Personally I thought it was about time she sold the stuff.

How do you move on with a new lovelife, when the man walks in the house and is hit by all things Prince???? It is already a bit intimidating knowing you are his ex-wife to then be confronted with something of a shrine to him.

That aside, I think his deal probably pushed her forward but also set her back a bit. His chapter is over and done. The End. But I don't think she ever got closure WITH him and that love she had is still in her.

She needs to process the good, bad and ugly and free herself from her love for him.

I wish her well (although from that show I still think she is slightly nuts).

why do you think she's nuts exactly?

From the show??? Watch it. She loses it over things that have nothing to do with her and over reacts on other people's business.

I saw the show when it aired and I'd hardly call her nuts. I'd bet we can take snipppets from everyones lives and based solely on those snippets call someone crazy or say that person's overreacting to something, so it's not really fair. Plus, a lot of this stuff is played up for tv.

Yes, it says he died in an elevator left to his own devices leaving both exes to jointly organize a private memorial. I'm not going to pretend I know Mayte and Manuela as intimately as the rest of you.

Not saying any of that so slow your roll. People here like to exalt mayte and demonize manuela (and everybody ekse) like Mayte is some innocent that was kept captive in the Disney Princess castle by the ogre prince . Like seriously this broad is 42. She's grown and needs to act her age not her shoe size.

Still fail to see exactly what Mayte has done wrong in regards to Prince. Seems she's still been in love with this man through all of these years and has had a hard time getting over him and still respecting his memory. *howdareshe*

Don't see the bad in Manuela either , minus a few facebook posts here and there. sigh

i don't see you cancompare the 2 relationships or the 2 men in them. 30 something P, still feeling himself like he's 20 something, grooms a kid and marries her. IF it is true she was pregnant before the wedding, all the good it did her. nevertheless, having children die destroys most marriages in which it happens. PERIOD! that's no one's fault it just is. most men average men run to the hills when that happens, and P was no average man and did the same. how many people do you know that blank their exes for alot less than losing 2 children. And then there's that acid tongued mother in law, Nellie......

+++

Mani is around and starts prentending to be something she's not in order to snare the 40 yo man who has JUST lost 2 children in 2 yrs and is about to lose his dad. this is not the same man MG married. he is considerably shaken and grasping for solid ground- MT plays the role well enough and gets the part. I have never believed that she was pregnant and never(at the time) heard they were expecting. does anyone have a link? if she lost the baby then that might have triggered their separation. As I said back then, the moment P bought the house in Toronto he was checking out, not honeymooning. He bought it after what 2 yrs..... sounds familiar. he bought the house in Marbella after 2 yrs, too. which was meant to start the formal separation process,no? the difference is in the 2 women.

+++

MG was clearly NOT raised to be an independant woman. she herself said that she had been focused on dance and very sheltered all her life. that's why she doesn't know how to live as an adult woman w/out her mother being in her ass. my guess is that nellie ran her life and then handed her off to P. MT had a mind of her own and played her cards differently, hung in there for the last year or 2 even though he wasn't wearing a ring and they weren't seen together, just so she could get whatever prize she got.

+++

apples and oranges. but P essentially left both of them after 2 yrs. he didn't seem that taken with either one of them,imo. but i'm sure he longed for a loving relationship,just didnt know how to have/keep one. remember,he wanted a brat to could boss around === MG. he wanted a more savvy woman === MT. in both cases it turned back against him and bit him on the ass so to speak.

This above is what I'm talking about.. stop painting Manuela as conniving simply because she saw what she wanted and went after it... Prince was a grown man .. if he didn't want her he would have rejected her and gone about his business. From the looks of things he was checking out of that relationship before the kids died.. has anyone ever considered that Mayte may have gotten pregnant to keep him.. and when that didn't work out then the relationship fell apart even faster. Now it's hard to lose a child and having been there it's hard when the two people grieve differently. She may have wanted to see him grieving for her to feel that they shared in the loss of this child..but men - as she learned- grieve differently and throw themselves into their work in order not to dwell on the tragedy. It's sad and I hope she gets the counseling to get herself to a safe space with regard to that but folks need to stop painting Manuela as someone who stole prince . You cannot steal a man. A grown man makes decisions and follows through on them. He made a decision to go off with Manuela. That's it. He was done with the other situation and moved on.

Why was she selling his personal items and such intimate things like notes and China from their wedding a while back... Don't mean to be negative but it doesn't sit well with me sad

I see comments along the lines of 'Mayte tried to sell things Prince gave her = Mayte is a bad person' all the time here so I just want to clarify this...

Yes she did try to sell some items - to raise money for her animal charity. However some items were withdrawn before the auction, including the engagement ring and letters. You can see from the auction house site which items went to auction, and also how many bids were made and the asking and selling price. You will see that very few items were actually sold. Many of the asking prices were ridiculously high, which indicates to me she didn't really want to sell them at all. http://natedsanders.com/C...category=1

I have a feeling she is very glad now that she didn't sell these things and I would honestly be surprised if she tried to sell them again, as I think their sentimental value to her just increased a 100 fold. A cynic may say she's very glad she didn't sell them because they all now hugely multiplied in value. But even if I'm wrong and she does try to sell them again - well, they're still hers to sell, and irrespective of whether the money is going to charity or her own pocket I don't really see how selling personal possessions makes you a bad person. The truth is many people would now want to own these items.

I think that was Sinbad with that bit! haha

I think the comparison with Priscilla here is that after Elvis died many fans thought that Priscilla had no right to act as the grieving widow and take on the role of preserving his legacy as she did. In that case, Priscilla was the one who left Elvis years before and by many accounts broke his heart and left him somewhat lost. So, many fans were not happy with her.

There are some other similarities with the relationships though, like how both Priscilla and Mayte met their future husbands when they were teenagers living in Germany as military brats (in a crazy coincidence they even attended the same high school), moved to Minneapolis/Memphis eventually, waited a few years then both married right around 22 (I think Priscilla was just shy of that age,) both became pregnant right away.

Isn't the reason priscilla took on the Elvis legacy because he left everything to their daughter. I think so. Anyway I think that Mayte being an ex wife rather than a.n ex girlfriend ensures her status as a serious ex partner of Prince.

Yes, I think so. But she still took some grief from fans as Mayte is now, questioning allegiance, true feelings etc.

I don't find Mayte's reaction after his death strange or questionable at all, I should add and I agree with you that Prince and Mayte were big parts of each others' lives so that doesn't just disappear completely even after divorce. I was just pointing out where the comparison probably came from.

He wasn't good with money!!!!!!

.

Elvis's financial situation was a mess when he died and everything was left to a 9 yr old Lisa-Marie and yess Priscilla was a genius and turned it all around..her daughter inherited a multi-million dollar coorporation thanx to her mom..it wasn't worth that when he died, he owed a lot of money bcuz of the way he spent money and was careless...the kid would have had very little if mom hadn't gotten involved and took it all over.

.

She did get some crap by fans but in the end everyone saw how brilliant she was, as a business woman and not only that, she and elvis were on good terms and they raised lisa 2gether after they broke up...they both loved that girl...she wasn't just the (only) Ex wife, she was the mother of his only child whom he loved more than anything.

For instance, the ring and notes and the Mayte/Prince Symbol china were withdrawn. It is also my understanding that before she decided to auction those things, she asked P if it was okay. Evidently he gave his blessing. It's just that they didn't sell. Actually if you think about it, both probably got rid of items that were too painful to hold on to for whatever reason.

Hi Angelsoncrack you are correct but I know she didn't want to get rid of the ring, notes, and the Mayte/Prince symbol china. In fact, they did not sell in the auction because they were withdrawn.. Prince gave his blessing to get rid of them. Just like he gave permission for her to participate on that Hollywood Exes show. She actually called him. Now that to me says a lot about their respect for one another.

If she wanted a "chunk of change" I'm pretty sure she would have gone through with the auction! . Meltedman stated on this site, not sure which thread but I'm pretty sure you can search for it, yes items were up for auction but it was pulled and she kept everything. I understood why she was doing it. Not only to move on from their relationship but for charity as well. Not sure why Mayte gets a bad rap with some fans. I wish people would just leave her alone. I agree I don't understand the hate at all. Prince loved her, he asked her to marry him, they attempted to start a family twice and would have kept trying had life not happened. As he told Spike Lee in the 1997 interviewed, "Mayte keeps me grounded. She accepts me for me and doesn't try to change me. She had made me appreciate life." Does that sound like someone who is sooooooo bad? Love you Prince and RIP

nod ALL of this 100% Especially the last part. All the stuff we speculate about on this site, she lived and knows first hand. I'm sure there's a good bit of stuff she kept that we will know nothing about.

It is also important to note that when a letter is sent, the receiptent of the letter i.e. Mayte is the owner of the letter. Mayte, like Prince, may well undertake many charitable acts which she doesn't feel the need to talk about.
