Section leader and horn arranger for Prince has a new album out and it is FUNKY...

Hey everybody - I know we are all listening to PE and AOA and that's cool - but those of us who are thirsty for the hornz are still on standby. Wanted to let you guys know about the guy who is actually working with Prince on horn arrangements - he has his own music and you should check him out!

You can find him at

http://philiplassiter.com/

or on Facebook at

https://www.facebook.com/philip.lassiter.1?fref=nf

He worked on Big City and also did the arrangement for (the much talked about) Mutiny on the Arsenio Hall Show as well as a lot of other very cool stuff.

I have been a member here for over 12 years and I post occasionally but for Phil I wanted to take some time and write a nice post smile I have known him for many years and we got together recently and I told him about the org and how many people were actually talking about his arrangements, etc and he was very excited to hear it. He wants to reach out and interact with us more so this is the start...we hope to get him on some podcasts and facebook chats, etc so we can all discuss not only his music but what it is like to work in the NPG smile

The easiest way to check out his music is to go here:

For some good examples of the hornz listen to the intro to That Girl track 3 on the Philty album and also his latest album Dreamzz especially the new single Strut (track 4) and the Egyptian stylings of "Nobody Knows" (track 12). Actually just check it all out! These are all real horns, real strings, etc so it sounds fantastic smile

If you like it - buy it - spread the word - whatever you want - but please take some time to listen to this - you will hear the influences - the horns, the funk, etc that we all love.

Another cool thing is you can actually watch Phil and his group working on the arrangements on video at:

Anyway please check this all out when you get a chance - Phil is a very talented guy so I am trying to spread the word!

Yes the breakdown at the end of "Strut" (video link above) with the horns and strings accompanied by the chants is pretty awesome. The horn part at 5:09 has an NPG feel and I love it!

Phil has been nominated for Washington DC artist of the month - you can vote for him here:

Vote here

and good write up of his work with Prince and others is on the front page:

Front page write up and bio

Take a few seconds and vote for the man that has helped bring us the cool horn arrangements we love! The vote is very close - less than 10 votes separating the winner - so every vote counts! We need your help!
