I understand hurt feelings but let's not act like being in Prince's band was a selfless endeavor. They were paid and did get their names known.

This is not right but this is the entertainment industry which is shallow to begin with. In addition, she was his girlfriend why would he not want to be alone with her? Also Prince did go on to work with very talented musicians.

When you're hurt, you can be unreasonable. Lashing out at Vanity, probably is an easier path to take than lashing out at Prince. Being in a band that's touring and helping him perform his dreams takes committment and "love" to do it. I could imagine back then, Prince did not spend time consoling the bands feelings. The tour and upcoming movie.

It was all for him and they're all still searching for how they fit in the story.

I honestly don't know what he's whining about. Prince treated Dez more than fairly. Even though he (Dez) had been making noises like he was going to be leaving The Revolution, Prince asked him to stay on and commit to another three years (to carry through the Purple Rain movie and subsequent tour). Dez opted not to do that (rather abruptly, by the sound of it), but Prince kept him on the payroll for quite awhile after that.

Dez was already unhappy and looking to leave. Vanity is just his scapegoat. Period.

the way i see it from the revoultion anc backward they were all arrogant and thought they deserved so much u look at the people later in his life they like the npg he was with before his death they never spoke ill of any other people they were full of love and respresented that. brownmark saying he wrote kiss and ll that allt of stuff they are saying now they never spoke word of while he was alive and now they all talk as if prince was the protehe and they made him

To me it almost seems like they all feel his stardom should be their stardom.

Sorry, he was the star. Short of W&L, most of whose fans are Prince generated, none of them went on to be highly sought after commodities.

Prince was always the star, the one people wanted to be close to and the one whom drove the ship.

They all need to get over themselves

And no matter how much praise and "purple props" P fans generously bestow on them it's never enough...

They were unduly jealous and ungrateful then and they still are...

Before you guys drag Dez for the hell of it, let's remember that his book came out almost fifteen years ago and he did indicate that he has put those incidents behind him.

Let's not pretend he is still running around whining about it in the present time when the book is from 2003.

It is not Dez's fault that the OP just now got around to reading the book and making thread about it. rolleyes

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Exactly! also the person who said Vanity is unforgettable? I've heard maybe one or 2 of her songs. They were not to my taste and I couldn't tell you one thing about her, I don't remember nothing about the song lyrics or melodies. I have no desire to either. I took a listen to one song cause I kept seeing so many talking about her and was greatly disappointed when she didn't meet what I expect in a woman singer.

Vanity has her place in pop culture. Different tastes is what makes the world go round so it is all good.

This article from Vogue is a good read of who she was/ is in pop culture.

http://www.vogue.com/article/vanity-prince-last-dragon-rihanna-80s

I think that the thread is timely for those in a way if only to juxtapose what Alex Hahn said about Prince hardly spending any time with Vanity at all and the talk of her being his girlfriend was exaggerated.

Prince was the boss so he had the power to decide what went down. Anybody in the band had the choice to move on and do things their way as Prince did. I am also wondering if they expected Prince not to have a personal life? I think that is pretty sick.

Right. Dez had a great run with Prince. He was proud when he scrimped and saved from his pay and bought his first home. Then later he was grateful after making more money being in the band, he was even able to buy the quintessential Rock Star home. He said it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. He allowed that he wouldn't have traded what they lived for nothing, warts and all.

Nasty Girls was a hugh dance record and big hit for Prince. You can put that record on today and people will get up and dance Pharrel Williams liked it so much he ripped it of for "Slave 4 U " by Brittney Spears.

Sorry you are to young to remember music that people could actually dance to or a time when people had rhythm.

Vanity was not a good singer as she was a model but she had personality, chrisma and looks. Prince had the right music for her had she not left him I am sure she would have continued to do well in the music world.

Her version of "Sex Shooter" is incrediable and if the WB people had a lick of sense they would have put that version on the remaster.

Sure. Dez was with Prince for five years. He acknowledged that his plan was to contribute, learn and grow, and then he would move on. He said the only thing worse than missing your opportunities in life is to hang around too long. When he said Vanity was brazen in her opportunism - he was brazen in his as well...
