Brenda Bennett: 2015

Remember This 80s R&B Singer? See What This “Nasty Girl” Is Doing Now!

brenda bennett blog pic

You might not recognize this 80’s R&B singer today, but trust us, you ABSOLUTELY know her from back in the day. Wait ’til you see what this self-proclaimed “nasty girl” is doing now!

Just close your eyes and put yourself in the early to mid 80’s and think sexy. Do the Mary Jane Girls come to mind? Well, not them. How about his royal purple? You got it – the girls Prince made happen. No, not “Wendy & Lisa”. Try VANITY 6…she was amember of that group (and later Appolonia 6) and her real name is Brenda Bennet.

Yes, really bad.

Only maintream audiences like that kinda crap.

+

Indy audiences hate that kinda crap.

+

Mainstream audiences won't ever get to hear it in the first place without a major's support.

=

Big miscalculation from Brenda's part. She had better get back to doing country as she did a few years back, or whatever, but not radio-friendly crap the radio won't ever play because no major to support it.

I don't mean to dis Brenda, I'm sure she can come up with something cool if she wants to, she just was misleaded on that one.

I dont know much about the attitude of Mrs Bennett but judged by the above photography she is rather Country than Dance-Pop. However, I wish her nth but the best and I would like to see her reunite with Susan & Vanity one day to bring back this fucking, rocking, purple E.F.U.N.K.! Kind of a Vanity 2.o15 or Apollonia 69. Ok, silly little dude up there in MPLS would never allow that (see The Family = FDeluxe, The Time = The Original7). Nevertheless, dreams are fee and mine are wild when it comes to music .... razz

I don't think Vanity would reunite with the group (lol),but an Apollonia 6 reunion is more likely.

But could you please link to the original article when quoting something from another site?

Sadly I think your right. Apollonia is a weak replacement for the real thing.

She has aged very well good skin, no wrinkles. She looks unrecognisable almost prettier.

To do what?

55 year-old women singing "Happy Birthday Mr. Christian" in underwear?

The problem with V6/A6 is that it was a concept, it's not like they can get dressed and sing those songs anyway, it'd make virtually no sense because they almost all have outrageous lyrics and it was pretty obvious from scratch that they'd never evolve into a "normal" girls band after those 2 albums. I mean IDK, I'm not sure I wanna see 55 year old women sing "I want 7 inches or more" more than I'd like to see Prince sing Head or ejaculate with his guitar while wearing a string on stage in 2015. It's not like there's an age limit, but not everyone is Peaches or Iggy Pop, with most people it'd just be plain ridiculous. Look at Madonna for chrissakes, even her can't manage to be taken seriously doing that shit at 57.

And as for doing new songs, it's not like Apples and Susan have been prolific songwriters ever since, + Prince wouldn't let 'em use the band name anyway. I think The O7 or fDeluxe made sense because they could compose brand new material and had a career of their own anyway so even without the old bandname it was OK. Mazarati even was at least a real band. But here we have Apples who released a dance album in 88, Brenda a country album in the 2000's and a few dance singles ever since, and Susan who has done nothing at all since 1984 (as a musician). I really don't see where an A6 reunion could be going. AT ALL.

Nonsense.Any old group from the 80s could easily reunite and there would be an audience for them today. In my area,we have something called the Super Freestyle Explosion concert coming up.It features a bunch of dance/freestyle artists on the bill, including several 'one hit wonder' acts (J.J. Fad,Nu Shooz,Shannon). And it's not like Apollonia 6 would have to get onstage in lingerie again...lol...they can put on some nice evening gowns and no one would complain. We're all older now.We know that we can't do everything that we used to do 35 years old,LMAO.My point is,if Nu Shooz could reunite in 2015 and cash in on their one hit single (1985's "I Can't Wait"),then I see no reason why Apollonia 6 couldn't do it....if they really wanted to.

Yeah, look at Madonna...being herself, still being outrageous and selling out arenas/stadiums all over the world lol Her new album features a song ("Holy Water") about oral sex.I don't get this crazy attitude that, just because you're in your 50s,you can't have sex and enjoy yourself anymore.

Nobody expects them to sing Mr. Chistian or Nasty Girl! But what about Vibrator or Make Up? Surely a timeless topic, isnt it? wink Btw, who wants these classic songs anyway. Me, I was talking new music. Otherwise I sign what SoulAlive says here, talking sex shouldnt be limited to the youngsters like Funk isnt sth for the older generation only.
