Is Judith Hill the new Tamar? And what is the difference?

Very very similar. I wonder if she talked to Tamar before all this. Good singer but I am not inlove with her voice and I dont see anything remarkable about her - just like Tamar.

I've never understood the disdain for Tamar here, I always enjoyed her voice...

.

Major difference so far... Judith's album was just 'released'. Tamar's was shelved.

Judith has:

1) larger (Prince independent) fan base

2) better connected

3) better songwriter

4) better album

5) she seems more natural and less forced on the stage. Tamar always gave me the impression she was acting on the stage, to get people interested and animated.. Judith has more projection that she naturally belongs there.

.

I like Tamar btw, so Im not hating on her, but as much as I wanted to like her Prince produced album it only had 2-3 tracks that resonated with me.

Change it one more time..

Hill has many goals?

about 6:30 she lists her favorite artists (including P)

and about 4:43 she talks about her goals (seems like she doesn't have all her eggs in Prince's basket, which Tamar may have had.........plus, I think Prince was banging Tamar)

Hill also did the soundtrack for Red Hook Summer by Spike Lee

If Judith is smart, she won't allow herself to be thought of as "another Prince protege".If that's the perception that people have of her,she won't last long at all. We've seen what happened to the others (Tamar,Andy,Bria, etc).

It's wonderful that Prince produced a few tracks and is giving her some guidance, but she will need to make it on her own,out of the purple shadow,in order to be taken seriously.

Judith has a more powerful voice.

I really liked Tamar working with Prince. I wish BLB had been released.

I'm a little wary of Judith working with Prince ... for Judith's sake. She doesn't really need the Prince connection. Given his past, there's an upside to working with him but a larger downside, if you're a female singer. For band members, it's a different story -- upside is much greater than the down for them.

Exactly. When you think about it,Sheila E. was probably the last truly successful female Prince protege. All of the others faded away really quickly. That's why it would be to Judith's benefit to do her own thing and not allow herself to become "just another Prince protege".
