Mayte This Morning

UK orgers, she'll be interviewed live from the U.S. on ITV's This Morning programme (Sky channel 178, 10:30 am) most probably by Schofield and Willoughby. Well, hopefully not by that drab, dull and boring presenter, Ealmon Holmes, who at the time of Prince's passing said that he was more of a girl's artist than a man's. Couldn't handle Prince's 'flamboyancy' apparently. What an idiot.

Main issue is the fact she was only 16 when he was made guardian ..making a huge issue of her age

They went in hard at the start about how young she was and then his being controlling and cheating. They didn't mention the baby at all, so I think they were probably under condition not to talk about the baby but everything else was ok which is probably why they went in so hard about her being so young (I was scared they were going down a Saville-type path at one point).

.

Prince didn't come off well from their questions, but Mayte always tried to spin it back around to the positive and how she disagreed with their opinion of things. She looked great too.

P proposed in Barcelona over the phone.. then made it up to her by leaving a paper trail to her ring.. realised after he passed that he was unfaithful "a lot" after connecting to people after he passed.. she was still very defensive of him and as of yet doesnt have a bad word to say

I thought Mayte said that they met when she was 16. But that P had guardianship when she was 17.

Yes ago she said 18. In the book excerpt it suppose to be 17 and now it looks like the media is stating she was hanging out at Paisley Park at 16 when she was still in Germany with her parents. To her credit she is trying to keep the media on track and away from the pedophile story but she had to know this world happen. I do not care what anyone thinks the media is shaping the narrative that he was some pedophile drug addict based off stuff they twisting from the book. This is bad for his legacy and the estate. eek

I don't think they were going quite that far - they never said anything paedophile-related, it just seemed they didn't want to get off the subject of her age. Philip Scofield wanted to really drive the point that at 16/17 he would not hand over legal guardianship of his daughters to a rockstar, and I don't think most of us would. But Mayte was clear that she was already working as a dancer at that age and was not some kind of wild child. The presenters were giving broad strokes and Mayte was really coming from the POV that it was a job, work, touring.

I expect the legal guardianship was probably a necessity of the job, touring, at that age. Yes it's an unusual situation, but it's an unusual job.

-- I suspect that someone would have had to have had authority if she needed medical attention. If she was 17 and her birthday was in the fall the guardianship would not have been for a few month. I wish she clarify this at least to make her parents look better.

Legal guardianship would be needed to give permission for Mayte to travel, to record, but also for medical emergencies. If Prince had tried to take Mayte out of the country, across state borders, with her being a minor, that could have opened up a whole new set of circumstances for Prince. Legal guardianship just means that someone has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the minor. As spontaneous as Prince was about performing, touring, doing one-off performances, etc., she would need someone that was immediately accessible to give permission for her to be able to perform, to receive medical attention wherever they might be at that time, and her parents were not immediately accessible. It made legal sense for Prince to have that guardianship. If Prince's lawyers were worth anything, they would not have allowed the situation without some type of legal guardianship in place. And legal guardianship does not equate to adoption. He was not her parent in any fashion, just merely an adult that could make decisions on her behalf until she became a legal adult at 18.

The interview was brutal. At one point the presenter questioned the "honour" of a marriage in which one party is being unfaithful. She was flustered and said she didnt think P cheated during the marriage, she doesnt know for sure. No sugar coating here. They questioned her father handing over guardianship and how could he do that. They mentioned Manuella being around and how at that point Mayte knew her marriage was in trouble.
She was asked how he proposed, they laughed at how unromantic it was proposing on the phone. They did not mention the baby or drugs. They disected the relationship. They questioned how Prince docked her wages for putting on weight. She looked like a deer in the headlights at times, always smiling of course. She was taken to task on some things in the book. She just kept smiling...

Prince being dragged again as a result of the interview

PHILLIP Schofield couldn’t hide his horror after Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia admitted her father signed over her legal guardianship to the icon when she was just 16.

lol - there is one comment on that thread. No one really seems to care. There is also an article on OK! that states Phillip Schofield was slammed for his interview techniques with Mayte. The headline, as is usual, is much more scandalous than what is actually in the article.

I cannot understand how she did not see this coming. The British media is brutal and she does not seem prepared at all for how things are looking by people outside the fan community. Why did she not learn from Prince to keep your private life private because the media will use against you.

He is not around to threathen to sue anyone or look out for her. What was she thinking and who is advising her?

Exactly. This is what she wanted. Very naive of her to think that some interviewers would not ask pointed questions of her that would make her account for statements in the past and present about Prince. It's been said a thousdand times that Mayte has the right to tell her story and people have a right to challenge Mayte for inconsistencies in her statements in the past.

The British media will chew you up and spit you out. This was her first Britiah interview, she thought she could sell her story there with no serious questions asked. Im afraid shes deluded if she thinks that.

Who knows who is advising her.

He did not come out bad, either. The interviewers did their best to try to twist it, but Mayte did very well to bring it back into a good perspective.
