I'm surprised you were able to find the CD at that price last year. I always remember it being very expensive--selling for at least $50 as far back as copies were available online.

Edit: For example, here is a ten-year-old thread quoting around the same ebay price for the Family CD back then: http://prince.org/msg/5/200922

[Edited 6/20/16 16:15pm]

I got it in a shop called Book Mart on Dublin's Talbot Street. They often have rare, yet cheap Cd's and books. I got Emancipation and the Gett Off maxi single there too. I still have my receipt from that day. I got all those for less than 30 euro.

That's a great deal--especially with the high demand for CDs after Prince died.

Which version of the Family CD was it, German or Japanese?

That's mental. I live in Dublin and am jealous as hell.

I got the Family on vinyl in a free-bin though so that's something.

So I bought the album...

It's pretty good, especially like Over The Canyon, Drummers & Healers and Beautiful You. And Erics little ditty is pretty cool also.

I do feel as if they should've tried to at least attempt one song in the vein of Mutiny or High Fashion. I'm not talking about trying to re-create songs from the past, but just trying to incorporate some of those Time-esque elements that made the first Family album so unique. The Time achieved this on Condensate, but I don't feel as if fDeluxe really capture on Gaslight what made that first album so special. Obviously, the biggest missing ingredient is Prince's lack of involvement, but this didn't hinder The Time on their last record.

You should try AM Static, their covers album. There's some classic Family-sounding covers on it. I especially like their version of Miss You. They have a good live album too but it can be hard to find. I think it's on Spotify though if you want to give it a listen.

Thanks. I'll check it out for sure.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Gaslight, I just think it needed a good nasty, funk track.

Yeah, I agree. Gaslight is good but it's missing a High Fashion or a Mutiny

I'd love to see them live. Their live album is brilliant. That's as close as I'm likely to get to seeing them though... I'd pay big money to see The Family, The Time and The Revolution in concert. They should tour together. They won't, for some reason. But they SHOULD.

They are ok. Sort of grown up funk/rnb played by midle aged white folks. Nothing wrong with that. But perhaps not terribly exiting?

Uhhh, hey bruh. C'mere a minute.

comfort

They're all middle aged. Prince was dead at a mere 57. You think everyone is eternally 26 and stuck in leather & lace circa 1984? If anything, their age and life experience has made Gaslight an even better record, than if they had immediately had a follow up in 1986 or 1987 at Paisley Park. Prince wishes he could have produced this wrecka!

lol

Unfortunately some do. I can relate a little because I have a tendency sometimes think even

after 30 years the artists I grew up listening to looks the same from not seeing them after

a lot of time have passed. You're right all the artists from the 70's and 80's are middle aged

now.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

But those songs were already done. Why do them again? That was 25 years ago.

31 years ago if you want to be precise. But good is good so I wouldn't care if it was 100 years ago. I'm not suggesting they should do the same song again. But the same type of song would be nice. Something in the same style.
