Judith Hill

Has anyone taken a sincere listen to Judith Hill's music?
I haven't yet.
But today on Dr. Funkenberry's latest podcast, he had 2 engineers on his show who sang the praises of the 2 Prince protégés they worked with: Andy Allo and Judith Hill. My ears perked up because one of the engineers said that Judith's voice was just amazing - that she could really belt out a song.
I know Judith was Prince's "next" project, as they put it, maybe his last, and I haven't heard much about her.
This got me thinking I would like to take a good listen to her music.
Dies anyone have a good recommendation for a song of hers to start with?

Judith was one of the highlights of the tribute concert in October. I never heard of her until I bought George Benson's tribute album to Nat King Cole. She's awesome on Too Young and I'm pretty sure it's on Tidal and iTunes. Then there's the soundtrack to 20 Feet from Stardom too.

I assume you know she released the album Back In Time in 2015. It is available on CD, but kind of hard to find. The standout tracks for me are As Trains Go By, Angel In The Dark, Beautiful Life, Cry, Cry, Cry, and Back In Time. The whole album is great. Judith tore up the Cross at the Official Tribute show.

Thanks both. Yes, I listened to some of her music last night.
Beautiful. Very powerful voice. But also melodic. I can see why she worked with so many greats.

And I suck because I just bought Back in Time and Superconductor a few months ago but I think it's a shame that these albums got zero airplay on my local radio stations. Even my adult R&B station has found a way to keep Beyoncé on repeat. I'm hoping to catch the show at B.B. Kings in NY in January if my trip works out right.

buy the whole album. I was thoroughly impressed with the writing and performance of the songs.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

I got the album back when Prince released it as a free download for a limited time.

It is well worth paying for though. cool

I think I will purchase the album.

Found this cool article from March, 2015 which shows that Prince often had the same technique when supporting these young women musicians. He put a lot into them: time, love, encouragement - and money. Lots of money I would guess.
