I concur. If I weren't expecting a wedding dress, I would have thought it were a Halloween costume. sad Makes me wonder who picked the dress?

Back then yellow gold was still popular. People with medium to dark skin tones found it more flattering and white gold could be mistaken for the much less expensive silver. I don't think it was until Platinum became known and respected as an even more expensive metal than gold did white gold start appealing to more people.

The swirls of that ring are so very 1970's, and 80's and those are Prince's aesthetics. I am sure she received compliments on that ring ALL of the time "back in the day".

pimp2 That's his style. Mani's ring was similar to Mayte's being a gold and bold and diamond bypass setting with a round center stone. That means he & I would've fought over a princess cut solitaire with a dainty 1 millimeter gold band. lol

lol, you wouldn't have made the cut, Prince clearly wanted to have the last word on the hair, clothes, make-up and jewelry of his lady friends. Those that became is wife seemed the most maliable of them all. At the time that Mani was with him she was still a smitten fan and not the outspoken woman that she is today.

Lol, thanks, I think. smile By the way he wore a band with scattered diamonds, and the next time was the exact same ring as his wife's ring.
What?

Look at her third finger. Left hand. The ring she wears, looks like her wedding ring.

Although this engagement ring may seem "modest" by today's standards; that was a pretty flashy ring for the 90s!! Woman today are materialistic (some, not all), and want a big rock. Personally, I think a diamond over 2 Carats looks hidious! Also, the size of a diamond should be based on the size of the woman's hand and her fingers; a big diamond on a small hand looks cheesy, and vice-versa.

This was 90's fashion + a touch of Prince's unique style. I don't love it, but it was very 90s.

Evidently Prince chose the ring, and to say it's ugly is to say his taste was wack. Don't forget Prince practically mandated what his women worn in fashion, shoes and jewelry. I remember reading somewhere that he designed her wedding dress with input from the worman who made his own clothes.

Who gives a crap how big or pretty the ring is. He could have stuck a rusty wing nut on my finger if it meant marrying the man! lol

--- Exactly it is beyond tacky to bitch about a engagement or wedding ring size or cost.

Yes, it is tacky and rude. That ring is beautiful, and so was the man that offered it. I'd walk down the isle in a potato sack and a Cracker Jack ring to marry that man. Who gives a flip if it's yellow gold?

Prince apparently made the dress in house, Versace had offered to fly Mayte in for a dress fitting but Prince did not want that he picked the dress.

Just a note on wedding rings; I sell them. The white gold has been popular for a while but the rose gold is now gaining ground. The few customers that I have showed rings to that wanted the yellow gold were from Egypt, Morroco or South Africa. They all were medium to dark complection and looked great in yellow gold. It is funny just how controling Prince was compared to many brides today. Most tell their fiance's exactly what they want and I doubt that he even sees the dress before the wedding, never mind picks it out!

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
