Nicely done. Love Margaret's voice. Funny... two of my favorite female voices from the MPLS funk scene are white girls -- Margie and Lisa Keith. They both had distinct voices that stood out on anything they took part in. Good to hear Margie doesn't hold any grudges against Jesse or Prince. Would've loved for the MC Flash project to actually be released back in 1990, not to mention a third Ta Mara album. Margie got robbed on more of the public hearing her phenomenal voice. Too bad she was never able to secure another record contract. Thanks for the interview!

Gotta love a person who takes responsibility for her own career and decisions - good or bad. nod

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Thanks for reading. I've been trying to get that interview since March. I'm glad that we finally got a chance to talk. It was a lot of fun and I am a very big fan of her work.

Good interview."Standing At The Altar" is an incredible song....one of the best songs that Prince ever wrote and produced for someone. That song alone should have re-ignited her career and gave her a second chance at a major label deal.

It's also one of my favourites too, awesome song.

I was in a record shop yesterday and, without actually searching it, I found the Ta Mara and the Seen album. Great find!

I'm a big Prince fan, but I'd never heard of Margaret Cox before.

To tell you the truth, I only knew (and loved) the song "Standing At The Altar", which was released on the 1-800 New Funk album. I didn't knew this Ta Mara and the Seen combo, I only did thanks to this thread. I was very lucky to find the album last Saturday on a Madrid record shop.

Thx smile

I was a bit disappointed by this one as well as ST. Paul's, are they getting shorter or what? I soooo wish Margie would have gotten into more details regarding the recording of that MC Flash album, which is a quite undocumented side-project ^^

I thank u nonethess, I learned things I didn't know in that interview and same goes for Paul's, so keep up the good work biggrin

I know that, as a writer, everyone will not always be enamored of everything I write. I'm okay with that. I've been lucky so far.
But, thanks for the feedback.

As a whole I'm a MASSIVE fan of these interviews! But of course every once in a while I'm like "oh why didn't she ask that" or "oh why doesn't the interviewee give more details about this". That doesn't change anything to the fact that u r establishing a wonderful series of P-related interviews, and that I love reading them smile

I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say I love what you're doing. It's a real treat to hear from these guys all these years later. The Gayle Chapman and Jill Jones interviews were particularly wonderful.

Yes.

And she owns her own house! That's pretty good, knowing that she wasn't rich.

Nice to read she doesn't look back in anger. Not to others and not to herself. She can accept that life is not perfect. Respect for that.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Awesome thanks smile

I agree with Ms Cox, Affecttion is my favourite Ta Mara track, it's a classic, very sexy and strong. The first album is great though, Summertime Love, Thinking About You, Long Cold Nights and the b-side You Turn Me Up - great stuff, they deserved a little more success than they had.

Yeah, I really liked this interview and the impression she gave of taking responsibility for her own career and actions, and being at peace with her career now, just happy continuing to make a living playing music.
Notably, she regrets breaking off the contract/ connection with Jesse by arguing with him and being prideful - many/most associated artists featured in this forum do not regret their arguments, they continue to blame the other (usually, Prince) for the argument and the decline of their career, as if blaming will make their career and finances come back to life at this point. And also, she regrets leaving her contract with Prince.
She seems to have a very realistic and objective view of her abilities and star-power, unlike again many/most associated artists in this forum who seems to think their genius was robbed and used by another (usually, by prince). That's refreshing. And makes me respect her achievements more, because the vast majority of musicians can't achieve what she has done and continues to do.
Thanks for these interviews!

Another nice piece. Thanks again.

I've been a fan of her voice. I loved the Minneapolis sound then. Everyone was coming out with the jams. Affection has always been my favorite song from her. You can really hear her voice on that one. She's right, she kept it light and airy on Everybody Dance, but it made a fun party song. Both were played a lot, and favorites of mine when they came out. I do love her voice. Good to know that she's still singing and doing what she loves. thumbs up! to Margaret, and to Dyes for the interview.
