Really? I totally didn't envision her. I always imagined he was singing to some young girl who he wanted who was carefree and learning about the world, who flirted with him but was kindas stringing him along. That is just what I pictured while listening to the song.

I do remember in Alan Light's book Apollonia telling him that Prince said this song was about them and I was like ...what??? eek Apollonia? I thought they were just buds and professional assoicates but just shows you how much a fan can really know. From her post I learned that their friendship was a lot deeper than I thought.

From the song lyrics though it sounds like he was really trying to get with my girl Apples, (not that I blame him though, if I were a guy I would try to get her too!) lol . That lyric about wanting to lick her kitty clean??? eek That is so Prince. lol unless it was all in a joking, teasing manner and he was trying to make her blush. shrug Prince was such a jokester.

I don't know why I put them two together regarding that song but it was before Prince posted the song on Tidal with them both on the bike. I was like "ahh, thought so" lol Apollonia has pictures on her Instagram account and (Id need to check to confirm) but one was wishing him a happy birthday & she was looking forward to meeting up for dinner. I'm paraphrasing but I got the impression they still kept in touch way before the 30th anniversary.

GRRR ... It's driving me crazy but I could swear she posted something last year on her FB account about preparing dinner for a "special" guest. I got the impression it was P, but now I can't find the post (which I'm thinking was deleted cool)

I'll try and find it but I don't know how you post pics on here. She called him 'Skipper' on it, I remember that lol

I can't work out how you post screenshots but she posted birthday message on IG account on his birthday last year and mentioned "din dins", I think they hung out more than ppl realised smile

I'm glad others were touched by it, but I thought it was odd. It's addressed to Prince, but it sounds more like she's writing it as a book. It's as though she wrote it to prove to the public that she had something special with P. She's telling him we did this and we did that...he already knows what they did...he was there. And why mention the kiss? (To try and prove they had something special...? It was probably a kiss on the cheek...they hadn't seen each other in 30 years. And P liked younger women...ok, I'll stop.) It would have sounded more authentic had she posted something to her Facebook followers and friends about her grieving experience. And some of what she wrote seems unbelievable. Just my honest 2 cents.

How is it unbelievable? Because she didn't write a book and say he whispered d "marry me." A lot of what she wrote was already known (1) Paisley Park Visit 2014 - just added more details, (2) seeming him in February. Prince even tweeted back in Feb about how Apples and JJ were going to be at his concert in Oaktown. If you look at prior interviews she has always described their relationship in a loving way. What made this letter so deep was that it was a reflection of the love and respect that she always showed toward him publicly and privately.

It's a bit like white folks trying to use the N word because it has an A on the end of it, instead of ER. It doesn't redefine the word as something less harmful or derogatory with a horrible history attached to it. It redefines the person using it as ignorant.

An interview from 2015 - Apollonia K.

Rabbits Black: Please make us happy and tell us the rumors are true about you and Prince being an item at one point.

Apollonia: When you look at the chemistry Prince and I have in Purple Rain, and still to this day, we make each other laugh uncontrollably, I can see how it’s easily assumed that we were a couple. But it’s that friendship, a form of longevity, a mutual respect and love that we have maintained for over thirty years that makes that chemistry so real. We can just look at one another and bust out laughing. He makes goofy faces and I snort when I laugh. There are all these rumors that Prince is so intimidating and I never saw him that way. Listen, I look at it as when I die and when he dies, we are all going out the same way we came in: bare ass naked. No one gets to take their fancy cars or their fancy guitars with them. We’re all the same in the end. Prince and I remain close, and sometimes a true partnership and chemistry is built from that and best to keep it at that, just friends

Rabbits Black: To still have this amazing bond with Prince after all these years, what does that feel like?

Apollonia: Isn’t it crazy? I remember this tender moment right before our thirty-year reunion celebration of Purple Rain. Right before I headed out there, Prince and I had a conversation and I said to him, “You know, it’s been THIRTY years and I want to thank you for picking me.” I started crying and was so emotional. I said, “After all these years, look where it carried us, look what’s happened. I just wanted to say THANK YOU. You picked me. You decided on me. You took a chance on me. I love you.” Then Prince said, “ I love you very much. I love you more.” It was a beautiful moment. I just love him.

30TH Anniversary Visit

Rabbits Black: WOW! That must have been such a nostalgic moment to be a part of. You were his muse and somewhat still are it seems.

Apollonia: It’s funny. A little before the reunion, Prince told me that he wrote and recorded a song that was inspired by a meme of us from Purple Rain where we are seen riding on the motorcycle, captioned “This could be us, but you playin”. He told me that he’s going to send me all the songs that he has written about us. I was just so excited. I thought, OMG do I fling myself ferociously across the floor like they do on ‘The Price is Right’ show? The song, ‘This Could Be Us’ was released last year. So the saga continues.

I love this story. I see the loving friendship between them and it is sweet.
It seems if Prince posted wherever that he was going to see a friend, it was okay if the friend did it too. I still wouldn't do it though smile I'd want to be totally respectful of his decision to say it only because he's the huge icon.

It's hard for people to hold back on social media.

In the last paragraph, I bolded what jumped out at me:

Such a powerful and moving letter, I feel like I have somehow slipped between the pages of her diary reading this. He was and still is forever loved and forever missed. I will be praying for her always. This has been very hard on all of us. sad

Wow so they were romantically involved ?? I thought that was just a publicity stunt and I read she was married at the time of the filming of purple rain It was a very sweet post though

Apples was seeing David lee roth of Van Halen and Prince asked her to stop dating him so that it would appear they were together for promotion of the movie.. I dont think they were romatically involved but very close friends none the less...

Nothing she stated implied that they were anything more than old platonic friends. TCBU had to do with a meme someone floated. It's clearly talking about a young woman that doesn't want to tied down. AK has been tied down in marriage, twice. Maybe she meant he dedicated the song to her . That makes more sense, imo.

It's mostly really heartfelt & lovely, but a bit odd in some of the details. Maybe she was just trying to remember as she wrote, who knows, some of it just hit me strange. But I feel her pain - hell, we all do in a way. As a shaken fan, I really can't imagine what it's like to have known him personally, his loss is massive... bheart

Who said that they hadn't seen each other in 30 years?
neutral
The presentation of this didn't send out any red flags to me as a marketing ploy. It's presented in a similar fashion as all of the Prince stories from women that I've seen...and her timing is much more delayed. His bass player posted a video on Instagram that he had her make in his hotel room and said that they spent a night together watching a movie back in February. Janelle Monae posted them riding bikes together. Tamron Hall said they spoke pretty much daily---he even called into her show once. Judith gave her testimonial about the plane incident. All of these women have revealed some type of minute detail of their relationship with the Prince that no one would have ever known otherwise. I think these expressions are just part of their healing process. Prince obviously loved practically all of the women in his life---he spent quality time with them and wrote songs for many of them.

This was from her FB post after Denise Matthews ie Vanity's memorial service

Still in disbelief we all decided to retire to our hotels to rest. We arranged to meet for dinner. Susan, Brenda and Jill along with our friends and family had dinner in San Francisco.

We were also joined by my brother from another mother Questlove who flew in from New York just for the service.

This is one of the many reasons why I adore him. For always being so selfless.

After dinner we walked the cold streets of Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardelli Square at midnight.

The following day we joined Prince in Oakland. Sitting in front of Prince as he played piano on stage and sang to us was epic. He announced to the audience that we were there.

We sang along, cheered him on, had tears, and laughed out loud at his adorable antics while he mesmerized us all.

We felt his pain and his love for Denise. We felt his love and joy that we were there with him. The songs took us ladies on a personal journey that we will never forget.

We are forever a family and there is a bond between us all that can never be broken.

To celebrate Denise's life, to celebrate our reunion, to celebrate our lives and the life of Prince, we all head out to a private gathering.

Great time indeed being together.

Watching Susan and Jill show Prince photos of their beautiful and talented brood was so cool.

The following day everyone either flew or drove home.

Jill and I shared quality time on the drive and came to the realization that indeed as Jill wrote so eloquently on her Facebook: “We ladies are THE ORIGINALS.”

Vanity 6.

Apollonia 6.

Jill Jones.

Lisa & Wendy.

Sheila E.

And this also includes original member of Vanity 6 (before Denise Matthews entered the scene), Jaime Shoop, who sang in the group then became Prince's first manager.

An honor for us all.

Knowing this, I am forever honored to have met Denise Matthews.

I am forever honored to have shared so many brilliant moments with my sisters Jill Jones, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie, Sheila E. and Lisa and Wendy.

I am forever honored to have shared such success and happiness with Prince.

This is why I have woken up a better woman today.

On the Arsenio Hall show in 2014 Prince said there were a lot of things he doesn't do anymore, and some things he still does. The Prince of 1992 swore like a sailor. Later in life he stopped and put a swear jar in his house making guests pay every time they cursed. People do grow up, even rock stars.

-/ Did he change or did he slow down a bit? At the end of his life it appears he was seeing a few different women. I also will mention an interview that Andre Cymone did were he talks about how his brother Eddie was a pimp and how Prince got an education in the Anderson household. T.C. Ellis also said that a lot of ex-pimps and hustlers settled in N.Minneapolis so they all grew up around these old hustlers and pimps. Ellis said growing up Prince was not a thug or a pimp but learned to carry himself that because of the people they grew up around.

He was seeing a few different women? Who? He told Rolling Stone he was celibate. Maybe he was lying but why would he feel the need to lie about something like that. Anyway I don't care if he was seeing someone or not, my issue is calling him a pimp. I think it's disgusting.

You can be "seeing" someone without having sex with them if you are like-minded in that regard.

You got one going for grief therapy, the other following his spirit around the country hanging with old friends and band members leaving behind her children and husband, you got another feeling like a "widow" another this another that, it's no wonder he never took up with one from his past. They probably bored him. Prince ego was as big as the sky. What man approaching 60 wouldn't want to have ALL the woman from his past stroking that ego? And they all STILL fell for it!

You can be "seeing" someone without having sex with them if you are like-minded in that regard.

Not everyone is having sex in every mixed gender relationship.

Sure, but when people here say he was seeing someone (or more than one person) I think we know what they mean. lol

Oh, I know what they mean. It's completely inconceivable that a sexy man with an exhaustive (and no doubt exhausting) sexual appetite and history could've matured in his tastes and beliefs into a sexy man who was celibate (as he stated in the "lost Rolling Stone magazine interview of 2014).

Especially when people are ridiculed for not having sex. It's something to be ashamed of. Yet he freely said it.

LOL. Funny. But true!

Yes, Lawd help us. I forgot who posted it, but I think it was an Orger who said something about "P having women laying around the house like cats).

I find that visual quite apropos. I wish someone would draw it.

In response to the "is he or is he not a pimp", let´s take it from the man himself.

"My name is Prince and I am funky (You can't stop Prince)
My name is Prince the one and only (You can't stop Prince)
I did not come 2 funk around (You can't stop Prince)
'Till I get your daughter I won't leave this town
I won't leave this town
I won't leave this town"
