Mayte & Mani

Recently, I watched a rerun of that Hollywood Exes show and there was a scene where Mayte and Mani were having lunch together. Mani was showing Mayte pictures of her cute little baby and talking about motherhood and such. When did they exactly become friends? I remember hearing rumors about how Mani was part of the multiple reasons of the Prince/Mayte split, and how she was prancing around Paisley Park in Mayte's clothes. How in the heck did their friendship come to be? whofarted Just wondering....

Mani , to me , is the mousy fan that got lucky. lol

I'm not sure how they became friends, but I doubt it is a real, strong friendship. My guess is that the scene was staged in order for the show to add drama to Mayte exploring or coming to terms with the loss of her child. I'm not sure why, but I am surprised to learn that the ex-wives and Prince have no contact with each other whatsoever, because Prince always seems like a "short leash" type of guy to me---not that he cares about the, but more so that he cares about what they say about him. I guess not. shrug

Whenever I see Mayte, I'm reminded of some of Prince's fiercest performances and some of his best material, honestly. I loved his Gold Experience era music and outfits. I even love his Emancipation era stuff.

Mani, on the other hand, I find about as interesting as doing tax returns.

I don't know how to "bold type" things on here but I so agree with you about Mani being bo-ring and some fantastic material when he was with Mayte. Loooove Mayte but I do find her a bit boring without Prince, I hate to say. He really knows how dress a woman and how to have her present herself. When she was with him, her hair was on point, her make-up was on point and her clothes! Oh! loved her clothes! now, she's aiight but I do still love her. Mani is "All about Eve" come to life. For real.

When you are typing your reply, highlight the text you wish to make bold and then select the (first) B button, which should appear on a simple edit tool bar above the area in which you type.

highfive Hell yes. nod One of my favorite pics of them is that famous pic of them performing on some type of VH1 awards and they both were wearing red and he has his arm around her leg singing while she poses. That pic is so damn cool! I love love love the Emancipation era...my favorite song is "Somebody's Somebody". P seemed to be so happy during that time...Mayte too.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think when Mani's marriage started to fall apart (and possible miscarriage with Prince) she may have turned to Mayte for support.

Mayte may have forgiven Mani for any indiscretion because Mayte probably remembered how Prince was when she got with him (ie. Nona Gaye, Carmen Electra, Robia LaMorte-Diamond ... he was humping at or around the same time I think)

Mayte must have known and come to terms with Prince being a well, Prince... and decided to form a small support group of the ex-wves club with Mani. lol

That Prince being the control freak that he is may have led these ladies to form a bond since these women really couldn't talk to anyone else. I think no one else would dare talk to these women about Prince, well.... not any one in the Prince camp anyways without the threat of being sued.

Not dogging Prince... but when you have ex-wives banding together and forming friendships... its not a good look on the ex-husband in the middle.

That is insane to me. Why did all of the women that he dated put up with that?!

nod I've said that before. Prince is gonna be Prince and these women learn, each one in her own time, that it aint about her its about HIM! This of course is his emotional and relationship downfall. He can't sacrifice and can probably barely compromise. He is narcissistic and needy and it takes a lot to be with someone like that. Not saying there are women who couldn't make it work with Prince but what would you have to give up in order to be with him till death you both part. shrug

I agree with Imago that they aren't close friends but moreso they chat every now and then when they see each other and the encounter was staged for the show.

At the end of the day they both got what they want. They had love, got exposed to a grand lifestyle and made some profitable and career chaning connections, and they became more than what they were before. Heartbreak aside, Prince was still the best thing to happen to these chicks.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

I agree with this whole heartedly, when I say I have no sympathy for Mayte or any of them (besides the obvious loss of their child) it's because everyone got something out of their relationship with him and he got something out of the relationships as well. Mayte would not be on tv now, Mani would not be married to Eric (nothing great), Carmen, Jill, Vanity, Appollonia, Maneca, The Revolution etc etc if it was not for their connection/association to Prince indirectly/directly.

I am pretty sure he was a gentleman and a ass from the beginning till the end of the relationships. Right or wrong he is who he is and good and bad,I bet that if all of them had a choice to do it all over again, they probably would still go down that same path.

And I definitely don't think that Mani and Mayte are true friends, they are Hollywood friends. I kind of get why they talk, weird, but I do get it.
