I find the whole soulmate business hilarious since most people don't understand what the term really means. Soulmates are just people who come into your life to teach you lessons or help foster your soul's growth. So, any and all the women who played a part in that are his soulmates. They don't necessarily stick around and they don't necessarily have to be someone you're in love with. Your kids can be your soulmates.

everything in our society has to be about sex/Eros,
I agree a 'soul mate' can be anyone any form of love relationship from best friend, sibling/twin, cousin, grandparent etc

Like Valentines Day. It is a day to celebrate love. We start out teaching kids that when we encourage them to give 'valentine' candies to classmates, teachers, parents etc but then once 'eros' kicks in, as we get older it is all about that.

Very good. Folks get soulmates, twin flames and lotsa other variations on karmic relationships mixed up all the time. Mostly because they intersect and overlap more often than people recognize.

It can be very confusing, even when you know the differences.

As OF4S said, the social conditioning of a love object ("the one") is driven by the moral concept of "purity" and less is more. This actually plays out in the "stan" mentality - THIS celebrity/protege above all others. It's a misguided love concept at best and detrimental in the way it fosters the "us against them" mentality.

Thank you.

I tend to say kindred spirit because it describes someone who resonates strongly and it could be anyone for any length of time.

One of the more troubling aspects of the stan mentality is the absence of objectivity to the point of being unreasonable and viscious toward fair critique.

Calling someone a Stan is just another way of declaring how much you hate the person for whom someone is stanning, as in "no reasonable person could possibly like Mayte, therefore you must be a crazy lunatic if you do".

If someone LOVES MJ and is always saying MJ is better than Prince, then a Prince lover could call that person an MJ stan, but that would be a much less vicious insult because both these characters are men, and it's the women over there that get shredded, especially Mayte since she has the successful book.

nod Here's the thing: You can’t point your finger at someone without pointing three fingers at yourself. Literally. Just try it.

well in the sense of pointing at someone(non literal) you can 'not point' at yourself.
If I point at someone who abuses their spouse, it doesn't mean I'm guilty of the same[/b]...

BINGO...
If I'm simply a fan of Prince - but don't "stan" for any particular protégé - I may simply observe when someone else is "stanning" for one. lol.

Yes. Our society puts a lot of emphasis on having/getting a romantic partner. This is illusory and it puts our dependency on another person, instead of God.

Sex/romance has no spiritual power in of itself, and Power is the key. But spiritual power; not the other kind.

I see Mayte is joining Prince groups on Facebook. It seems a little odd to me that an ex-wife would join a Prince fan group on social media. 🤔 I'd say the same if it was Mani.

It's another way to keep herself enmeshed in his life and legacy. She had already been making "friends" with everyone who was in his circle on social media prior to April, however, she didn't connect "publicly" with any of them until he was gone. That, alone, speaks for itself. Manuela kind of never left the circle but wasn't as public about it. Remember, it was Manuela who contacted Mayte about the news.

There is no doubt in my mind she is using the grief of fans to sell her book. I remember seeing a photo from a Prince fan who went to one of her book signings. It was a photo of Mayte giving her a hug and this fan said "meeting Mayte did my heart good". What? Maybe I'm being overly harsh or cynical but was Mayte chummy with Prince associates when he was alive? Did she reach out to Prince fans when he was alive?

The finger-pointing analogy is a pointed lesson making the point that judgemental people who point fingers at others should first take a look in the mirror at themselves. Usually "stanning" itself hurts no one. It is only when the self-appointed "judges" come in attacking the "stans" and trying to tell them what to think that the chaos ensues.

No. In fact, the last 7 or 8 years she kept giving interviews (especially when she was doing that HE shows) that she was tired of being known only as his ex and wished people would stop asking her about him or mentioning him in context with her.

When the stanning hurts P's legacy or negatively impacts it, it is not a judgement to remind the stans of facts or the truth. It's real life.

I don't think Manuela was in his inner circle at all though. I think that was a very tight group of people, even tighter after 3rdEG. Good point about M2 being the one to aware her of his passing though.

I think that anyone who comes to a messageboard for a particular person stans-

Whether is for the music, style, or personality of the celebrity.

I do not think a person is mentally ill or unstable to celebrate a person. People are stans for many things.

I have seen it on this board for Mayte, Andy, The Revolution and Vanity. I do not think there is anything wrong with it nor do I make fun.

I think it is all part of the celebrity and fandom. If it were not for "fans" or "stans" there would be no need for websites for a particular celebrity dedicated to them.

What I am finding amusing is that the attempt to belittle some for doing what all people do on celebrity /entertainment sites.

I would like to know why the bait is going on to try to make people squelch it. There have been threads and even silly ones about so many people in Prince's circle band members , associates.

This section is called Associated artists and people.

If there is to be no talk of the the associated artists and people I would not come to this part of the forum.

THIS is the heart of the matter.

I'm always first and foremost a P fan. Any other associate is merely a side dish to P's main course in my fandom. Everyone else's mileage may vary, of course.

I was a P fan before she came into the purple kingdom and remember Vanity. I liked her when she was with him. I tried breifly to keep up with her, but lost track of her soon after Action Jackson. I never felt any animosity towards her and did not know her as Denise. By the time she was Denise again, I had long lost track of her.

I was saddened when I heard of her passing and found out a bit of her journey after I had lost track of her. I was glad that she was able to find her path, purpose and peace.
