Rosie was in his band, how did he prize her 'less'? Rosie left on her own because she didn't like being in the band.

I recall an interview Rosie did in the 90s.She was upset that her planned album on Paisley Park Records was being delayed."I'm not sleeping with Prince,so that's why my album ain't coming out",she said eek Apparently, she was pissed that Carmen Elektra was a priority at Paisley Park, while Rosie was being pushed aside. She quickly got out of the Paisley Park deal and signed with Motown.

Jill Jones on the unfinished second Paisley Park album: We (Jones and Prince) were kind of were at two different roads. The song (“Boom Boom”) was from 1982 and it seemed forced. He kept remixing it. I went to do the video, but, it was late, it was too late. And I just ended up going back to New York, got married and waited until my contract expired. During this time he called me-- and I was at a friend's house-- and said, "you don't have any charisma, you should dye your hair black and you need to get breast implants like Brigitte Nielsen." I was furious... Dickens (CEO of Warner Brothers UK) was instrumental at one point with Roger Davies, my manager, when we were trying to complete my second album alone. Without Prince. But, Prince rejected every attempt we tried.

.

jeeez, that is an unflattering story

disbelief This is exactly why I said being a Prince protege wasn't always a good idea.Prince tries to mold people into the image that HE wants to see.He doesn't allow these people to be themselves.I've heard that "Boom Boom" song and it's obvious that Prince wanted Jill to be just another sexy bimbo with no real point of view. That song is a waste of Jill's considerable talents.Jill really should have used her Motown connections and worked with Teena Marie instead.

Blaming Prince is pure bullshit. Others have proven this.

I've said this before: Prince is a musical genuis, but he's always been a poor manager of other artists.

In 1984,after the Time broke up,he formed two bands (The Family and Mazarati) and tried to groom them for success. Both bands released one album then quickly broke up.

Not quite true about Mazarati since they released another album a few years later on Motown featuring songs by Bernadette Cooper. I didn't see any reason for them to hang around once Brownmark left and I got the impression that they were his guys and signed to Paisley Park only through him.

IF THIS IS TRUE, it is not a lie. Jill Jones had no charisma. IN fact, she was never special enough to be a solo act of any note. It always tickles me how these artists that claim Prince held them back so they leave and are never really heard of again. If they are that good, they should get noticed and do something of relevance AFTER Prince. Whether tey decide it was torture after the fac tor not, having Prince on their resumes can only help them in the music business. I noticed the real players that Prince has worked with have actually gone on to do something worthy of attention.

Right - as I said, blaming Prince is bullshit. Either you are good enough to make it after Prince or you are not.

The point I was trying to make is....Prince wasn't a good manager for these acts.Look at what happened with The Time.At the height of their popularity,he fires Jam and Lewis and the band breaks up.Look what happened with The Family.A great concept, but the whole thing falls apart a few months after their album is released. Most of the other acts on Paisley Park put out one album then disappeared. Is that all just a coincidence?

How was Jill Jones (who actually has talent) expected to thrive in that kind of environment?

If you're a female artist, being a former Prince protege can actually hurt your chances at having future success.People don't take these ladies seriously. The same thing could happen to Judith Hill.

I'd say that only applied 2 those with marginal talent.

Hill has talent.

Get my Jill Jones CD out today and it struck me the same way it did when I bought the album back in the 80s: she really cant sing worth a damn. She was one of many hot chicks with marginal talent that Prince propped up with great music and production. Believe it or not, Vanity's voice is far more enjoyable to me. In fact, her Motown albums have some half way decent vocal moments. I always thought she got criticized for her sainging a little bit too much. Jill Jones, on the other hand, is a mystery to me. She doesnt even strike me as a good backup singer even though she obviously did it with Prince and others like Teena Marie.

falloff Jill Jones is one of the few Prince proteges who could actually sing. Her problem is that her career was mishandled by Prince, but she has talent.

I love Vanity, but she has never been able to sing biggrin On her Wild Animal album, all we hear from her is squealing and screeching....but you cannot call it singing.Let's be honest....she and Apollonia became stars strictly because of their looks, not their vocal talent.

Apollonia: Pretty Face + Boob scene = Star!

i don't know anything about jill jones, but even if she's nothing special, it doesn't make prince right to stop her from doing what she wants to do.

.

it sounds like you think so highly of prince that you assume that anyone who works with him should be nothing but extremely grateful for the opportunity. There are many people with first hand experience who say it isn't all so wonderful. Why not just trust that these people are being honest and not being bitter or whiney?

.

And let's not overlook the fact that telling someone to they have no charisma and should get breast implants can be very offensive...

Hill has talent, but so does Rosie Gaines and we see what happened there.

It's unfair, but the general public doesn't take these women seriously. The atttiude is "Oh,they worked with Prince...HE did everything",lol.

Exactly.By telling Jill that she has "no charisma" and that she should get "breast implants".....that just shows you what Prince really wanted Jill to be: a sexpot singer with big boobs and an aggressive, sexual image. In other words,he wanted Jill to be another Vanity or Apollonia. It's sad that he didn't appreciate what Jill had: actual talent. That should have been enough.Soon after all this happened,Prince began doing this same, tired act with Carmen Elektra. She became the puppet that Jill refused to be.
