Apollonia immediately called that first Od for what it was in the classiest way possible ("Prince you need to take care of yourself") and immediately earned my respect. Even better now to hear how she was trying to get to him to make sure he was ok. It's disturbing though that he curved her... For the moment I put that in the 'no way in hell I'm actually going to rehab' box.

I don't think he curved her, I think it was the people around him doing that.

I'm not so sure. There are several ppl who tried to get hold of him after Moline (Andre, Sheila, one of the less known backing singers whose name escapes me right now, probably others). Those that phoned the staff couldn't get hold of him directly, but they got messages back from him, all saying variations of the same thing 'I'm fine/I'm perfect. Don't worry/Save your prayers. I'll see you soon.' He curved everyone that week. sad

Not like I love my guitar....

Such a beautiful, straight from the heart open letter to Prince.

I retweeted this and put "Hard to lose your soulmate.Feel for Apples" and she liked my tweet. I truly believe she thought of him as her soulmate & he felt the same about her. When I first heard "This Could Be Us" I thought then that he wrote about Apples & she confirmed it.

My heart goes out to her, she must be going through hell. Xx

Sorry, if that's all people got out of this post it's pretty sad. As far as I'm concerned pimp is a derogatory term that should never be used in association with Prince. Same thing with junkie.

no one care what you think,,,its cultural..i leave it there,,,you want to talk that

Okay, so let's take another example. I don't know about in the states, but in the UK for a good long while it was usual for certain groups of people to describe stuff they think is shit as 'gay.' Now, weirdly, gay people don't like this, because the word gay also means, y'know gay people, and using gay as a synonym for shit is obviously pretty upsetting to them. When ppl mention this might be offensive, others might go, 'no no no, that's not what we meant, we just meant shit' but the fact is you're still using a word for shit that means something else as well. It's not that I don't understand what is meant, it's that you're using a word that means 'man who violent and exploitative' or 'man who is good at controlling his hos' as a synonym for 'man who is sexy as shit/extremely seductive' and y'know, that pretty much entirely fails to capture what is so sexy and special about Prince. And in the context of Apple's lovely heartfelt post, it's also pretty disrespectful to immediately reach for a word which positions her as just another of Prince's hos. Some people objected to that, and there is a reason why we objected. It's not that we don't understand, it's that we understand and don't like it.

See this is why I don't like how these qoutes are set up, becauase I don't know I am really responding to.

Perhaps, I didn't quite know what "pimp hand was strong" means to either of you.

So I will say this, "where I'm", I know exactly what we mean by "pimp hand was strong". And I will just leave it at that.

who said the word "ho" or alluded to that ..Dont put words in someone else mouth ,,you are the first and only person to say that..for the record, i've never referred to any of hios GF's wife, hook up as ho's ..It apprears you do

Really? I totally didn't envision her. I always imagined he was singing to some young girl who he wanted who was carefree and learning about the world, who flirted with him but was kindas stringing him along. That is just what I pictured while listening to the song.

I do remember in Alan Light's book Apollonia telling him that Prince said this song was about them and I was like ...what??? eek Apollonia? I thought they were just buds and professional assoicates but just shows you how much a fan can really know. From her post I learned that their friendship was a lot deeper than I thought.

From the song lyrics though it sounds like he was really trying to get with my girl Apples, (not that I blame him though, if I were a guy I would try to get her too!) lol . That lyric about wanting to lick her kitty clean??? eek That is so Prince. lol unless it was all in a joking, teasing manner and he was trying to make her blush. shrug Prince was such a jokester.

Prince wrote or gave a lot of songs to a lot of people. There is a photo of him and Appolonia on the Purple Rain bike (from the movie) on a singles release I saw of This Could Be Us (maybe the only singles release cover), but I take that to mean that whomever he wrote the song for (maybe no one), "this" (the way they look on the bike) could be what WE could look like.

The night in 2014 he invited her to PP and did the 8-song set including this song, they hadnt seen each other in 30 years.

He was a gracious host (and loved late-night guests), and it was very very sweet of him to give her the song.

I always felt that romantically in those last few years, he hadn't found the woman he was looking for. I think it had been a long time since he had that kind of love. Maybe since Manuela.

But he loved women and was amazing in this way to many of them.

sad Yes he certainly had a way with women. A very rare quality that most men do not possess. I'm sure he made every woman in his orbit feel special and beautiful. I think Mayte alluded to something like that in an interview I read, that he would notice the smallest details about you and make you feel beautiful.

As for not having a love since Manuela, that is unfourtante but I would believe it. He did seem in love with her from what I remember. And more at ease in general. I think she was a good influence on him. But wasn't he with Bria for quiet a while? I don't actually know much about them but I hope he had love since his divorce. That would be a long time to go without love. sad

And thanks for explaining the concept behind the song. That makes much more sense. It just doesn't fit with Apollonia to me. Although she is a strong, independent woman.

I'm glad others were touched by it, but I thought it was odd. It's addressed to Prince, but it sounds more like she's writing it as a book. It's as though she wrote it to prove to the public that she had something special with P. She's telling him we did this and we did that...he already knows what they did...he was there. And why mention the kiss? (To try and prove they had something special...? It was probably a kiss on the cheek...they hadn't seen each other in 30 years. And P liked younger women...ok, I'll stop.) It would have sounded more authentic had she posted something to her Facebook followers and friends about her grieving experience. And some of what she wrote seems unbelievable. Just my honest 2 cents.

I think she's showing they found closure a while ago and were on good terms long before Vanity's funeral. It notes that he seemed to have quite a few one on one intimate talks with a few people of his past, not everyone it seems but those who were willing to make the step. She said a lot without betraying his privacy.

Respectfully, you really need a dictionary, and a history lesson.

To "pimp" something, namely a woman, refers to the idea that men always held the bulk of the cash and all of the power, and they were the real showmen, the pitch men, selling goods; those goods being a woman's body. They drove the nicer cars, wore the nicer clothes, and lived in the nicer homes. Mostly because they used women's bodies to maintain their lifestyle.

To "pimp" a car is to put something out there for people to salivate over and desire, much like they did with women (and even men). It's using one thing to profit for yourself, at the expense of the other thing (or person) being used. So yes, to make something "showy" is to exploit it..or rather to exploit her.

I'm not defending the sanctity of an automobile, but rather trying to enlighten whoever to the fact that "pimp" isn't a term about being expressive. Unless the person is just trying to express that they're a user and a slug. You wanna beef up your car with lights and gadgets - go ahead. But the whole "pimp my..." whatever is really a term I never liked, because so few people chose to understand it, or just ignore how pimps have exploited men and (mostly) women for decades.

yeahthat

It's a bit like white folks trying to use the N word because it has an A on the end of it, instead of ER. It doesn't redefine the word as something less harmful or derogatory with a horrible history attached to it. It redefines the person using it as ignorant.

Nicely put angle. You always are so thoughtful in your posts. You get me thinking. And you are right, romantic love is not the most important thing, he did have friends, and the fans (and we loved him!) and God was always with him. He was loved. heart

Wisdom7, I can see why your screenname is what it is. You know what u see.
I love Appolonia and think she's funny and am grateful for her post but I saw the same thing.
