And I think I see Prince's emotion and I don't know the attitude he had when he was young maybe when I see Andre. Maybe that's just because I know they came from the same place and were close at one time. But whatever it is.... I LIKE IT. razz I think if anyone should take Prince's spot with the Revolution it's him. And I know nobody can replace Prince... just if.

I love Andre, but one of the things that make me look a lil sideways at him championing Prince now, is that he said after he left the band he never listened to another Prince album.

So as a fan who got 99% into Purple culture, it is almost a lil disrespectful to me when he said that

So as a fan who got 99% into Purple culture, it is almost a lil disrespectful to me when he said that

Prince threw shade Andre's way too (see BassPlayer article from 1999).

They eventually put their squabbles behind them when Andre's mother was in the hospital, and Prince went and stayed there with Andre until she passed.

Andre also said Prince invited him to come hear him play at the Sayers Club, and Prince had Andre play Dance Electric with him.

Prince then reached out to Andre when Prince played with 3EG in Anaheim, and gave him a seat on "the couch" and later introduced Andre to the band.

So I think they were all good in the end.

No, I wasn't questioning whether or not Prince & Andre are good, I already know about their reconnection. Andre sang on Dance Electric with Prince & the Revolution on th Parade tour too.

But I mean, when it comes down to past and upcoming tribute shows, I wonder about the material because as of Sept before the Revolution show at First Avenue, he said outside of hearing singles on the radio, he never listened to any of Prince albums after the time he left the band.

I agree, and for some reason, I always detect a tad bit of bitterness whenever I hear or read one of his interviews.

yeah or regret?

I remember when he talked 'admirably' about the September First Avenue shows, who it was strange they the Revolution asked him to join them, because he was one of the firsts... But that would have been the logical and realistic thing to do. Andre never called anyone of them to do shows. It was Bobby Z in 2014 who also called Matt Dez and Andre to do a show @ First Avenue

seems they have hung out a bit before April 21st 2016

Yes, he is. These musicians were work for hire people. Unless they had an agreement in writing beforehand they were not going to get credit for anything. Years later Prince had musicians sing contracts stated that they would not received royalties for any works created.

I am not saying Andre or Dez or not talenetd as musicians but their solo output is not anything to write home about. Even Wendy and Lisa and Jam and Lewis have gone on to do great stuff without Prince because they have alblity to produce stuff the industry and the public want.

You cannot keep crying for almost 40 years that someone stopped you because of a few songs.

--Doesn't mean he didn't rip them off, Laura. It means he started getting musician's expressed consent to let him rip them off. It's still a shitty practice and he did so knowingly. Not cool. Just because it's common practice doesn't make good or best practice.

Andre did a great job producing Jodi Watley in the 80s. I mean she was HUGE as a result.

And that was about it. The last thing I found that he did was some music on the Days of Thunder soundtrack. Something is off about him and he does yell out on one of the songs on 1969 that he was incarcerated so maybe that is what is wrong.

Sorry but every musician should know if you do not have a copyright to the material no royalties are coming. In addtion, Andre said that Prince tried to pay him more than everyone else in the band and he wanted a raise for everybody. He was being a crusader and trying to be the band leader.

How long do you think he was going to last in P's band pulling that kind of move? Also he has stopped saying he wrote "Do Me Baby "since that song is a rip of 'Frantic Moment" by Eddie Hazel.

yeah, some people just don't have that 'thing' to lead even in a small capacity

I don't think that incarcerated was a big thing, I think I remember him talking about it, it was like overnight.
