For me, I draw the line at spreading harmful/demeaning gossip about someone in a book especially after they've passed away and no longer here to defend him/herself. insinuations of him taking her drugs, gossip about him burning his baby's ashes, her interpretation of his first reaction to their child, that stuff is hurtful and harmful. That's what Mayte brought to the table in her book.

What about his penis size, how he liked 3somes, doing it on all the furniture, how he liked to watch girl on girl, how he was like a woman in bed.....do you draw the line there? How can you draw the line on 1 and not the others?

I don't care for any of these love affair books, but Devin isn't running around claiming Prince, saying she wrote her book out of love or that he would've been proud and hugged her and ish like that. If Mayte had said, yes, I'm writing a slam book on my ex now that he's dead and can't do ish about it, I would've respected her more. I was one who supported her writing a book when I first heard about it after Prince's death. She claimed she was doing it out of love and it would be respectful, then the contents leaked out and it was all a lie. She lost me for good with this one.

Devin was nothing more than one of Prince's lovers.Around the same time that she was supposedly "seeing" him,he was also seeing Susannah Melvoin,Sheila E. and others.Nothing spectacular about her story. She's simply cashing in on her association with Prince. At least Mayte was married to Prince and had his child. She has a more compelling story to tell, imo (as opposed to Devin's "I-was-Prince's-sex-shooter-for-a-few years,here's-my-story" book).

There was nothing scandalous in Mayte's book, she didn't knock him. She probably could have been a vicious bitch, but she wasn't. So get over it, move on, but if you are outraged at 1 book, then you probably should be outraged at all the others too.

A real lady would never talk that way about her ex-lover, just saying.

She probably needs the $$$$$.

An ex-wife who claims to still love her husband (present tense) would never throw her ex under the bus like she did either.

Am I the only one that couldn't care less about the women Prince was with in the mid to late 80s and early 90s? None of these women interest me in the least. Certainly not ones that write books about it.

I care. If it shows us more of Prince. Like I and some others were saying on another thread, I would love to read Robin Powers book, talking about them running around the house playing, stuff she talked about like how he liked to wear tube socks and slide across the floor. That kind of book would be fun to read. It's not about the women really, more just showing us the fun side of Prince.

Ha-ha! Your comment made me chuckle. lol

.

Personally, I really don't care, one way or the other, really. I'm not gonna run out and buy their books anyhow. lol

Just wondering why it's ok for some to write a book, and make money off of the purple gravy train, and but it's not ok for others?

Because Devin does not go into any detail. She leaves some mystery and the bulk of the book is about her time in Hollywood, her encounters, and her rough childhood. In addition some of the proceeds go to Yes We Can Code and the book only cost a dollar. A lot of old head fans knew about Devin already.

LOL Did we read the same book? Other than Mayte she goes into detail right at the beginning. That's what I was saying in my previous post. She starts with the sex stuff (an old publisher's advice if you want to get the reader interested) only to later in the book tell us that he couldn't make her climax and that she had never been interested in sex anyway. Yes, abuse might have been the reason for this but then why does she sell her body professionally? And as a minor? That picture with Gene Simmons in that Daily Mail article that was posted here does not show me the shy little girl that she's trying to sell.

There is absolutely no mystery in that book, the mystery to me is just how she can sell it only for a dollar and yet donate? LOL And it is another mystery to me why the price of the print version is 39 bucks? I used to work in publishing, I know a bit. Yes, it is self-publishing, and she knows why. Because no serious publisher would publish it. It is so poorly written, full of contradictions and filler. It is almost ridiculous how many times she repeats things like the "elastic on his pants that went around his heels" - and in places where it makes no sense.

Plus, in the print version you find nothing that hints to the "fact" that proceeds go to any charity or something.

To top it all she tells us that she asked Prince for a sign if it's okay to write a book and he sent an owl LOL If it had at least been a dove, okay but seriously, she wrote the book to advance herself, and this, and only this is the reason for coming with things like the "furniture" adventures.

She also does not humanize him, she writes like he was one of the many who were after her and she adds herself to times in his life where she was not around. Which shows a lot through the book as she always goes back to the Purple Rain times. Cause those were the only times she was in the picture. I talked with others from his life - they've never even heard her name. They all went, Who?

That they "remained friends" is something she claims. Now. I approached her personally about some of the times she claims she was still around and gave her some details. She was very quiet. Yes, that doesn't prove anything but to me, that doesn't matter. The timing, the style, the quality, the contradictions, her reaction - nothing speaks for her.

Compared to hers Mayte's book has class.

Nobody knows who you are, and your wrong about people not knowing who devin is because i personally talked to jill jones and she remembers devin. Bobby z,cat, and jerome all remember her.

I can't be wrong when quoting someone else. Doesn't make sense.

Me too. But she was not the one I was referring to about Devin.

After a MAJOR surgery which was a C-Section. She wasn't sharing them, as she said they would come up missing....OMG don't even start this again.

It she said the moon was made of blue cheese you would believe it. Mayte was suffering from depression perhaps even post partum I would not be mad at her or Prince if they both were taking something with what they were dealing with at the time however, she acts like it was not his baby and he was supposed to be super human. I never get any compassion from that women about that baby stituation at all. Not too mention how super personal it was and I am really glad he was not around to see this book releashes as I cannot imagine how much this would have hurt him.

Devin only said his shoe size had nothing to do with anything with no graphic descriptions. You do not come away from her book knowing anything deeply personal about Prince.

You learn that he liked to have fun and chill out. The only women making his come off as a butthead with females is Mayte because maybe she made him be a butthead with her.

She org noted me. biggrin She also did not write a book and put out a person's most upsetting and horrible moments in print for the world to see so she could get a check. What portrait of Prince do you think he would have more of a problem with some ex-girlfriend talking about all the fun they had or some ex-wife cashing in on their child's death.

Most fans want to hear the fun side not the depressing stuff that Mayte is selling and trying to make Prince's whole life as one sad sack party. We all have bad times and we all learn to cope and move on instead of writting a book Mayte needs to get to a thearispt which is what most right thinking people would do.

I cannot imgine an ex-wife that simply will not go away. Next she will be saying he murdered her soul like Steve Harvey's ex-wife.

I may have missed some part of the topic back then but so what she is not making him look bad and I doubt most guys would be upset about the ladies praising their bedroom skills. The point is Prince had a whole life before Mayte came along and after she left he was not the sad sack she made him out to be. I suspect she may been a little bit of the problem.

I hear that too. The way she wrote the book, the narrative voice she uses, she really does want their life to read like a tragic fairytale. Not the most mature thing but their whole relationship was a fantasy that Prince capped her head up with, so I expected as much. She was also more reflective Than I thought she would be. Still, I could tell there were deliberate gaps.

The gaps are her not telling on herself but to be fair so many autobios are like that now a days. People are too chickenshit to be real about their own mistakes which are the only mistakes you can correct in life.

Once again you have no idea how Robyn was run off of this board. I just reached out to her and we had an exchange. I did not think she should have been run off in the first place.

She had no dirt to tell as I do not think consenting adults are doing dirt if they are doing what consenting adults actually do. Some people live in the real world not fairy tale land.

Robyn talked about a fun, happy go lucky fellow that she had a fling with. Unlike some people she did not delude herself about him and she moved on with her life.
