So did anybody from the org go and meet her?

I read on Facebook that some idiots threw bottles at her while she was on stage. Any truth to that?

Yes, someone threw an empty water bottle but it wasn't during the belly dance, it was when she changed clothes and was on stage dancing with everybody else in the black dress. No one should have thrown anything at her because that was wrong, but I also stand by what I said about having pity for Mayte in another thread. She has never grown up and learned to have a life beyond Prince. She has made it a point to befriend his current and former associates in an effort to be in his world and rekindle something.

I don't think she's a bad person but I do think that she has never accepted that Prince just didn't want her around and it doesn't help that stans and fans feed the delusion that it's still 1996. He pretty much abandoned her in Spain and disavowed the marriage CONtract but married another woman a year later? How can anyone romanticize that? I don't know if I even believe that she's exploiting his death for personal gain as much as she's in the mix because a future with Prince is impossible now and she can't deal.

So, no one actually met her?

As far as her "riding on his coat tails"..... she was belly dancing before she ever met him. So this is something she's done forever. Maybe not teaching the classes, but her being a belly dancer didn't result from her meeting him. And the fact she was asked to be there by the family should say something.

How many world famous belly dancers do you know? Prince made her famous. She may have been belly dancing before that but that particular talent was hardly going to propel her to stardom. She needed Prince then and she needs him now.

This statement proves you know nothing about her. We are all entitled to our opinions, but when they are malicious why even state them?

For the life of me, I do not understand the hate? She truly is a real, genuine soul. She is NOT afraid to be real and I think people are taken back by that.

If I trust anyone with Prince's legacy, it is Mayte. And no, I am not a paid spokesperson.

Same. I was thinking about his legacy and said the same thing about trusting her to do the right thing by his name. Like I said, I believe she has never gotten over him and probably never will. The book thing doesn't bother me 'cause I don't believe she will paint him in a bad light at all.

BillieBalloon...... So why aren't you bashing Sheila E? He kinda gave her some fame too. And she hasn't exactly stayed quiet this last 6 months. There's all kinds of people he's "made famous". That will forever profit in some way from his help. Whether it be from a musical aspect, friendship, or even marriage. And like it or not...people are interested in Mayte now. His death has brought back his whole life for people to ponder. And she was part of that life. They had a child together. And as one other person posted, she met him young. He was her first love. She was thrown into fame, and then yes....thrown out. I think she's handled it well. I could see people saying she was "using" his fame now, had she have gotten happily remarried to someone, had tons of kids, never mentioned him again.....then boom...all of a sudden, he passes, and THEN she shows up out of nowhere. But thats not the case. She knew they'd never get back together. But that doesn't mean she ever got over him. And again, as loyal as his inner cirlcle is...do you seriously think they'd include her in things if there was bad blood between her and Prince? If they thought she was anything but sincere? No.....they'd have her nowhere around. So again, like it or not.....she was a big part of his life, and he was a huge part of hers.

I was a fan when she first came on the scene, so I know plenty about her. I don't know her personally, do you? My opinion is not malicious, you are in denial if you don't think she is famous purely because of her association with Prince. She's not afraid to be real? Neither am I but you can't accept any real opinion that differs from your own. I'm not taken aback by anything, certainly not Mayte. You trust her with Prince's legacy, fine but Prince's legacy stands by itself , he doesn't need anyone to validate his life long achievements because they are there for the whole world to see. Please don't patronise Prince this way, thanks.

You're upset because I said Prince made her famous? Where did I say she wasn't a part of his life? I said she was a belly dancer before but it was Prince who bought her to our attention. Her book is about their relationship. Even the title references one of his songs. She is NOT an independent artist, she is a Prince associate and her book has his face on the cover. She is using her connection with him to further her profile, and if you can't accept that then that is not my problem, it's yours.

the whole "using him" part is what I have trouble with. So no I don't "accept" that. However it's not a "problem" for me..as you say. For whatever reason you're bitter about her. Pretty sure you didn't know her or Prince personally...so I just think it's hilarious how you can be so sure on her intensions and feelings. I take it at face value and what I've heard from people actually close to them, things she's said, appearances she's made and her obvious sincerity. Is she writing a book? Yes. Will she make money? Yes. So will a lot of other people for various reasons because of Prince. If she wants to teach belly dancing classes and make a profit...who cares!?!? You think the people that are working at Paisley Park right now, making a living, collecting a paycheck, aren't at the very least indirectly making a profit from Prince's passing? rolleyes Mayte barely gives interviews about Prince. (and she probably could...and get paid WELL) So yea..she's writing a book. Oh well. It was her life too.....

Everybody who has ever worked with Prince profited or continues to profit from the association. Like I said in a previous post, prince wrote all the Times music, wouldn't even let him use the name when they reformed, but yet he's out there as Morris day and the time performing music Prince wrote without the original band. Apollonia hasn't changed her name back to her pre purple rain name, she's still booing by Apollonia, same with Carmen Electra? Everybody who was once associated with him will always be associated with him. So if ya gonna hate on one, ya may as well hate on all.

Pretty sure you don't know Mayte personally either, yet your opinion carries more weight than mine. Of course, I'm bitter and jealous because I don't agree with you. Prince and Mayte's relationship ended and they never spoke again. Prince did not stay in touch with her, she said so herself. Now, why exactly that is only Mayte and Prince know. You choose to ignore the fact that at the time of his death they had no relationship and had not had one for years. At least I'm dealing in reality, you're not. She will give plenty of interviews when the tell all book comes out.

You're right for the most part, of course. However, when people say this I think of Kristin Scott Thomas. He did give her the major break into film but she has built a career in France, England, and Hollywood that is wholly separate from her association to Prince, so much so that a lot of people don't even realize her first movie role was in UTCM. I think it's very likely, as well, that she would have ended up in film anyway, at least in France, but still. She moved on immediately, although I'm sure she was more than greatful for the opportunity.

But, yes, the more recognizable Prince associates still use their association with him for their career (I guess you could say Wendy and Lisa don't, since their careers morphed into film scoring, but still...)

Yes, someone threw an empty water bottle but it wasn't during the belly dance, it was when she changed clothes and was on stage dancing with everybody else in the black dress. No one should have thrown anything at her because that was wrong, but I also stand by what I said about having pity for Mayte in another thread. I don't think she's a bad person but I do think that she has never accepted that Prince just didn't want her around and it doesn't help that stans and fans feed the delusion that it's still 1996. Throwing a bottle is taking it too far. I think the person who did this should have been removed. Whether one likes her or not, expressing an opinion on social media, if done respectfully, is a better approach.

This is my normal life. These marital standards cannot be recreated with money.

Yeah, about the bottle throwing incident...it was not even close to her so whoever that fool was better go take some throwing lessons.

For the most part, the crowd st the memorial were amazing and showed her so much love. If you watch the video, as she was walking off the stage, she got a standing ovation, and later on at Muse...the fans that came up to her were extremely nice. I have to admit, except for a the raucous few who find fault in Mayte no matter what she does, Prince has the most amazing fan base who love all aspects of his work and the work he has done for others and with others. It's pretty amazing. So I'm not going to let a few rotten bananas spoil the whole bunch. Show was amazing by he way. Sorry that Rolling Stone don't agree, but if you were a true Prince fan, the lack of John Mayer and Christina Aguilera was better off. Gave Prince's people more time. Kip Blackshire killed it. That man should be a star. And the backstage area was like a family reunion. So much love from all these people coming together to respect their mentor and friend. Prince has a lot of damaged relationships in his past, but everybody knows that and still loved him. Even the fans still love him after he pretty much sued a bunch of them. He wasn't perfect, but he was still Prince. I have had my issues with him through the years, some public, some not...but you can't deny the man was a once in a million year talent, of which we will never see the likes of again in our lifetime and our children's lifetime. So let's celebrate him in death, as he wanted. Time to put all your negative feelings aside and celebrate the positive, the music.

And to the person stating again Maytes book is a tell all, you are completely wrong. It's far from that.

Now can't we all just get along and state and respect our opinions without insulting each other?

Prince's lovely family retweeted video Mayte has posted of her wonderful dance intro to "7" that she performed at the Official Prince Tribute.

Prince loved to feature this dance intro during the symbol era concerts:

Throwing a bottle is taking it too far. I think the person who did this should have been removed. Whether one likes her or not, expressing an opinion on social media, if done respectfully, is a better approach.

[Edited 10/18/16 15:35pm]
