well I am glad your up on W&L...I haven't heard anything from them since 1987.... curious though, were they playing Prince's songs before he died?

Flops? I would let to the record companies to decide...oh, as yor requested...did my research...W&L had been through 5 record labels... kind of makes you wonder why doesn't?

Your posts make sense to no one...but yourself.

and yet...you keep responding! lol

What exactly are the official macaylasdad criteria for being permitted to make public comments about Prince or perform live since his passing?

the real question is.....HOW MUCH does the estate make from the Revolution tour???????

i doubt if they make anything, i don't think they are going to be exactly raking in the dough, they are playing a pretty small venue here in seattle, ironically, the last one prince played at here.

so basically ANYONE can play his songs live and not have to pay much to estate????

PeteSilas

that's pretty much the way it's always been, i play all kinds of covers and so does any musician, i've never seen anyone seriously worry about getting sued for it.

  • His cousins
  • Susan Rodgers

I have to go with W&L, sorry I don't see it...yes they were his backing band during PR, but he kicked them to the curb 30 years ago! I know, what your going to say about the music they created...but only 3 albums came from and 2 out of 3 flopped. The 94-95 NPG, SOTT/Lovesexy, Musicology bands were better!

NONE of the above!!! The CORRECT answer is "Dub-Ya B"!!!!

I don't know about "milking" part ........maybe the question should be if Prince was still alive would there be tribute songs, concerts, tell-all books etc about him right now? I don't think so.

I follow him on social media and he actually does reference Prince quite a bit. Doesn’t bother me. He was one of the last musicians to work with Prince and he obviously has a lot of respect and admiration. I don’t think it’s a bad thing if people who worked with him talk about him. They’re keeping his memory alive.

Easy: You are is milking it - as well as all the jealous haters.
No actual association with Prince but talk for days and days about what a "really happened' and how they would have saved him. Or who is highest on the milking totem pole.

Make sure you talk to them with a Bob George's voice.
Careful it doesn't come out as Barry White with a cold, otherwise all hypnotic effect will be lost.

I'm hoping W & L move on after the Revolution gigs. It would be great if they got back to being interested in writing/ performing their own songs again. There was a period in the early 2000's where stunning music was being produced...and if you lived in LA, you got to see them play intimate gigs quite regularly. This all felt natural to them.
