How many Prince related acts did you see live?

In addition to the thread about how many times did we see Prince live, it might be nice to see who's seen P's affiliates (i.e. ex band members, artists produced by or within the inner circle of Prince or worked with him on- or off stage, in the studio, etc.).

Here's my list:

Wendy & Lisa
Madhouse
Candy Dulfer
Lois Lane

I've seen Madhouse if you count them on the Lovesexy tour. Apollonia was there, too.

I've seen The Time, with Terry Lewis sitting in on bass, at The Quest (formerly Glam Slam) in Mpls in 1997.

* Mary J. Blige and Patti LaBelle at Jazz In The Gardens in 2012.

* Chaka Khan at Florida AIDS Walk in 2013.

* Alicia Keys and Miguel at Set The World On Fire Tour in 2013.

* Janelle Monae and Esperanza Spalding during his Uncasville concert in 2013.

* Sheena Easton at Pride Fort Lauderdale in 2014. (she didn't perform any Prince related music, unfortunately)

* Sheila E. at Stonewall Pride in 2014.

* Maxwell at Jazz In The Gardens in 2015.

* En Vogue at Stonewall Pride in 2015.

Back in 2007, I saw Fantasia do a heart wrenching version of Purple Rain when she was on tour with Jamie Foxx. That was unforgettable!

Going to see The Time at Jazz In The Gardens this March.

Is Earth Wind & Fire considered a Prince-related act?

He composed Super Hero for them so I guess yes.

Funny thing that he would turn down Maurice White as a producer in 78, and end-up writing for them 15 years later.

I've saw Morris Day as a solo act in 1986( my first concert). I saw Larry open for Prince on the JOTY tour(don't remember how many times). I saw Chaka, Sheila and Wendy all play with Prince at the 2004 Essense fest(yeah I know that's reaching). I saw Janelle Monae open for Prince at the 2014 Essense fest. Jesse Johnson as a solo artist in a club in Atlanta in 2011(one of the best concerts I've ever seen). The Time 63 times( 53 Morris Day and the Time, 10 the original line up).

I know the OP asked for anyone who worked with Prince on stage or in the studio, but it's strange to me to call artists who worked with Prince on just one or two songs Prince-related acts. Especially veteran artists like Earth Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder whose late collaborations with Prince are dwarfed by hugely successful careers prior.

Chaka Khan and Larry Graham are different because Prince produced entire albums for them and signed them to his label.

Yeah I know but still... Just wanted to be comprehensive here wink

I could have added others that Prince has met but since he never did anything with them I didn't.

Lord, lemme see if memeory can even go back that far hmm lol

The Time

Vanity 6

Appolonia 6

Sheila E.

The Family

Wendy & Lisa

Mayte/Children of the Sun

I think that's it.. it's hard for me to name acts like Larry Graham and Chaka as "related" because their brand identity was already in place and legendar when Prince was a youngin'. But I've seen them too long before they ever collabed with P.

Chaka

Larry

Patti

that's all I can think of for now. I got Old Lady Brain today duh

Jesse Johnson's Revue

The Time (only Part-Time.)

Sheila E.

Taja Sevelle

George Clinton, Chaka, Mavis Staples, Larry Graham.

Then if you're counting James Brown and Earth, Wind & Fire, and Ani DiFranco I've seen them.

(If those are 'related acts' tho, shouldn't Stevie Wonder count? I've seen him, too.)

She had those two big hits "Girlfriend" and "Mercedes Boy" , I think she did another album but I'm not too sure. And yeah..she was SUPER HOT! I thin she was married to LA Reid, I know she got involved in the business side of the industry. I dont know all the ins and outs of it, but she's the one who robbed TLC, signing them to a contract that paid them peanuts.

I am sure I am forgetting a few, but these come to mind:

Sheila E. (solo and playing with Lionel Ritchie)

Madhouse (playing a show before Prince played his U4 aftershow in 1987 and also opening for Prine 2 times)

Morris Day & The Time (sometimes in the mid 90s)

Larry Graham and his band (Montreux aftershow 2013)

George Clinton (in the 90s I think)

Chaka Khan (early 90s I guess and opening for Prince too 1 or 2 times in the mid 90s)

Candy Dulfer (I think 3 times over the years)

Andy Allo

Tevin Campbell (probably in the 90s or early 2000s)

James Brown (does he really count? - around 1990)

Mavis Staples (mid 90s)

Ani Di Franco (90s)

Colonel Abrams (late 80s)

Alexander O'Neal (2 times mid 90s)

Rita Ora (it was a free concert and I left after 2 or 3 songs because it was raining and she was aweful IMO)

Rad (as a member of another band - just recently)

I am not sure If I saw the Bangles once( hmmm )

TTD close to 20 times over the years I guess

Lenny Kravitz

Mothers Finest (probably 5 times)

and if it counts if they only opened for Prince (among others):

Carmen Electra 4 times I guess

Lois Lane (I think 4 times too)

Doug E. Fresh (1 or 2 times)

[Edited 1/18/17 3:24am]

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

If Terence Trent D'arby and Lenny Kravitz are considered Prince-related then I saw them live too--only one headlining show each though.

Nikka Costa would be someone else who falls in that category. I've seen her many times.

Since we are expanding the Prince circle, I forgot about Amy Winehouse. I saw her live twice.

I've seen Alicia Keys live a few times.

I saw Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings once live too.

To consider every artist with whom Prince has shared a stage enlarges the potential list considerably. Like all those guys who played with him on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. I never before would have thought Tom Petty and Steve Winwood were Prince-related artists. eek

Good question!

Candy Dulfer twice (mid 1990s - Glasgow)

NPG (without Prince, London IndigO2 2007)

Mavis Staples twice (London 1990 and Brisbane 2016)

Maceo Parker (Glasgow 2005/6 ish)

Sheila E (Sydney 2016)

Cancelled shows:

I had tickets to see fDeluxe at the Caloundra Festival 2015 but they cancelled their tour. In the end I didn't go to Festival as they were the only group I wanted to see! I missed them in Melbourne in late 2016 as I was overseas when they were in Australia.

Janelle Monae (Brisbane 2015) She cancelled her twin headline shows with Kimbra during the first show in Perth! Kimbra had played her set then Janelle Monae didn't come out, the rest of the shows were cancelled.

I also bought a ticket to see Martika in Brisbane (2012?) but she cancelled that too.
