The Ladder was my favorite collaboration, too. And Pink Cashmere. Just beautiful music. A sad loss. I wish his family my heartfelt condolences. Thank you for your gift of music Mr Fischer.

I'm sorry to read this. Prince owes him a debt of gratitude for all the great music he contributed to.
Yeah, we'll, we'll try to imagine what silence looks like.

Are you guys SURE Clare was on "The Ladder"? I don't think so. PrinceVault states Wendy and Lisa came up with the strings for that song. http://www.princevault.co...The_Ladder

no, his first work was on the parade album, i watched the docu, at the time I would have went to see him as I'm in Seattle, had I known he was here. Very insightful and as a musician I could understand everything he was saying.

RIP Clare-- I love so much of his work with Prince. I have to say my favorite is probably "Goodbye." I don't have the liner notes in front of me now but I think Prince dedicates the song "to the ever beautiful Clare Fischer."

RIP Clare Fischer
btw i always thought that clare fischer was a female...never knew that she was actually a he...there's something about his first name that made me think that it was a woman composing the string parts in the songs of Prince... Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

Wow. I've been out of the loop for a few days. Had no idea this had happened. Incredibly sad to find this out. Rest in Peace, Clare. You brought a wonderful, beautiful side to Prince's music. ![]() Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. RIP. That is sad news. He was a real talent, his strings made a lot of Prince's songs for me, in fact I think every song Prince did using his strings was a gem, his sound was a mark of true quality conveying true feeling and emotion.
God Bless his soul. [Edited 2/4/12 0:14am]

This is sad news!
I just made a playlist dedicated to all of his work JUST 2 DAYS AGO. I've been studying the genius of this man as of recent! So amazing. This is just an incredible LOST! He has blessed Prince's music with his string arrangements, and compositions. He was just amazing! This is such a DEEP lost for the world of music.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and with Prince.
Prince must be hurt to hear he passed. I imagine the emotion of his lost, as the world has lost such a gifted man! This really comes at such a LOST and sadness for me.
Rest in Paradise! I know Prince was devastated when he found out about bobby z's issue. He called the hospital himself and asked to speak to bobby. I can't imangine how he feels about Claire. Even though P doesn't like to show emotion alot, I'm pretty sure he's cried much inside. I'm sick and tired of making plans without making up my mind, teacher teacher can't u see I just need a little time.

A very sad day indeed....I always looked forward to the embellishments and flourishes he would bring to P's work. It definitely added a rich layer to what was already good music. I am MrVictor....

OMG...I was half watching the Grammies on Sunday night, doing bills, and I look up during the In Memoriam segment of the show and caught the name and the word "composer" for a fraction of a second. My first immediate--reactionary--thought: Not MY Clare Fischer. Sadly, a more rational thought gently interceded that yes, the one and ONLY Clare Fischer, who has been a part of the Prince musical family since at least 1985 (when I first saw his name listed in liner notes to the ATWIAD album) has passed away. Wow...what a loss indeed. My love and highest thoughts to the Fischer family and to Prince, who must have really admired and loved this man's work so much to have sought him out time and again to add an almost ethereal depth and beauty to Prince's own compositions.
I especially loved Clare Fischer's string arrangements on "The Dance". And The Family's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U", but his arrangments were an inviting sound on any Prince song (and other artist's work) he touched. Prince's music is already so emotionally potent and expressive; I'm just so impressed that the good doctor could make them even more moving, taking them further into the realms of the sublime. What a wonderful marriage of musical talent between Dr. Fischer and Prince.
Thank U Dr. Fischer for sharing your gift. The Prince family of friends/fans will miss U. Your music has left an indelible imprint on our hearts and minds.
