Susan Rogers lecture Rotterdam May 26, 2017

26 MAY 2017 20:00

Exclusieve lecture Susan Rogers

On Friday, May 26, 2017, no less than Susan Rogers will come to Holland for a unique and intimate lecture. Amongst lovers of Prince’s music, Susan is an authority on Prince work in the 80’s.

She worked as a studio engineer with Prince from 1983 until 1987. Often Susan was the only one with him in the studio during the recording of his iconic albums “Purple Rain”, “Around The World In A Day”, “Parade”, “Sign ‘O’ The Times”, “The Black Album” and “Lovesexy”.

On May 26th Susan will speak about her intensive collaboration with Prince. We will talk about the recording process, about specific albums and songs and also listen to Prince songs, after which she will give the audience an analysis of these songs. In addition to regular albums, Susan has recorded numerous unreleased projects with Prince. She is in many cases one of the few witnesses (if not the only witness), of unique material being recorded by Prince in the studio.

The lecture with Susan takes about two hours. Attendants will be given the opportunity to ask questions and participants will be given a vote about which Prince songs are listened to with Susan.

This event is set up by a group of lovers of Prince’s music who are proud to welcome Susan to Rotterdam. The number of tickets is limited and we can probably not facilitate all people interested in the event, so be sure to get your ticket quickly to avoid disappointment. The event is organized in collaboration with Codarts University of Arts in Rotterdam. Students from Codarts will attend also.

Before and after the lecture there is an opportunity to have a drink together. The music is taken care of by DJ’s Mr. Happy & Mr. Good night.

PS: Grounds and The Kunstal are close together. An excellent opportunity to combine the lecture with a visit to the Prince Expo.

TICKETS: €31,21

For those who can't attend, look up Susan Roger's lecture a few months ago at the Red Bull Academy. It was truly fascinating. Jam & Lewis also did one.

Yeah me too! Looking forward to the lecture

Nice details: the Grounds venue is in a building that used to house the Rotterdam Conservatory. I studied jazz guitar there in the late 90's...

Seeing that we have Moonbeam Levels and now Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden officially released in less than master quality, I hope someone asks her about what she knows about this...

This was a blast!

.

JJam, I did ask, but all she mentioned was that WB spent a lot of effort on getting the best quality tapes and we wouldn't be disappointed. The conversation was such that I couldn't get into it deeper.

.

Hope everyone else that visited also had a good time

I was there and I had a great time. She has great stories! I don't have time to post much right now (I'll try later), but I came across this nice article (in Dutch) about her lecture. The article is called 'The unreal world of Prince'

I was there too the 27th. Great lecture with many funny and moving anecdotes. Susan Rogers came across as a kind, smart and down to earth person. She signed my SOTT cd, and we took a photo of her, me and my two brothers. What a nice day, thanks to the guys who organized this (hope you read this!)..
