3RD EYE GIRL ERA

While we wait for the release of PLECTRUMELECTRUM, it seems like Prince is trying to make another memorable band like The Revolution and New Power Generation and create a time period that signifies a creative rebirth with a young band late in his career. He's a in a position to make history late in his career. With a cohesive album with this band and a new tour with the band playing different tunes, this band could have a great legacy. I would love to see this band together for 5 years and release 3 albums. 3 albums is enough material to go on before the members embark on their individual endeavors apart from Prince. If Prince can keep Shelby J on payroll for 7 years, this crew of Donna Grantis, Ida Nielsen, Hannah and Joshua Welton and Trevoe Guy can be given some years to come into their own.

Many people have compared 3RD EYE GIRL to Tin Machine, David Bowie's rock band late in his career, which got him out of a rut. After the disappointing album of 20TEN and tunes like "Rich Friends", "Aint Gonna Miss You" and "Purple And Gold", I hope PLECTRUMELECTRUM is a springboard for more collaborative albums using the entire band.

Shelby for another 7 years? You want this band together for another five years?
I do like Donna, but I prefer a more serious approach to his concerts and albums. These singles are horrible. A few live shots of the old songs are the only saving grace of his new act.

NO, NO, NO! I was saying that if Prince could keep Shelby J in his band, who contributes relatively nothing substantial to his music, then surely he can keep MUSICIANS in his band for at least 5 years. I think an album is the best way to accurately judge this band's music. I would love to see him record some songs with Andrew Gouche and the NPG Hornz but his focus is on 3EG.

Respectfully, I completely disagree with U. 3EG is mediocre and hasn't improved much since they formed, IMHO. I'd like the album 2 come out soon, 4 them to do some final shows, and then disband. The past year of endless teasers and random live dates has been what I call "prolonged agony". The promo surrounding 3EG is sub-par -- the website hasn't been updated in months! I don't think that 3EG is attracting many new followers, so I have a feeling that the new album will probably sell as few copies as LotusFlow3r or Planet Earth.

Prince & The NPG with the NPG Hornz is so much more energized. I can't believe I'm writing that seeing as back when the NPGMC polled fams about what direction Prince should take, I voted that he should take a rock direction. I'm now feeling that he should just stick with the funk direction as he seems to enjoy being the "band leader" and getting the crowd grooving.

OK, I've been a David Bowie fan since 1979 and I feel that the only similarity between Tin Machine and 3EG is that many fans of these artists scratched their heads as 2 what was the reason 4 these rock band projects. 4 the most part, Tin Machine's first kick at the can in 1988-89 was a commercial failure. So much so that in 1990, Bowie did his massive Sound + Vision Tour where he claimed 2 every media outlet everywhere that that tour would be the last time ever that he'd play his hits (sound familiar when it comes 2 Prince's claims about playing the "hits for the last time"??). Neither Bowie nor Prince have kept their promises 2 retire the hits.

Finally, I love 20TEN and I love Shelby.

I could take the NPG if Prince ditched the background singers and got a funk drummer (sorry Hannah). With the NPG, I understand Prince relishes the bandleader role, but the NPG shows seem bloated. Half the time, he lets the backup singers go H.A.M. on the mic while Prince lays back. At least with 3EG he is front and center. As much as I dig 3EG, with the exception of Ida, this band isn't good at improvisation. They have been playing the same tunes for a year.

Kind of true.

However if you look at Bowies OUtside tour? or his later tours he doesn't so much do the hits he is doing his favourites.

He doesnt do, 'Starman' 'Space Oddity' Lets Dance etc. So therefore i think he cleverly weaved in the odd hit song after doing some other stuff.

Listen to their early show boots compared to the recent UK shows. A world of a difference. They've definitely gotten tighter, better more difficult arrangements and neither Donna nor Hannah sound as lost as they used to.

Change it one more time..

EXACTLY! It's cool that Prince IS a member of 3RD EYE GIRL. Unlike previous bands, Prince And The Revolution, Prince And New Power Generation, this band according to Hannah, the project will have songs written by different members. The New Power Generation band is interchangeable. Members come and go. 3RDEYEGIRL is a band that fans can get to know

Tin Machine was a democratic unit, I doubt 3EG is. People also tend to forget that Tin Machine, back then, wasn't so well recieved by critics, to the point that Bowie cancelled the planned release of their second live album and quickly switched back to his own solo career, which he had never really interrupted anyway since he released a greatest hits album and did a greatest hits tour between 2 TM albums. TM did a lot of good to Bowie himself because it allowed him to feel legitimate again, but it was a minor episode in his career and public perception of his work.

I like the fresh new start, though, but I c it more of a side project à la Madhouse than anything else.

So far 3RDEYEGIRL is a collaborative unit. "Plectrum Electrum" was written by Donna Grantis, "Live Out Loud" was written by Liv Warfield and "FIXURLIFEUP" was written by Hannah Ford. The songwriting of the members is no worse than "Everybody Loves Me" from 20TEN, "Rich Friends" and "Purple and Gold". At this stage in his career, Prince has accomplishes SO MUCH. Musically, it allows Prince to "let if fly" in the studio and go for what he knows. Even if it's for one album (although I hope they stick around for more than one album), he challenged himself and gave the one-man band approach a break.
