I interpreted that comment as being specific to the song "America" and not about Sheila. Having seen many of the Revolution reunion shows, they always perform that song by themselves without anyone else singing lead for them.

It was shade toward her which is weird because she wanted them to be apart of it.

I not only think it was shade and weird but really RUDE. She tried to include them but I guess they think they are too special to share any spotlight. I've also noticed Revolution members throwing shade at other bands after them. The whole we were the last band stuff. It's really a shame. I'm still trying to think positive about them but sometimes it's hard.

They are coming off like assholes. I know Sheila put that group togehter for the BET truibute and it would not surprise me at all if they were invited for the end jam and just did not want to share the stage with the other associates.

Even NPG folks (publically at least) have a great deal of reverence for the Revolution. So maybe there is some legitimacy to what they are saying. However, I also think there is a "us against the world" mentality toward the rest of the associates (musically, that is. They don't seem to have any thing to say about ex-wives or girlfriends--unless its Sheila). I don't know maybe Sheila has a strong personality (which is exactly what P liked about her) but clashes with the Revolution dynamic. But at times, they do seem a bit elitist.

No they don't

and there is no Lovesexy band

even Cat on her FB page said a few years ago the Revolution was her favorite band

the dynamics of the band which I do love was doomed. I knew that late 1987

Probably not, many of them have played together in various forms

.
What did the Revolution say about Sheila E?

.

Sheila E and Revolution members have played together from 2002-2011

Wendy Lisa & Sheila E specifically have had each other for shows
When Wendy & Lisa won an award for best score a few years ago, they had Sheila E as guest performer. Sheila E when doing a show at the Playboy Mansion had Wendy guesting on guitar.
And they've done many other shows together. Also joining Sheila E's CoEd band ie Sheila E Candy D Rhonda Katt Dyson Lisa Wendy & Susannah
Wendy & Lisa & Sheila E have gone to award shows together

BrownMark has jammed on stage with Sheila E

Dr Fink and Sheila E have done a few shows together

Sheila E rushed to Minni to see 'her brother' Bobby when he got sick

St Paul said whenever Sheila E comes to the area she is a guest in his home

Fdeluxe and and Sheila E did some shows together

No they are not. Since you know so much, they've already explained it. They felt it was just too early. They didn't feel ready to do something like that.

I felt for Sheila e on that, but 50% of it was grief and 50% was ego. And I understand. Because she and the rest were all basically called 'not relevant' so she had to prove herself. So for me, and my mindset, I would not do it for that reason either.

.

But Sheila E probably has some kind of way of presenting something that is offputting.
She probably didn't mean anything by it but when Morris Day and the Time backed out of one of those Charities, how Sheila E presented it was wrong, even if her intentions were not that way.

.

Sheila at that BET tribute, it was about her needing to prove she is relevant, and again, I get it, but how would that have worked having them just do America etc As much as I cheered for Sheila E because her emotions were everwhere, you can see she was trying to represent everything she could in that show. It looked/felt rushed.

Yeah you want to think that. Sheila E and the Revolution both said they felt they were not ready to do something of that magnitude so soon. This is not unknown information.
They said it was not the way they wanted to first do something. DAngelo also wanted Wendy & Lisa to do Sometimes It Snows in April originally. But they also said it was just too early for them to process it that way. Now here is my thing. THEY wrote the song with Prince, not DAngelo -who has always tried to imitate Prince for his careers success. So I would be taken aback a bit in a situation like that.

.

Throwing shade, what have you noticed?

.

quote it right. 'The last band Prince was in'. And if you look at the dynamics of the time periods it is true and reasonable. You cannot say Prince & 3rd Eye Girl was the same dynamic as Prince 1980 Andre Bobby Z Dez Dr Fink Lisa Coleman

people interpret things according to what is in their own hearts and mental process

Andre Cymone said something similar about when Bobby Z called him to perform with them, just a little different circumstance though.

Since Prince died? I was talking about collaborations since Prince died. I have seen pictures of them with Sheila before Prince died. I have watched the Brit awards with Wendy, Lisa, and Sheila backing P. I am aware of those.

They didn't say anything about Sheila that i know of. I never said they did. I said maybe NOW she doesn't fit within their dynamic. I do know however that when they were finally interviewed after his death (as a group) they did reference a discomfort with people going on tv to talk about Prince right after he died. Many people thought they were referencing Sheila there. I made the point that someone had to talk about P in those early days (kind of like someone had to get on with the business of arranging funerals etc) because they certainly weren't up to it.

Could you acknowledge that "50% of it [might be] grief and 50% [might be] ego" where the Revolution are concernedas well?

Don't get mad --- I don't think there is anything wrong with any of his associates being imperfect or having mixed feelings. But do we really need to sanctify any of them. P wasn't. Why should they be?

I was showing their relationship prior to Prince passing. And I doubt their respect for each other would change after the fact. Once everything settles down, hopefully everyone will reconnect.

.

Sheila did say she was 'very competitive' so it could come off wrong is she is not cautious.

.

Unless they stated Sheila E, because there were so many people talking, I wouldn't just try to create a focus that it was Sheila E. I would just take it as a general comment.

the 50% with Sheila E was specifically the BET Tribute. And I understand it. She should not have been presented with that.

I'm not apply that to anything else she does. Not to the Revolution nor the Time. Maybe Tony M though lol

What I'm talking about is

1. Prince a 50something yr old vs 20somethings

2. Prince in 1980 barely famous, just out of Andre Cymones parents basement, living with Lisa Coleman and Wendy still trying to make it vs 2013 post Purple Rain superstardom movies 20+ albums confessing to his sister and a few others that 'he did all that he came to do'

the relationships with his pre superstardom bandmates just would not be the same as people met much later.

A band of musicans played on the concert tour for Sign Of The Times/ Lovesexy meaning their was a band. I watched a band on stage with him when I saw the Lovesexy show. So there was a band. If you listen to the Eric Leeds interview on the Micheal Dean podcast he said they knew the band was only going to be short lived for those projects so your information is not a new and has nothing to do with them not being a band in the first place.

I could less about what Cat has to say about the music. I know what I like from my own ears. Small Club is all you have to listen to see that band left the Revolution in the dust.

Also remember Wendy even said he had musicians later that could play rings around them.

Good read for sure. The only thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the comment regarding Sheila E. reaching out for them to back her up for her Prince tribute, doing the song "America". Mark seemed as if he was offended to be backing her up on a song that Prince and The Revolution did. Does it even matter, as long as it's respectful, sincere and with love? And i would think they all would have a cool relationship considering how much they played together back then. One thing i've noticed in various interviews is how either the writer or the Revolution cast the Revolution as being Prince's only significant band, which is kinda disrespectful to all the bands that followed. The Revolution was cool and they're a tight and talented unit, but if they had been the end all to be all, Prince would have continued playing with them. Prince's bands after the Revolution, i feel, reflected, represented and showcased his artistic growth, which was constant. When Prince expanded the Revolution back in 86, Wendy and Lisa seemed a bit salty, but Prince was growing and he needed flexible units that could contract and expand at his will, like the NPG. Still, today, i can't say that i'm as impressed with the Revolution as i am with ALL of Prince's following bands, especially all versions of the NPG. I will say this though: Sheila NAILED 'America'; best Prince remake i've heard thus far; the Revolution shoulda got on-board live as well as in the studio.

Co-sign. It would have been great if the Revolution had got on this song with her. For whatever reason she has the albility to get music recorded and out to the public why get offended when they could be recording a respectful tribute.

I said there is no Lovesexy band. It cannot happen again 1. Boni Boyer(RIP) is gone 2. Cat doesn't care for Sheila E 3. Miko Weaver has been a bit of a cry baby and has not reached out to anyone else Sheila E/NPG/the Family etc and there is a 4 and 5

Cat is/was a major part of the band so, again, it cannot happen

No they don't

and there is no Lovesexy band

even Cat on her FB page said a few years ago the Revolution was her favorite band

the dynamics of the band which I do love was doomed. I knew that late 1987
