prince as a young man becoming himself and his early days in the business. I get there's an audience for the 'Prince played me and used me as a muse for a while before casting me off" sex stories (some of them are entertaining), but this sounds way more interesting

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

Jesse Johnson had several hit singles and a gold debut album.Andre Cymone became a "hot" producer in the late 80s,producing Jody Watley's albums. So stop acting like their careers didn't amount to anything rolleyes Your problem is that you're afraid that Owen is gonna spill the "dirt".That's why you trashed Mayte for writing a book, too.Let the man speak and tell his story.

Jesse and Andre also had complaints about Owen back in the day. If you think Andre or Jesse had a long successul carreer in the music industry you are smoking crack.

I do not think Owen will spill anything because he did not manage Prince long enough to know much but I am pretty sure he will not be telling the story that Pepe Willie told about how he did not believe in his artist which a manager is suppose to do as the first order of business. In fact Owen has said over the years he was let go because he did not get Prince a fan which Willie is telling you is not true at all. It is called telling tall tales to make yourself look like a victim.

If you tell on someone else you need to tell on yourself as well. I am sure that is not going to happen.

Nothing new here. Husney has been talking to anyone who'll listen for decades. Granted, he was important at a VERY BRIEF stage in Prince's early development. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. He was a business guy who saw an oppotunity and went with it. Well done. If not him then someone else. It 'ain't WAR AND PEACE.

By the way, I enjoyed Mayte's book. Stuff about her childhood went on a bit; otherwise, well written.

I think Owen Husney and Prince had a much deeper relationship than anyone of us well understand. I think at one point Prince became family to him and his then wife Britt. I read once how they made his breakfast and lunches and how Britt washed and styled Prince's hair. These were people who really cared about him as a person. They got to know Prince before fame hit (what a blessing). For whatever reason the relationship changed but I think Prince pasing hit him hard like the rest of us.

What would be cool if it accompanied Prince: the Demo sessions 1976-1977 or Prince: Leaving 4 New York the demo sessions 1976-1977

I love everything about that early period 1976-1978

Thanks for highlighiting this Latin

Owen Husney

In 1976, Prince created a demo tape with producer Chris Moon in Moon's Minneapolis studio. Unable to secure a recording contract, Moon brought the tape to Minneapolis businessman Owen Husney. Husney signed Prince, at the age of 17, to a management contract and helped Prince create a demo recording at Sound 80 Studios in Minneapolis using producer/engineer David Z. The demo recording, along with a press kit produced at Husney's ad agency, resulted in interest from several record companies including Warner Bros. Records, A&M Records, and Columbi Records. With the help of Husney, Prince signed a recording contract with Warner Bros.. Warner Bros. agreed to give Prince creative control for three albums and ownership of the publishing rights. Husney and Prince then left Minneapolis and moved to Sausalito, California where Prince's first album, For You, was recorded at Record Plant Studios. Subsequently, the album was mixed in Los Angeles and released in 1978.

Andre obviously has no problem with Owen.

Andre Cymone and Owen Husney Return To Loring Park

NRA8192.jpg

“The last time I was in this building was 1984.”

Owen Husney is standing in the doorway of 430 Oak Grove, a high-end apartment complex on the south edge of Loring Park in Minneapolis. As soon as the doors swing open and he steps into the marble atrium, you can see the memories pulling him backwards through time, back to when he was a young ad executive renting out an office on the first floor, and toying with the idea of switching back to working on music full-time.

“I moved here in about 1976, and we had just one little office. I think the rent was $120 a month, and I was screaming. How can anyone charge $120 a month? Let me go talk to the manager of the building!” he recalled, chuckling.

Soon after Husney enters the lobby, the door swings open again and he is joined by André Cymone, a musician who Husney would meet shortly after settling into his 430 Oak Grove space. Cymone was best friends and bandmates with a young undiscovered artist named Prince Rogers Nelson, and almost exactly 40 years ago they recorded an unreleased album known as the Loring Park Sessions in Husney’s office and studio.

The Loring Park Sessions have taken on a certain mystical quality for Prince fans in the last few years, ever since Husney found the tapes in his storage space and had them digitized and uploaded online. The sessions were recorded just a year before Prince would release his debut album, For You, and were captured in that hazy and heart-pounding space between when Prince had signed to Warner Bros. and when he would make his first step onto the national stage.

With Prince on keys and guitar, André on bass, and Bobby Z on drums, the trio pummel through a genre-bending set of eight instrumental songs that swirl together funk, disco, R&B and jazz. The songs sound more like a group of Los Angeles session players laying down tracks for a major studio than a group of teenagers just feeling out their vibe as a live band.

I would like to think that too. Life happens and people do grow apart even in professional relationships but I would like to know more about Prince before Purple Rain hit the theatres. The crew with him back then had to have REAL interesting stories to tell.
