Yeah I got an email about this just today - I had been checking Andy's fb page & house of blues website and I thought there was nothing going on this Sunday sad It would've been really nice if they had announced this a bit earlier. Can't believe I'm gonna have to miss this T___T

This is a re-post from the other thread in the Concerts" forum:

My friends and I just got our tix. For $35 I'm not holding out for a significant Prince presence at this show. He'll be in the audience...may get up and play guitar on a couple of songs. But, HOB is also available the 24th, 25th and 26th, so we still may get a real Prince aftershow. I'm excited about Andy's show. I'm sure the live music will be good.

Here's an article Andy posted on her Twitter page, from CentricTV's Soul Sessions 'Twitter page. Just basically the same comments like in the Afrobella interview, but nothing about the status of whether the album will actually drop today. shrug

Prince’s Protégé Andy Allo Is A Superconductor Of Energy At Album Listening Party

Published by Danica Daniel on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11:17 am.

Before she embarks on another tour with Prince, Cameroonian-born and raised singer-songwriter Andy Allo held an album listening party on September 18th in Hollywood, California in anticipation of her new album “Superconductor.”

Considered one of the most exciting new artists on the scene, Allo has been a backup singer and guitarist in Prince’s band “The New Power Generation” since 2011. “Touring with Prince & The NPG has been a challenging and rewarding experience and Superconductor is a work of art that encapsulates the journey thus far.”

Now Prince is putting his all his purple power behind his new musical-BFF. Not only did Prince serve as an Executive-Producer on “Superconductor,” he also co-wrote three tracks on the soulful album: “Superconductor,” The Calm” and “Gone” (Allo penned six tracks on her own).

Prince will debut Allo live at his “Welcome 2 Chicago” after-jam at the House of Blues in Chicago on September 24th. “As soon as we felt Andy Allo’s energetic presence on tour with our band,” says Prince, “we knew she’d be leading her own revolution soon!”

“Superconductor,” Allo’s sophomore album, will be released by The New Power Generation via Prince’s NPG Records on September 20th.

That's what some other orgers said on the other thread. The jacket is nice, and has a Beatles (Sgt. Pepper), Jimi, Prince, MJ flavor to it.

^^^I agree. That's a great alternate cover. That was styled well. I guess her album will be for sale in Chicago. I don't know what happened to the release today. It will be interesting to hear the songs live before ever hearing the cd.

I'm actually a little annoyed now that Prince is doing the 3 aftershows. We tried to sell our Andy tix back but because we the show is less than a week away, we can't get a refund. Thus, I am only doing Prince's aftershow on Wednesday. That Princey is a smart one!

Attended this listening party tonight and I have to say that I'm thoroughly disappointed. Note to Prince, it is not cool to disrespect the time of your loyal fans as you did tonight. It's very inexcusable to make people wait 2.5 hours past the time specified for the show to begin for your latest fixation to come out and introduce the songs that she will play from her CD rather than perform them. It was highly insulting. Some people who arrived before 6:00p, had to wait much longer. It was also disgusting that we were made to wait outside in the cold when it was clearly not a soldout show. Andy Allo performed one song; "People Pleaser" with the NPG band and then the band played four more random songs. Although it would have been nice to see Prince perform, the show we received would have been marginally acceptable had it ocurred 2.5 hours earlier. Again, this is totally inexcusable. So many people left upset and thoroughly frustrated by this event.

So sorry it was a bust...I read on twitter that P was definitely in the building and I thought he would at least play on People Pleaser.

How was the CD overall and the performance?

The CD was just okay to me. I liked a few songs, but since I was so tired and frustrated with standing and waiting for 2.5 hours, it most likely played a part in how much I liked the CD.

I must say that this is the most disappointed I have ever been following a Prince-related event. Unlike some, I initially had no hope of seeing Prince at this performance - and that was fine. I knew that I paid $35+$12 in convenience fees for a CD listening party for Andy Allo with special guests the New Power Generation Band. However, when all was said and done I felt extremely unappreciated and taken advantage of. I felt that I wasted more than four hours of my life and ruined what could have been an otherwise enjoyable Sunday night. The only thing that could have salvaged part of the night would have been a performance by Prince.

The problems

Someone needs to inform Prince of how a listening party works, especially one for what is basically a new artist. Yes, this is Ms. Allo's second album but how many people have heard let alone purchased her first? She is a relative unknown outside of the Prince fanbase. Tonight, some of Prince’s hardcore fans showed their support for an artist that he is pushing and he couldn’t have cared less about us.

Seriously, how many new artists wait until 3 and 1/2 hours after the door time on the ticket to appear at their own listening party?

Andy Allo appeared on stage at approximately 10:30 p.m. despite the door time on the tickets being listed as 7 p.m. and the showtime being listed as 8 p.m. I know that concerts sometimes start late, but seriously - she came on 2 and 1/2 hours after the scheduled showtime. I don't remember ever waiting that long for Prince.

Even when he is unbelievably late, Prince usually makes up for it with a killer performance. Ms. Allo showed up, announced that she was going to play her CD and come out to talk to us every now and then. The CD then began playing through the sound system as the audience stood listening in the dark - literally and figuratively. She barely intro'ed the songs, nor said anything about what they were about or who wrote them, etc.

After the CD finished playing in its entirety, the NPG came out and she sang ONE song live with the band - People Pleaser. That was it. She then said, "See you tomorrow night for the full show."

Really? If this was any indication of what the “Purple After Jams” will be like, I am really going to regret the 3-day pass that I bought.

I do not know how much more completely inconsiderate of the audience's time Prince and Andy Allo could have been. It was a Sunday night. Many people had to work in the morning. We paid for a listening party and performance that was supposed to begin at 8 p.m. and this is what we got?

Allo didn't apologize for the wait. Nor did she try to ingratiate herself to the audience with any real sense of gratitude or humility. Instead, she came out as if she were Prince. It is inexcusable for him to make fans wait as if our time means nothing. But Andy Allo? Are you kidding me?

Although there were probably only a few hundred people in attendance, we had to wait outside in the cold until about 8:45 p.m. when they finally started to let us enter the venue. What happened to doors at 7 p.m.?

Next, people stood for another 90 minutes and listened to a DJ play a really nice mix of Prince songs and random R&B and Pop hits from the 1970s-1990's until Andy finally came out. Why couldn't her CD have played during this time? This was supposed to be a “listening party” after all. Again, why the long wait? Was Ms. Allo still asleep at the hotel? Was she having dinner? Did she know that people were waiting for her? The long wait was completely inexcusable to me.

When she finally arrived, she played her CD for about an hour. During which she would just leave the stage for two or three songs at a time, and the CD only has about 9 or 10 tracks. Then around 11:30 the NPG came out and she joined them for People Pleaser. Afterward, the NPG did four random cover songs, which included Luther's "Never Too Much," Stevie's "Superstition" and E.U.'s "Da Butt." And that was it. THAT. WAS. IT.

The [somewhat] positives

Andy Allo's CD isn't bad. There were a few songs that were cool. However, given the length of time it took to hear it and the setting, it didn't go over well with any of the people I talked to. Most of them called it boring and were complaining about the wait. There were even some faint boos when the night was officially over.

The band is tight and sounded good, though the sax and guitar solos were a bit overdone. The bass player was putting it down. I prefer him to Ida.

Andy is a pretty girl with some stage presence, though she is becoming more and more a Prince mime. Her mannerisms mimic his in the way that Sheila did when she first came out as a solo artist under his tutelage. However, it is clear that Andy is not naturally funky.

Andy's fro, dress and boots were fierce, though she needs to toss that Parade-era hat.

The DJ’s choice of Prince songs was great because it was not limited to the standards. He played Hide the Bone, Sexual Suicide, Dirty Mind, Good Life, Freaks on this Side, 319 and other lesser-knowns.

I arrived at 8 p.m. so I only wasted about 4.5 hours of my time.

They didn't have either of these. It was the album cover art with the name/logo triangle circle, and it had Superconductor on the back. She threw some out into the audience. Maybe someone can post a pic.

Wow, 2.5 hours late is really poor form, perhaps she wasn't feeling well? But still I would have expected a lot of talk about the songs on her album and even perhaps a comparison to her first.
Perhaps she just didn't want to talk about Prince and influence on the album etc?

Again so so sorry for the delay....I'm sure she took advice from P who loves keeping this ere of mystery and showing up late.

Did it seem as though the songs were all about her life with P/love for him etc. as on Bria's cd? Was it mostly slow songs or a mix of tunes?

pathetic. That's how you sink a career real fast. Especailly if the product does't deliver. SAd to hear she has been Prince-ized. I liked her first cd a bit. I'll still give it a shot, but someone needs a marketing person to slap some sense into Andy. Even if she gets distribution she needs to sell her record.
