What do you think of Mazarati's "100 MPH"?

I don't know if this topic should be in the Music: Non-Prince forum. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok, so guys, what do you think of Mazarati's "100 MPH" jam? I love it. It's one of my favourite Prince-penned songs. The extended version has one of the best instrumental intros.

I just thought this was a Prince song. The only version I had of this has Prince singing on it. Just downloaded the Mazarati version now. I think I prefer the Prince version, even though the sound quality is a bit shit on the one I have.

And that's why it belongs in Music and More. I know the OP was uncertain about the appropriate forum, and clearly langbleu made a call on this already, but I'm gonna argue against the call. Non-Prince involving work by associated artists... okay, that shouldn't be in the Music and More--but stuff he recorded? Half the time threads about things like this are largely really discussions about Prince's contributions to the tracks, or comparisons with his versions (if they're circulating).

You just went and saw Morris and his crew? Fine. That belongs here. You wanna discuss Robin's latest video? Fine, not Prince's music or his more. Carmen Electra photos? Okay, don't block up the M&M forum. Wendy and Lisa news? If it's not a Revolution reunion with the man himself, sure, put it here. Then if we're interested in it, we can come here.

But if it's music he made, or songs he wrote, I think the discussion belongs on the main forum. Regardless of the name (or even the voice) on the track.

It's a Prince recording. We all know that. It's his work. And many people don't even look at this forum (or at least don't seem to, based on the conversations that occur over here). Mostly because many orgers are not interested in the associated artists for their own work, just when they are involved with Prince directly--which is the case with this thread's subject.

But, whatever. Thread's almost doomed to die now that it's been moved to the equivalent of Friday night on a network TV schedule.

Of course, if you look at the latest news on the front page there hasn't been Prince-related music released since October 23rd... even though there's been four things in the last week (in order of my interest): Andy and Prince's Qui Can Luv album, Prince's If Eye Can Get Ur Attention, P & 3EG's Crazy2Cool stream on the Current, and yet another snippet of a performance of Stratus. Everyone of those needs some sort of prominent place on the main forum, for at least a week or so, just to make sure everyone knows about them. Certainly as much as the individual HITNRUN tracks did.

The Andy/Prince thing on M&M is a thread started before anyone knew what was really happening, and many people thought it was just going to be the same single track that streamed years ago. I'm not saying everybody ultimately will love what was released... but, no clarification of title after the fact? Or a new thread? And I suspect that if somebody started a thread on M&M saying "HEY, THERE WAS A PRINCE AND ALBUM RELEASED LAST WEEKEND!!! LET"S TALK ABOUT IT!!!" it would be either locked as a "duplicate" of the other thread that completely fails to draw attention because of its at-the-time-sensible but now-misleading title, or (because Andy's name is on the thing) it would be moved here (or even locked and people directed to the "Andy Allo acoustic album" thread--which is fine, except that (if you don't already know what it is) it doesn't at all indicate from the title that the album in question is a PRINCE one, and not just some Andy Allo album without Prince involvement. Which would mean for many orgers "not of any interest to me" whereas they would care if the actual situation were made clearer. And easier to see on the Music & More forum that many more orgers frequent.

But as to 100 MPH? I don't care much for it. I do get the melody for the verses in my head rather often, but I don't like when it happens. Usually with the lyrics about Dorothy making love to the lion, "Because, because, because...", and nobody wants to accidentally burst out with that in public.

Whereas "Kiss" & "Jerk Out" didn't work out in Mazarati's favor, I give them the edge w/"100 MPH"!!!

I agree that ANYTHING involving Prince playing/composing music should be in M&M. If Prince was creatively involved it's Prince music even if he worked with others.

Associated should be for non-Prince related project by Prince associates or discussing their career as a whole. But an Andy Allo album with P on guitar on every track or a Prince-penned song by Mazarati is discussing P's music as far as I'm concerned.
