Dez D.

Would someone describe Dez Dickerson's book? How much of the book relates to his time with Prince? Does he talk about recording sessions? Tour bus antics? Want to read more from Dez beyond what's been quoted in other Prince books.

As Dez says in the introduction to 'My Time With Prince':

"This is not a book about Prince this is the story of my experience in working with him from 1978-1983."

He also explains that it is not an expose, nor is it a documentary.

It is a series of positive recollections in chronological order in 38 short chapters.

Yes, it does describe various antics, rehearsals, touring, performances, video shoots etc.. There is some discussion of him recording for his own projects and he refers to the recording of the solo on 'Little Red Corvette'. For a large part, though, Prince recorded mostly on his own - so Dez's time in the studio for the '1999' album, for example, is described as only amounting to about 2 hours.

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Anybody got a PDF file? Or willing to share the tidbits on what he says when Brownmark joined? I'm tempted to order the book but I've read to many stories of long waiting periods and follow up emails sent on the order status.

.

It's a frustrating read. There should have been an editor to streamline and structure those chapters, and there should have been someone providing Dez with questions about events from that era, details etc.
