The Chaka Khan P album from 2000, yea or nay.

I really like that album. Hate the Larry one. That Prince would let her record a quality song like Center Of Your Heart is stunning. Pop My Clutch is nice. Queen Latifa was a good guest. Pretty nice little disk.

Slight yea.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I like it and played it heavily at the time.

Now, no offense, but this does remind me of when Chaka opened for prince in London/ UK during the night I attended the Jam Of The Year tour.

I was bitterly disappointed with chaka's performance - lots of screeching and hollering and - I swear - I couldn't make out a damn word she was singing. Lots of people were inimpressed - hell most remained seated. To the point Prince made an impromptu appearance to hype her up exclaiming - "on your feet, don'y y'all know who this is?!" However, in comparison, Larry's bass playing was off the chain (and don't ordinarily much like him).

So, yeah - Come 2 My House is a good album (I'd even rate it above NPS) boxed . Larry's album at that time - crap. (Can't even remember what it's called). But live - appreciated Larry far more eek

One of my favorite songs is "The Drama" music

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I played the disc 2 or 3 times when it came out, but since then not anymore. The same goes for the Larry cd. But what I remember is that both albums sounded better produced than NPS.

Fantastic.

Come 2 My House(the track) is so seductive!

The only songs I skip are Hair and Don't Talk 2 Strangers.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Match made in heaven that didn't work. The one she did with Jam & Lewis was tight!

nod

"Hair" is my favorite GCS song, so I can't get into her version.

as much as I love Chaka (and I think she's fan-tas-tic), this was one of her weakest albums imo.

Yay! I love all three albums in the New Power Pack. But it came out in '98, not 2000.

I liked some of the songs but it's not one of my faves. When I listen to Chaka I reach for the old stuff. But I will say it's WAY better than "GCS2000".

I like it. It may not be the best album of her career and contains one or two fillers but all in all, it is a strong and cohesive album. VIBE magazine and rapper DMX called it a masterpiece when it came out in 1998. Some of my friends who recorded it on tape from my CD still ask me to burn that album on CD for them because they remember how much they liked it.

Kinda sad that such a great album is so underrated and was very much under the radar when it came out, yet Chaka just doing guest vocals on songs that came out before and after this album became instant hits and people literally ignored this gem of an album.

The late 90s and early 2000s were a dark phase in Prince´s career.

On a side note....Norah Jones played a concert at Paisley Park in 2002 before she became world famous, yet that show never got and still never gets a mention in any media outlet, as if that concert never happened. Just like this Chaka album that barely gets a mention, like it doesn´t even exist.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Took me a while to get into it. It's quirky. Different than her other albums, but over the years Ive come to appreciate it quite a bit. Yea.

Change it one more time..

I think because this was her "free" CD that it gets buried by media and industry. Nobody wanted to acknowledge Prince's way of marketing and doing business at this point. The industry wanted to get him under control so to speak. Instead he got 2 artists to see things his way for a little while.

It was the best of the 3, and has enough good tracks to make it a solid album. Imagine if it had been from 2000/1 though, rather than that plastic NPS production that mars everything from the late 90s, it might've had that richer TRC sound.

I think P. sold Chaka short in the end, the album and artist both deserved better (in terms of promotion and production, respectively).

in terms of promotion yes but in terms of production i think Prince really did his best to make sound funky again.the production of that album is better then GCS and NPS and more organic in sound. He even played live drums on some songs and drum programming is more creative then the lazy beats of NPS

Instantly forgettable. As is the atrocity that is the GCS album.

I must admit I have never been a fan of Larry, Chaka or all that lot, even before they were in cahoots with Prince, so I had more or less made up my mind that these albums were going to be shit.

more lazy r&b shit served up on a spoon.

I can't be bothered with these atrocities of Prince's anymore.

I have heard way more inventive, clever, better produced tracks from unknown artists.

Prince's money and status have ruined what could have been an illustrious career.

He will be looked back on instead as the guy who did Purple Rain and A BUNCH of sub par stuff.

Kind of like Peter Frampton.

I was loving all of the appearances they did for these 3 CDs. The Today Show was a special treat because they stayed afterwards and continued to play for the crowd. Then I loved the concert at MSG. I took my mom and little brother!
