Andy Blames Ledisi for Spreading Sept. 20 Release Date

http://www.ebony.com/ente...y-allo-008 (If someone knows how to post the full article, please do.)

EBONY: There was talk of a September 20 release date for Superconductor. What is the expected drop time?

AA: We just secured a release date: November 20th 2012. The record will be sold on the Allo Evolution Online Store. “People Pleaser” will be coming out; that will be available. What had happened was (she says chuckling) Ledisi is such a great friend and such a beautiful artist. She visited us here at Paisley Park and listened to some of the music from the record. She listened to Superconductor. She loved it. She was so excited. So, I think the next day she posted online how she had listened to the songs and absolutely loved them. She said, at the end of her post, “It’s coming out September 20.”

Ummm....is Andy serious? Does she not remember the Superconductor website that displayed the Sept. 20 date in bold black letters for months? I really don't think it was cool for her to use her and Prince's "great friend" Ledisi as the scapegoat. Really Unfresh... disbelief

The title is of the thread is pretty misleading. Certainly the way Andy Allo worded the response to the interviewer's questions, makes it seem like Andy is passing the buck, but I'm sure Ledisi is not going to get offended and catch feelings. Let's move the fuck on.

The title of the thread is not misleading and in no way indicates that Ledisi is offended. Those are your words, not mine. The title indicates exactly what is in Andy's response. In essence she blamed Ledisi by saying that the Sept. 20 date came about by Ledisi's excitement over hearing the album and subsequent jumping-the-gun in her good-natured attempt to promote Andy's album. That's false.

It would have been better to just say that her promo team initially thought they would be able to support a Sept. 20 release date, but unanticipated circumstances caused them to push the date back.

We don't know how Ledisi feels about being the scapegoat for Prince and Andy's promotional follies in a magazine with a circulation of more than 1.2 million (much of which is Ledisi's target audience)---and we'll never know because Ledisi is a class act.

Being a class act does not mean Ledisi cannot have a response. Maybe she already responded. She has every right, because AA was very wrong in her actions.

Oh I agree with you. She would be justified in having a response. I just doubt that we will hear it. I'm sure Ledisi values her relationship with Prince so she'll most likely just take one for the team.

disbelief

There's no need for Ledisi to respond since no one is going to know who she's talking about.

Which brings me to an ultimate question: How did this literal nobody in the music business get an interview with Ebony in the first place? There's no hyped album out. No Twitter mania. No YouTube videos. No performance awards received. No popularity or acclaim whatsoever (with none being garnered for all of this blatant affectation in the future either). Yet somehow a spotlight on a top magazine's website (and likely even in the printed publication itself) has been earned.....

Go back & read all the articles on Funkenberry's site about Andy Allo leading up to the September 20th date. In every article he references September 20th as the release date.

As the official mouthpiece for Prince and Andy, if the date was incorrect don't you think he would have been told to remove it from the articles? Instead it was regurgitated in 3-4 articles. So it WAS the date given and Prince, as usual, failed to deliver because no label wants to release this shit.

This is just more passing the buck and finding a scapegoat for Prince's incompetent business practices. Typical. And the fact Andy plays into it shows what a Bird Brain she truly is. I thought she was different but she is just another "Prince chick" with no mind of her own. Another puppet.

The most offensive thing in the article to me is the fact they refer to her as a "guitarist". Get the fuck outta here with that. If by guitarist you mean, 'let me stand on a stage and pretend to strum this thing I am holding in my hand when it is obvious on video what I am strumming does not go along with the music at all and cannot be heard' then yeah.

Oh, come on. You know how it happened. They talked to her in exchange for "a player to be named later." In other words, they'll get an interview with Prince, at some point.

I hear you, but you have to remember that Ebony's headquarters are in Chicago and Andy performed several times during Prince's Chicago residency. They likely did the interview on the heels of that.

Right. That's why I put that "....." elipsis at the end of my last sentence. lol It was meant to imply: "Suckers will do anything to kiss up to Prince, even at the cost of looking stupid."

Nonetheless, I still think this type of "sure, we'll interview you for him even though you haven't done anything" is somewhat unethical for an historical magazine company of this stature. They've got links to all of those legit articles about established or at least currently popular artists on that webpage, and then this random story.

That's true, however she didn't do anything during those shows in Chicago that actually warrants attention from a journalist of that company. There isn't even a single being constantly replayed all over Chicago radio, or anywhere. If this was just a blog or some other Chicago paper, ok, fine. But Ebony? That's huge, and greatly exceeds her actual musical/artistic worth, especially considering she is an unknown.

I agree, but like you and Genesia pointed out, Ebony is making an investment for a future Prince interview. I just hope they get a return on their investment.

Why do you have to secure a release date for your own album on your own website?!?!?

I wouldn't bet on its release judging by all that's been going on.....

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Hmm I'm more intrigued by the fact that she said Ledisi visited 'us' here at PP. I read into everything but that might be a hint she's living out there perhaps. I know that's his MO with his protegees.

And yea that's crap to blame Ledisi...guess they had to come up a scapegoat. Maybe that was the intention all along to bait fans then push it back. Why is Princeland so damn complicated!

Well Ledisi performed with Prince tonight on Kimmel (she was the background singer with the red dreadlocks). I know that is no indicator of how she feels about being thrown under Andy's bus with the Ebony article, but just thought I'd mention it.

^^^Fair enough. They probably were not in the back arguing over the Ebony article. However, that doesn't make it right. It just makes Andy (and Prince for that matter) look shady. They simply will not own up to what really happened. Like I said earier, it's less about Ledisi and more about principle.
