God and music by far. He loved everyone. But as for romance, after a certain age he had a fear of growing old, so the women he was with because of that fear...well...it couldn't work out. A real love of his life? Like a fulfilling partnership on equal ground? I think Vanity and Mayte came closest. [Edited 4/30/17 18:19pm]

Still on the wait list to ger her book from my local library; but from what people have noted on the book thread, it doesn't seem like Mayte was on equal ground with him. Have you had the opportunity to read the book? If so, is your take that their relationship was one where they were on equal ground?

She's one of the people who I feel came closest as far as humans go, whom he spent time with. IOW, she was very spiritual and nurturing too.

Yes and yes but before either of those would be God.

This topic comes up a lot. Of course, music was his first love, but as far as people are concerned, I think Prince loved different women for different reasons throughout his life. He loved Denise "deeply", as he said in his own words. I think he loved Apollonia, but maybe due to their careers, the love thing didn't last. He loved Mayte and he loved Manuela, but for different reasons. He loved Sheila E. at one time in his life. It's really hard to say if he loved one more than the other, but he did seem happy and content with Manuela. Prince had a lot of girlfriends, he loved women!! LOL lol

I cannot even with the women ;Prince's first love and everlasting forever love was his music!

These women could not compete with his true love and had to take seats accept it or leave.

Prince loved music , he was faithful and steadfast to music and no woman came above his music.

Music and people are two different things.

.

The title says WHO do you think the love of Prince's life was, not "WHAT". lol

.

Of course music was his primary love of his life, but we are talking about "romance", like in people!! lol

Music is alive and gives life and is spiritual and higher than these women so I stand by Music.

Music never betrayed him and was steadfast to the end.

He didn't have one. He could never find angone with more spiritual growth than him, and that is the only thing that would've done it.
Music remained first. And God. And his purpose.

Exactly, music never betrayed or defamed him or his memory for monetary gain.

Music was forever the best and consistent most loyal lover of them all.

I know he loved her and all, but I think she was selfish (always in his head; only permitting him little respites and/or outside relationships); she was all consuming; wouldn't allow him to rest and take time off. Like he felt that he couldn't afford to be away from her for one moment; that he would die without her. I know she was given to him by God, brought him joy, peace and comfort, but I think she took a lot also...maybe took more than she gave.

He took on a teenager becoming her guardian while taking her on tour with him for years. He seemed madly in love with her but just like M2, M1 was a diehard groupie who dreamt of being his girlfriend and marrying him while she made her way into his life. Therefore the loves were never TESTED nor PROVEN. Prince so needed to marry one of those round- the- way girls from early on

but unfortunately he was not ready to settle down with any of them and unfortunately he set his sights on meeting the newer and younger groupie girls.

I so wished he would've married Susan Moonsie or Vanity. Susan was so very talented and underrated. If only Vanity would've stayed strong and held on to allow him to guide her career and her future I believe their love would've lasted. I don't believe he was that compatible with Sheila as she sacrificed a lot and was there for the long haul.

He was not meant for marriage- he said in Home he never wanted a typical life . . . trophy wife.

His love was music. As much as I believe Prince and Denise were twin flames even I know Music was it not any of the women- they were clearl y interchangeable but not his music.

I agree. nod

.

His music came first and relationships never worked for him, for one reason or another. He did seem happy with M2. I think he loved different women for different reasons, but I don't really think he ever found true love. People change as they get older and Prince was still evolving. I don't think he ever gave up on love, entirely though.

Yea, and he said in an interview after he married M1 "Marriage was the last thing on my mind."

For some reason I just needed to see a little Purple Rain just now.
I must be due.

Accidentally brought up the trailer. Hear what it says at :47

Now later on, he said music isn't enough. I believe God was always first, and this became so more and more with time.

He said the women were a result of the music. But God I believe meant everything to this guy.
I think he used the music as one way to do God's will.
