Sheila E on Queen Latifah - time catching up

I always loved Sheila and she is still beautiful - but time has definitely caught up with her. She looked every bit her age on Queen Laftifah.

I saw Sheila E at her book signing in Chicago in December and I thought she looked great. No way she looks like most 57 year olds.

Have you noticed that it's mostly female artists who must deal with ageism? Paul McCartney is 71 and doing songs with Kanye West....no one says anything about his age.

I guess female artists are supposed to retire and hang it up after 45 or so.

I think it's worse now than in the 80s... There were lots of "older" artists (including women) making music and gettting airplay as well as the younger artists, from what I remember.

From the clips I've seen on youtube, Sheila radiates.... she appeared upbeat and approachable. She and Queen Latifah exchanged plenty of laughs. She asks Sheila at one point about what she said in her book about, at one time, being so "famous" that she couldn't leave her house because people would recognize her everywhere and it actually became quite confining. Sheila said to Queen L. something like, "We'll you must know what that's like," and Latifah said "Not so much. I just try not to smile, but then when I do, I get these big full cheeks that give me away and someone will point and say, 'Hey - you must been Queen Latifah!'"

Also at one point in the interview, Queen Latifah acts surprised to find out that Sheila and Prince were at one time engaged. She asks the audience, "I didn't know that - did you all know that?" Most of the audience (it seems) DID know that... but it gave Sheila an opportunity to plug some of the details she's written about in her book. Sheila summarizes that they were playing "Purple Rain" and at one point in the song, Prince asked her to marry him while they were performing. Again - it was all a pleasant interview and I think Sheila E. reflects class and earned respect. She may be 50-something, but her appearance was light-hearted, she seems to be feeling great these days, and - in my opinion - looks fantastic! Her POSITIVITY has always been something she brings to the table, whether she's talking with fans, performing, writing a book, or chatting on a talk show.

(I have fingers crossed that Sheila will surprise us all and appear as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars! What could possibly be next for Sheila E.?!?!)

I agree, there were a lot of successful grown women to look up to when I was a kid in the 80s.
Aside from the women in music there was also the actresses.

She not only looks great but she sings and performs great! A few years ago, I saw her and I was so taken by her performance, that the only thing that I could think to say to her was thank you for the music, please sign the drumsticks, and you make me wanna go back to the gym... nuts razz lol I still have the backward signed drum sticks...

"Oh Prince. The one that got away"......THIS. Still sexy and beautiful. Saw copies of her book today. Almost bought it but I saw the new Bobby Womack bio down the shelf. I love the record store 'meet and greet' picture of Shelia with Micheal Jackson (circa 79).
