Hannah and Lisa

The Hannah hate has to stop and here's why. Everyone's precious "Dream Factory" that was never released would have been a hot ass record. We all know it. Some of us may own a version of it. But it never "was" and that just heightens its cool factor. But in reality it would have had at least one song with Lisa on vocals. "She Wants A Place In Heaven". It would have been thin sounding vocal wise as Lisa is no scary vocalist. It would have also been awesome as shit. Do you think if "Dream Factory" saw the light of day that critics would be saying "The record is great but why would he put Lisa on vocals?" Let's say he released it finally after Lisa and Wendy left and had Rosie Gaines sing on the record. It would have been a different song and it would have been shitty. It would have been Rosie running all over the melody "She wants a place, wants a place, waaaants waaaants waaaaaaaaaaaants a pluh-aaayaace!!!" And the simple melody of the song would clash with Rosie's strong, overbearing vocals. (Psst.... I feel the same way about her overpowering "Nothing Compares 2 U"'s simplicity)

Now imagine that same idea on Plectrum. The most consistent critique is the female vocals. Hannah has a thin vocal yes, but it works for this rock sound. She sounds vulnerable. She sounds raw. And nobody else could have sang those songs. Would you all be digging this record if Rosie was on it and sang "If it hurts, if it hurts, if it hururuururuurururts this bad by daw-wah-wah-wahn...!"? But Hanna makes these unique little rock numbers that is the "Dream Factory" of the new millennium. Stop the hate, this record rocks. Hannah rocks. Lisa would have rocked too if he had the sack to release "Dream". Show your love.

I wish u heaven

The problem here is not hannah's singing skills but many people's lack of understanding of music and creative process. There's an obsession to many fans here about who's singing: "if Prince sings I like it and it's a Prince album, if it's instrumental or not Prince singing I don't like it and/or it's not a true Prince album". From a musical perspective this is as absurd as saying "John Blackwell plays the drum instead of Prince on TRC, so I hate that album and it's not a genuine Prince album". Lack of education is the problem here rolleyes

Don't you prefer Pinrce's (vocal) version of She Wants A Place In Heaven?

Other than that, sometimes you need an other singer (and/or arrangement) to bring out the brilliance of a song, cf Sinéad O'Conner and Nothing Compares 2 U.

Not sure I'd like Hannah's songs if prince sang them either tbh. I don't like Liv Warfield's singing on The Unexpected and much prefer Wow but doesn't mean she's a bad singer (far from it).

You can't blame a Prince fan for wanting to hear Prince sing!

Lisa's voice kinda suited the airy melodiousness of that track, tho P's vocal was better.

Why bother imagining Rosie Gaines doing "A Place in Heaven"?? A Revolution track? Different singer, different era, who brought something new and awesome. Its odd to try to imagine former band members singing others' songs as a defence of Hannah's shrill vocal.

Hannah's vocal is unlistenable to me, sorry. Releasing "Dream Factory" has nothing to do with having "sack". And Rosie wasn't "overbearing" and was P's most formidable NPG band member.

Always hated the Lisa version of APIH and always hated Sinead's NC2U

If Sinéad O'Conner had not covered Nothing Compares 2U do you think P would have resurected it at any time? I doubt we would have heard it again.
