Tamron Hall: Prince's substance abuse a "devastating surprise"

Brief clip from Watch What Happens Live: Tamron says she never even saw Prince drink, but does believe he had a substance abuse problem that he hid from people close to him, such as her.

I don't know how long she and P were friends, but she states in the interview that she saw him quite a bit. She seems to believe that it was the meds and only the meds that killed him, meaning no underlying illness that she knows of. I find it strange that someone can have a substance problem and no one ever sees them high, with slurred speech, etc.

I think the truth will trickle out as majority of the fans are ready to hear and process it.

What stands out to me is hearing stories of someone(forgot the name sorry) saying P told him he had a heart murmur. Then also hearing that 3rd eye girl said he told them his epilepsy had come back. Could this have been him inventing ailments to cover up taking medication as people wouldn't question him being slightly out of it? It would be interesting to know if any other regular acquaintances had been told similar stories.

It was doctor fink who said that P had heart Murmurs, everybody's body is different but people have said that having a heart murmur isnt deadly or life threatening.

Yawn. If he kept this painkiller thing hidden (to the point where someone who supposedly talked to him every day didn't notice) why would anyone think he would tell them about an illness (or anything else)? She doesn't know. Still blows my mind IF this was an addiction how someone who was very close and spoke to him nearly every day wouldn't have noticed something. Unless you can take painkillers that have no effect on your personality, don't make you sound or look like you're high on something? Of course then that just tells me he wasn't popping pills for the hell of it just to get high.

Really? They were once romantically involved? I thought it was just speculation. Do you mind stating the source of this info?

It sounds like maybe it was. A caller asked what was the most important thing her friend Prince had taught her and she was stumped intially because there were "so many things" so she said she would throw out something superficial, which was that he helped her with her clothes. Sending him pictures each morning of what she intended to wear and he'd give her tips. The host ,Andy, said well I think he would approve of this what you're wearing tonight and she said something like. . .you know I put this on, popped the collar for a little Prince action. . .

-- That is the part that makes no sense. At this point we have heard this from 100 plus people I don't care how high your tolerance level is these pain pills can make you loopy. How did he work, perform and socialize? There is more too this then just substance abuse.

/// Dr. Fink said he told him this back in the 80s and I do not think he was lying about the seizures besides why make up aliments when no one notices you are high anyway. I think he a few aliments going on maybe not all life threating but he had issues.

She supposedly knew this man so well yet was shocked to know he had a problem with painkillers. How would she know if there was anything else going on? I mean my god the guy didn't just wake up one day and decide to start popping pills for the hell of it. I really wish she'd just keep her mouth shut. That's why I have major respect for people like Damaris. They're not blabbing to the media like Judith Hill did.

I don't get the impression that she really knows what was going on with Prince to draw any real conclusion beyond the obvious of what was reported. She claim to talk to him a lot and send a good amount of time with him but did not sense he was not well and was taking pills.

This whole thing is crazy. When Prince died I thought it was going to be a simple cause of death, now it has spiraled all different ways. People are puting all kinds of statement out without reallly saying anything. How could someone say they know someone and not know they are not well just say well drug addict hide their use, well of coase most do. These are powful meds to hide from people.

I didn't think she saw him much. She talked to him on the phone a lot, but with her job and his touring there is no way she saw him quite a bit.

Unless you know her and Prince you know nothing. She just said she spent signifcant time with him and she must be the 100th person who knew him that is surprised about his death from drugs.

Yep, on the phone and texting, that is spending time with someone.

“We’re very good friends,” says Hall. “You can’t date Prince. He’s a great friend. He gives me great advice. He gives me advice on what to wear, my hair, you would be surprised. Well, you wouldn’t be surprised because he has a reputation of being a controlling person, which he’s not. He’s very opinionated. When I cut my hair back to this style, he sent me a picture of Audrey Hepburn and he said ‘I see you trying to be Audrey and he told me to move the bangs off my face.

All day, a full-length mirror selfie featuring Tamron Hall has been appearing over and over again on MSNBC viewers’ screens. That photo, it turns out, graced the cover of one of Prince‘s singles last year, and since everyone in the media and beyond has been paying tributes to the late legend, there’s no better time to bring that single back up.

In fact, today on Today, it was revealed that she had declined an offer to go visit him in Minnesota this weekend.

She explained that it was “a private picture,” not one that had been made available on her social media channels. Then, she admitted that she sent him photos regularly to get his fashion advice, so the sending of a selfie wasn’t out of character in their relationship.

Just read what she said...

--- We are reading what she said a while back. Are you listening to what she said a few days ago? Spending significant time with someone is not just talking on the phone and she could have just said that again to Andy but she did'nt. She also said she went to grief consulting. Keep thinking you have some knowledge of P's business.

I wonder if she means that Prince, like myself, either fell in love or he didn't, I don't attempt or try to fall in love, I either am digging someone deeply and spending a lot of time with them or there's nothing. I don't put conscious asserted effort into love. We shouldn't have to. It's either there or it isn't.

I don't date. That's trying. Why would I need to try at something that should happen so naturally?
